the climber/flag relay circuit does not go thru the "replay unit open at 18th position" switch. The special via wire 90 and the 25 cent relay circuit does.

in your second pic in post 9, the 18th position switch is open ... basically, you've hit the max number of credits. If the credit wheel isn't showing 18, then most likely the peg is moved.

is there a flat spot/missing tooth on the ratchet so the unit can't physically step more than 18 times from reset? If not, it's a little puzzling as winning more credits via the flag relay would mangle the open at 18th switch.

If there is a flat spot, does the open at 18 switch only open when the flat spot is reached?

to clarify post #13, in the attached picture below the red arrow is pointing to the "open at 18" switch. If that switch is open, the game will not add credits for specials.

the unit has two solenoids. The reset solenoid is not in the picture. If you push the plunger into the coil and let go, the replay count should decrement. Push in and let go the step-up plunger (green arrow) and the replay count should increase unless it's already at 18 - probably. If the replay count is not 18, the open at 18 switch should be closed.

suggest you push in the reset plunger repeatedly until the peg with the brown plastic sleeve is rotated around and opens the other switch, then step up the unit a few times.

is your game wired for free play somehow?

got a picture of the entire unit showing both solenoids, then entire ratchet/gear and switches?
