Installed ColorDMD, turned on, smelled a slight burning smell, no sound from backbox speakers. Cabinet speaker is working. Speaker wires are fine, not pinched under display. Checked solder points. Did factory reset. Fuses on soundboard ok. Reseated the connectors on soundboard. Would greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks, Art

Hi Art,

The sound board and ColorDMD don't share any common power supplies except the 5V logic. Is it possible you disconnected something from the sound board and plugged it back in to the wrong header?

Hi Randy, thanks for the quick response. I did not. The instructions are pretty straightforward. Didn't have any doubts or difficulties. Going to the pharmacy to get a 9 volt battery and will test the speakers.

Maybe put the original DMD back in and see if sound comes back? Maybe test +5V on the power driver board? If your +5V is low, maybe the colorDMD pulling on it is enough to freak out the sound board?

Great idea. Just did that and the problem persists. The speakers seem to test fine with a battery.

Could sharing the same ground point possibilitate this?

It's not a ground point issue. If the sound works on the cabinet speaker then it is not power related (or color DMD related). The audio board has two amplifiers. If even one speaker works then the board is being powered. Most likely your backbox tda2030 amp died. It's a $15 5 prong replacement. You should verify the speaker wires and traces to the speaker output for backbox first.

Thanks. It helps a lot. I'm still learning about pins and have only done basic soldering so far. This game is actually not that bad sans the callouts.
