Looking at the "Multiball Trap" used in Cosmic Cart Racing gave me a new idea:

Why not eliminate mechanical ball pushers like slingshots and pop bumpers and replace them with "rail gun" boosters?

Similar to the Star wars premium accelerator method?

Lose the plunger too, user must sequentially-actuate magnets to launch the ball. Getting to the top exit would be the skill shot.

Has this been done? You could do some cool parabola troughs where you are forced to get the ball out with magnet sequences.

If this idea gets used please forward all royalties to robin !

The "Accelerator" in Stern Star Wars actually uses "around ball" coils. This seems like a great way to really get some push going.

At $725 (if you can get it) seems very pricey.

I think you can do a lot with below-playfield magnets.

Quoted from gregh:

Ghostbusters prem/le has the magnetic slings. Is that the kind of idea you're thinking of?

I'll have to look at that machine more closely. There is one in Glenwood Spgs.

I never noticed magnets on that machine, but then I brick a lot

Quoted from CadillacMusic:

What about the units used in a Getaway or Nascar? Would those work but be cheaper?

Cost really isn't the issue for a one-off. I can wind my own coils.

The thing I'm wondering about is whether this is a viable idea for a fun game. Seems like the plunger button could be [part of] the human interface to turning on playfield magnets. Or maybe something like the Stern action button.

Quoted from gregh:

If it's the prem/le version, instead of the mechanical kickbacks, the magnets throw around the ball at the slings. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of it.

Don't think OPS usually put Premium/LE models on route so that explains why I haven't seen that
