Williams, 1994Installed ColorDMD, turned on, smelled a slight burning smell, no sound from backbox speakers. Cabinet speaker is working. Speaker wires are fine, not pinched under display. Checked solder points. Did factory reset. Fuses on soundboard ok. Reseated the connectors on soundboard. Would greatly appreciate any insight. Thanks, Art
Maybe put the original DMD back in and see if sound comes back? Maybe test +5V on the power driver board? If your +5V is low, maybe the colorDMD pulling on it is enough to freak out the sound board?
It's not a ground point issue. If the sound works on the cabinet speaker then it is not power related (or color DMD related). The audio board has two amplifiers. If even one speaker works then the board is being powered. Most likely your backbox tda2030 amp died. It's a $15 5 prong replacement. You should verify the speaker wires and traces to the speaker output for backbox first.
