Have you replaced any bulbs in a pin yourself? Or are you just talking from looking at the pictures these bunch have posted? I say that cause these photos exaggerate the colors in a big way. The games don't look like that in ambient lighting. well, let me clarify, games with correctly used colored GIs.

Are you serious, it's Dirty Harry, how would you portray him? As Adam with a fig leaf in Eden? DH's pf and cab art are pretty great for the theme (gameplay sucks but the art is cool). Here's the answer:
The original artist painted the translight for Twilight Zone so that it looked cool and attracted customers. It was an homage to an awesome TV show.
He could have drawn it with big random purple and red and green and blue blobs of color all over it, but he didn't.
He didn't because it would make NO SENSE AT ALL.
Why would he draw Rod Serling with a glowing orange face and random blobs of color all over the picture?
It would simply make no sense.
So when you go and put LEDs in the translight so there are random red, green, blue and purple blobs of color all over it, it's stupid and it looks like ass.
It simply looks like a random mess of color applied to the picture for no reason.
WHY WOULD YOU EXPECT PRAISE FOR THAT?
The worst part is that the colored lights wash out the original game colors, so in addition to having totally random color blobs, you can't even see the original artwork.
This clown puke phenomenon truly looks like the work of little kids.
If I came to your house and spray painted day-glo paint blobs all over your wall art, would you say "WOW, WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT! THANKS!"
As far as the bright lights go, i'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the optimal lighting level does not involve your eyes hurting and getting a head ache. Call me nutty, but that's my take on it. I'm wacky that way I tells ya.
On a side note -
Next time you have a hamburger, just put a couple of teaspoons of catsup on it. Don't get a 55 gallon drum of catsup and put it on your roof and make a giant catsup bong out of it that forces catsup into your stomach and lungs at 100 psi.
Even though MORE COLOR AND MORE BRIGHTNESS IS ALWAYS ALWAYS BETTER in pinball, that learned and subtle philosophy doesn't apply to catsup.
Hmmm..I wonder if GFYS is a sufficient answer.

That's what I've been saying, yes the overly saturated colors are bad, but a little color here are and there is A-ok, and it actually improves the look of the game.

Light is science. Packets of photons IIRC from my freshman yr physics classes. Lighting a pin is not. Again, I agree some of these silly looking games are bad. I'm just in the camp that is not a purist. I like some color in the games, like BSD, for ex: the purplish UV that lights up the graveyard and village..it makes it look more eerie than milk white. People can clearly judge the MM posted here looked better before. Also that Shadow is a tragedy...the game is called "The Shadow" for crissakes not "The Light". Oh well..not my problem.

There is no way that's an actual untouched photo. The photo has been saturated and darkened. Actually quite a few of the pics in this thread have been manipulated to look even sillier. That F-14 translite is another one. Are they bad, heck yeah but they are not super saturated like the photos claim they are.

If you truly want to brighten up a game using leds you should go with comet warm or sunlight white or if you want cooler then go with natural white. Brighten up all my WPC games this way has been on my to do list for years and just only a matter of me making the time and doing it. Here is a picture of my Congo which I have been using incandescent bulbs in the GI ever since I bought it in 2011. I sorta "puked" on my game a bit by adding those natural white leds in the pops but that was only because I had the ramps and wireforms removed to send out for replating back in 2014.
It isn't as dark as it looks in the pic and you can totally see fine in person otherwise I wouldn't have waited 6 years to do this. When I showed this pic to my friend he said cool you put pinstadium lights on your game too? I'm like "eff" no and don't think I ever will because I feel it is over the top and takes a little bit away from the game's charm.
Here is what I did to my Congo for just under $35.
Spot Light Accent Assembly (2 x $3.50) + OPTIX MAXIMUS in warm white (2 x $2.29)
- one spot light above the right sling shot aimed towards the middle and second one just below the upper left flipper aimed towards the volcano
2 SMD 6.3V AC/DC SUPREME BRIGHTNESS 5050 SUPER FLEX NON-GHOSTING (2 x $1.59)
- under each slingshot I aim one flex head up to illuminate the plastic and the other sideways aimed towards the middle area between the slings
3 SMD 6.3V LIGHTED STRIPS (1 x $2.95)
- under the apron by the ball trough/drain area just below the flippers
TWIN 2835 SMD 6.3V AC/DC INTENSE BRIGHTNESS in warm white (25 pack for $12.25 black friday special)
- used these all of GI in the game except for the inlane guides
OPTIX MAXIMUS in warm white (2 x $2.29)
- used this under inlane guides because of nicely they throw the light
I played a few games to see if there is any noticeable flickering or anything that would otherwise affect game play and so far so good. Otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to put back incandescent bulbs or spring for another GI OCD board from herg like I did for my TOM.
That’s the only one of your games that actually looks good with that formula. But hey it’s your game so more POWER to you.
