There is a CL post in New Haven CT looking for a ToM.

What did I do?

#1434 9 years ago

Sure, pile on. I get the blame but never the cash.

How is this for a deal. Whoever finds they have to pay the taxman this year I'll give you a 50% deal if you send the check directly to me.

For everyone's information I am not an accountant. My last name is pronounced "Tax". I had enough crap about that while growing up. But I have been Taxman not only here but going back well over a dozen years on RGP.

Seal that backglass before it gets worse. It is not too bad yet and the backglass on the game is one of the best parts.

Yeah, he means those Sanctum boys didn't wear it down too much
PS: I'd love to sell my ToM sometime soon, I am totally unmotivated to pimp it more than posting here once in a while though

Sorry, got it. And I think I will use it since I am at the Sanctum every Wednesday. One more thing to bust Jim's stones with.

Quoted from dannunz:

I got the sanctum boys on my mind lol

Hey, I've driven a trailer between CT and Hagerstown MD multiple times in the old days to go to Lloyd's Coin-op Warehouse.

Quoted from acedanger:

Just throwing out there. Looking to see if anyone might be interested in trading a ac-dc pro for 2 games a rfm and dw. Both are in great shape.

This is actually tempting. Too bad I have a bad time making up my mind to let go of things.

#3093 8 years ago
Quoted from msj2222:

I haven't seen his RFM but his DW is very nice and has a color DMD. As long as RFM is in decent cond it could be a great deal for someone IMHO. If I had a AC/DC pro and didn't have a RFM already... I would jump on this myself

We are going to talk probably later today if I wake up fully. I'm not big on letting go of games but these are both on my "would be nice" list.

I did not know his DW had a ColorDMD. This is good since my AC/DC pro has one also. I'm not a big Mod guy but I got this from Eric Bundy who installed the Bell Mod (a must) the train, mirror blades and some color changers. I'm sure he reads this thread and will probably confirm it is a very nice version of the game.

#3130 8 years ago
Quoted from acedanger:

You're smoking coke lol

Not cool. I would not burn bridges with people in the area.

#3135 8 years ago
Quoted from Irishbastard:

With todays stupid prices, I'd say Rfm is close to or at $3k, Dw is $2.2-$2.5...So your saying an Ac/Dc Pro is around $5k??? Not that long ago you had to try hard to get close to $4k for a modded out example... (I should have bought Tom's Ac/Dc instead of FGY... Even though I'd be tired of it by now, it would have lasted much longer)
Fyi, the popular way is to snort coke and smoke its cousin crack

Still see some good condition DW going for $2K. RFM is getting more than it should these days I agree, but an RFM with issues, something about a decal and reboot? $2K, maybe a little more. And AC/DC Pro is worth around $4K.

Plus you are looking to have a person let go of a newer game with a great reputation and hope they want your exact two games with "good" reputations and more years on them. The exact dollar amount is for people whose first thought is selling.

I don't think 1 for 1 is an unreasonably out of the ball park idea. I was thinking about it also but decided not to continue. Mine has about $300 in mods (Bell, Train, Mirror blades, color changers) and I would have taken the ColorDMD out before doing a 1 for 1.

I'm just saying that if a deal does not continue that is fine. No harm not foul. Making a disparaging remarks to a local person in a hobby like this is not called for and not wise.

Edit: Looks like a reply got in while I was typing.

#3142 8 years ago

I didn't say I was surprised. But he did not say that in the first post. And the second post he worded as if he was going to put in money [that did not seem right]. He has since gone back and cleared the second post. Hmmm.

All I said is it did not seem totally unreasonable.

What's the big deal?

Edit: posts popping in between again. Don't read any "tone" into my posts.

Edit 2: By the way, Money was never mentioned to me. I heard it second hand.

#3143 8 years ago
Quoted from Capinball:

... Having met Taxman, I was shocked to even read his post that he was considering trading. ...

I have issues

#3166 8 years ago
Quoted from shacklersrevenge:

I don't really want to chime in, but F it...

You are the voice of reason. I thought I had spelled it out but it was not taken well. I think some times people read things as aggressive and my post was anything but. I was simply spelling out the value to me. So I said simply, not a deal for me.

Quoted from shacklersrevenge:

That's like jerking off in your neighbors pool and asking them to record it.

OK, if this is such a bad thing why did they take the pool down but leave the tripod setup. It is the mixed signals that make me not know what to do in their yard with the holidays around the corner.

Seriously. All I was saying it was a confusing deal, I pass. And actually giving a friendly word of advice about jumping to comments like "are you smoking coke" without knowing the people you are dealing with or [as you stated] the facts of value of game to some people.

#3175 8 years ago

Sorry for the drama NE people, nothing to see here.

Quoted from acedanger:

I was saying that to Rave. Not you Taxman..

I know, its cool. I was just trying to let you know that it was a harsh reply to a regular. And trying to let you know from your post [and yes from prices we get] is was not out of line for him to think is was a 1 for 1. I did too.

I backed away when I saw action figures mounted on Bally/Williams games and know the owner would want me to pay for something I want removed. This is my issue and I take heat for it on this website. Many people agree with me, many laugh at me, but I am an old timer set in my ways.

Quoted from acedanger:

I only say that because ACDC pro with bell mod is roughly worth 4,000 4,200 TOPS!

I agree, 100%. That is the exact range I put it at also. But then that is close to where I put a DW + RFM also, a couple of hundred more yes. But as the person posting the trade it looked like you were willing to give a better deal as an easy way out of trying to sell two games to raise the money/room for what you really wanted.

Where do we get out deals? Not here often. But then there is obviously a lot of competition for these games.

Quoted from acedanger:

I've seen RFM w/ nice playing fields shopped like mine with Video amp go upwards of 3,500 So I can't see how 27-2800 is not a fair offer.

I use to pass on RFM at $1,200 all day and have a hard time even thinking of them over $2K. $3,500? Most of my collection was under that. Look at my list, maybe 5 of them were over $3,500. But I have been at this a long time. These are "my" mental prices. Since I am not looking for one I'm not even going to entertain paying top dollar.

Sorry, but I don't look at the Pinside marketplace. Those prices are not my reality. Ebay, Pinside, Mr Pin. all fun to read, but not where my collection came form.

Quoted from acedanger:

That's fine but there was no reason to post about it.

The "are you smoking coke" was the first [and we hope last] kick off of this drama incident. I kind of felt after that post his reply was expected.

Anyway, to sum it up. Yes, there are great deals to be had. Not always, but great once and a while and good often enough. And as a tight nit local group when we decide to pass on a deals we have short lists of people to call when we pass on them. Just how it goes. One of the reasons I was telling you to chill with the "coke" comments. Stay in the hobby a couple of decades and you will be a different person too and friends are good to have.

Me, I personally have nothing on my "Must own" list for many years. I am in the "Would be nice at the right price" years of my life and pick things up on impulse. Heck, I own great pins for years I have never even setup because it was a good price. So please understand sometimes people are just coming from two different places and not meaning to disparage the other person.

So, GLWYS. All good. I passed nicely and was just trying to nicely warn you that attacks against a deal "that never happened" are not worth it.

The End

I thought someone was looking for a DE Simpsons recently. Man, Gwaxt has a consistent supply of deals. Time to send some texts around to see who that was.

We all thought it was funny how much time Rob spent on the ST considering he has one at home.

#3452 8 years ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

That's funny...since an 8 year old girl could beat that score. I'll blindfold you first and you'll still beat it. My FH if f**king hard since I did the restoration. What is it with that? Same with the HEP IJ I got...really hard since I got it back.

Where do I start?

First - You are chronologically older than 8, it is just you act like an 8 year old girl.

Second - Not working right does not mean hard. if "you" did the restoration it probably has something wrong. Maybe the "floppy flipper" syndrome.

Third - Your HEP IJ was a doctor abbreviation for picking up Hepatitis from a needle InJection that made you delusional and think you can play good pinball.

(Really? You have a HEP IJ? Dude, Friend, How are you and when can I see it?)

Other than that, my friends John and Jim are much better players than I am. Every once and a while they take a score. I am not insulted and I don't grind the game to get it back. I know they are good and am not insulted in the least but happy the love to play them. And I am serious. (although I pick on them and do the battery threat)

I can think of 7 games off the top of my head that I have not setup since I bought them. 4 are major projects 1 so far gone will probably never be restored. No room to set them up and work on them so they go to storage.

#3717 8 years ago

Single is easy, double is hard, triple is so special as you have to ignore balls draining. Then after you get it trying to take advantage of more.

WH20 is one of my top 5 pinball machines of all time. You can play to get to Wet Willies, go for MB Jackpots, big foot hot foot is great and anything with the 5x playfield multipliers makes you scramble.

If you got so good at it so quick I envy your skills. Even Bowen missed the vacation jackpot in his PAPA video tutorial. LOTR, Creech and WH20 will be the last to ever leave my collection.

I really like Jacks Open. It burns me with those openings in the lane wires when I go to trap the ball and forces me to pay attention and play differently than I'm use to.

#3826 8 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Sinbad / Eye of the Tiger is the same way. And precision shots are necessary, making it even more challenging.

Exactly. Shooting on the move without being able to slow the ball. When NEPL League started in Sandy Hook they had one. Great to pick as an equalizing game. Also a Tilt ends the game not the ball.

#5423 7 years ago

People who know me know I never sell. When I used to I would only sell local cash and carry anyway.

But as an old timer who does not have PayPal or ever do much in the way of e-commerce - How do you pay fees?

#5438 7 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Credit or debit cards can be used. If you don't have either of those...I'm not sure. Robin may have to answer that one.

This came up for discussion at one point in the past geared towards doing a donation for other Pinsiders. Either as a thank you or because of this situation. This way I could give a friend $ who has PayPal and have him do it for me. I thought Robin's reply was they were working on it so I thought PayPal was still the way you had to go.

I probably should read more. But harassing Beelzeboob takes up a lot of the little free time I have. But it is worth it.

Do you have some statistics to back up your claim that everyone here checks CL just as religiously as this thread? And how about some statistics to back your claim that you will reach about 90 percent of the population that reads the thread? Love it when someone else speaks for 'everyone' before they are elected to do so.

When you see his CL posts they are usually on the CT New Haven and Harford areas. I see them all the time. I'd say 90 for his area of seeing them is a pretty good guestament.

The Sanctum makes them available to many people. This is the absolute best thing to be available to new buyers. Trying games and asking questions is awesome.

I don't expect this to last long enough to even think about it

Hi. I am looking to bring a pin into the house for the holidays. I have a bankroll of $3000/$5000 cash . The pin must be clean shopped and work 100% not looking to do any work just want my family and friends to have some fun. The pin must be delivered I am located in North Providence RI (easy delivery, no steps through the back door) Some titles I am interested in Shadow, Indy 500, Congo ,NGG, TAF but I will listen to all offers even if it goes a little above $5000 hit me with it.
Happy Holidays, Henry

You should be able to find all of those titles except TAF in very good condition in that price range. But, they are 20+ year old games so working 100% could end at any time and eventually will. There is no guarantee with newer games either, but the older the game . . .

I have been doing this for decades. I have never shipped a game and have never bought a game without seeing it and paying cash. It removes a lot of questions about payment and condition.

While I did not down vote I did wonder why someone would in Texas would post in a thread clearly in a section called "Regional For Sale Threads". There is a market place and there are general threads. It is not a huge deal, but it is using the spirit of the section the wrong way.

Don't make me feel guilty. You know I love you.

Got you

The reason Whridlsoncestood threw my name out there is he knows I just pulled mine out of The Sanctum and replaced it with a BSD. It is a players Popeye and I kept having issues getting the center Bluto ball lock scoop dialed-in. So I got mad at it and threw it into storage. I enjoyed playing it.
Wanted to purchase Jurassic Park from James but we decided we needed to save our money for vacation at the cape.

I saw the other Diner but Brian was much nicer from playfield to clear cup. Also with Brian I can make arrangements to have it dropped off at The Sanctum where I was going to put it anyway.

I'm also glad he sold the Transporter. They don't come up often and that one looked and played real nice. He brought a lot of great games that got thousands of plays this weekend.

Vacations? Overrated. Afterwards all you have are memories. When you buy a pinball machine the week afterwards, you still have a pinball machine.

As a quick introduction, my wife and I moved from our Chicago pinball mecca to Western Mass and have hit a bit of a pinball drought. I've been able to convince her to get a few pins for our house.
Mainly my concern now is getting a player's condition player's pin to keep my skills up. Pretty open to titles but would prefer to keep it on the cheaper side to get max pin (pins?) for the buck.
Anyone have/know of anything they think would fit the bill? I've already contact BeaglePuss for his JD (even though he mentioned it may be taken). His JD is a really good example of what I am looking for.
-DML

You're in a pretty good area. I don't think your drought will last long.

#8456 6 years ago
Quoted from tp:

Please reread ladies and gentlemen. As stated above these are the pins......not.....up for consideration.

So, you list the games "not" for sale and want people to go back and forth to your listed collection to "figure out" what "might" be for sale? Sounds like someone to "NOT" deal with.

Sorry, you might actually be a great guy to deal with, but I have a feeling you did your second post out of frustration from replies from people who did "not" understand a convoluted "maybe" for sale ad. Convoluted since you say "up for consideration".

Maybe you want to take the normal route and list what is for sale rather than what is "not" for sale. And please figure out what "is" for sale rather than what "might" be for sale.

Seriously. You might be one of "those" people who are "not" easy to deal with.

Oh, GLWY?S

#8459 6 years ago
Quoted from Pinballmike217:

Wow, Pennsylvania and Georgia posts in a New England thread, no wonder I only check here every few months

This is the North East sale. It started going too far down so a New England FS thread was created also to keep it in the family.

Quoted from bluespin:

In the sellers defense his original post said all of the games in my collection except these three are for sale. In hindsight he could have listed the titles that are for sale

Maybe I am being harsh (bad mood) but I was looking at his explanation post to his own post. And that is something I personally do not deal with well. When I hear something is For Sale it normally means a title and a price. Up for consideration means nothing.

#8463 6 years ago

Any reply would get me banned from a "local" thread. Glad you are so selective.

Quoted from ForceFlow:

Normally, the idea is when you try to sell something, make it as easy or enticing as possible for a potential buyer to buy that item. If you make them do some legwork (ie, extra clicks), they are more likely to go after something else (ie, lowest hanging fruit) instead.

Agreed, but when some buyers are not good enough . . .

Looks like my BSD at The Sanctum might be going on the chopping block. I was not there for the 24 hour battle this weekend, but I was told it had a couple of quirky issues or ball hangs. I need to talk to them more when they open next Monday. Hopefully nothing that would be a big deal in a home, but in a tournament environment that is a royal PITA for the tournament directors to deal with. Even if it got 100 plays in one day it only takes one call to ruin a round.

I bought it and put it in storage for years without ever setting up until it went there so I am not intimately familiar with every square inch and I have no room to bring it home again. I was thinking $2,500 and would like some input from anyone who has played it, please feel free to give me the good and bad of what you have seen. I know, asking for negative opinions opens the door, but I want to be honest. So I want a local buyer to play the game while it is still there is do a cash and carry. Before selling I will be asking them what issues it has and hoping to rectify anything.

#9161 6 years ago
Quoted from Chuckwebster:

I played it a few times over the weekend and noticed a couple glitches. the biggest thing I noticed was the auto plunger was inconsistent. I wouldn't think it would be a major issue to fix. $2500 is a fair price and if i liked the title more i'd be all over it. Of course at 2k I do love the title and would pick it up after NEPL finals next week

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully that is a switch issue.

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Ah, crap...am I actually tempted to buy a machine from you? I don't want to give you any of my money. All you give me is an ulcer.

Opps, price just went up.

#9163 6 years ago

Its more likely a loose coil stop or worn sleeve. Its Definitely not a switch error.

Cool, I appreciate the feedback. I'm sure Jim will give me an update and pick on me telling me what a headache my game was (all in fun). Congrats on everyone completing the grueling tournament. I know I would not last. Doing 4 hours the night before was enough for my weekend.

It started with twitter, since you can send a message directed to someone that is actually readable by anyone. Then the term kind of caught on with other platforms and replaced "private message", since I guess nothing on the internet is really private any more
