Possibly. I tend to look at someone's reputation when trying to sell or sell here. It lets me know if that person "plays well with others" or if they are flakey.

Well I would never judge by those things. Has nothing to do with how a person is in real life or an accurate judgement of how they would handle deal.

You're right. It has nothing to do with how someone interacts with people when they think they are anonymous. Do what you do and carry on.

Lol, maybe to you, but most people arent havent a problem seeing things.

Yeah right. That's why games had to be pulled from tournaments and leagues because NOBODY could see with the shit ass lighting job someone did. And I mean nobody. It's been proven many times. Unless you have some kind of super human vision, that can see out of the boundaries of the spectrum, you are either ignorant, or a liar.

Ahhh, the good old, your trolling if you dont agree with others opinion comment.. .beautiful!

If you're in a thread clearly marked "no rainbow puke club" and you're telling us we're idiots to dislike color gi...that's trolling. This thread is for people who at least agree on one thing: color gi destroys playfield and backglass art, and reduces visibility by 200% If you don't like that, go ahead and start a club for people who do like rainbow puke, but leave us alone. You're littering this thread with your posts.

if it was just opinion that would be one thing. Like people who change the armor on the cabinets, or T molding on arcade trim. that's opinions.

But this isn't opinion based. When you are taking a physical aspect of something that has a specific purpose to work a certain way and accomplish a task, that is functional. functional lighting is a science. if you do it wrong, it makes things difficult for the user. You ever have a DVD player or cable box with LED display on it? Some put blue or purple LED displays in those units. The lighting was so hard to focus you could never read the clock. Had horrible bursting and bleed over, due to where that color landed on the physical spectrum. Instantly deeming that piece of electronics " a total piece of shit". because it couldn't function for it's intended purpose due to LED lighting. Same holds true for pinball. Lighting has just as important of function as the flippers do. If you can't see, it's just as fun as a game that the flippers do not work on. both are unplayable.

After looking at a lot of these eyesores I am thankful for one thing... I've never actually seen a pinball lit up like that in person.

Think most folks take that one picture of their accomplishment, try and play one game and realize the error of their ways, thus reverse their stance. Hence none of these in the wild?

even when you do "see" one. You really can't "see" anything anyway, so you don't have to worry about playing one, because they are unplayable. Unless its' on display at walmart and the overhead lights can burn ants with a magnifying glass.

I actually saw a really badly puked Spiderman on location. Literally made me cry, it hurt to look at it. It's the worst I've ever seen. It was a new game at the location at the time. One week later it was gone because people couldn't see anything. I didn't post it on this thread because I didn't want everyone's eyes to shrivel up. You're welcome. I swear, looking at those things in person decreases your eyesight. You're lucky.

we had a TMNT all in green over in madison area. It was such a shitshow and a dark bowling alley. We had to hold our phones above it to be able to see the playfield enough to play it. It was a 2 person project. One to hold the phone with flashlight on over the game, while the other one played. Pathetic. Especially on route. you want people to pay money for this shit, make sure they can actually play it.

Color GI? METLE rocks. Redshift’s kit for the pro is fun.

    Interactive GI is great.

I recently bought an EATPM with a bunch of color GI. First thing I did was change that junk out at the slingshots and inlanes because I couldn't see worth a damn without the overhead lights on. That one change alone enabled me to play the pin in the dark. Still more work to do.

interactive GI isn't so bad, because it only changes for modes and stuff. Then goes back to white. Games that change the color on purpose during certain events to make it more difficult to see, is ok, because it's done on purpose. For effects and to hinder your vision. but most of the time, the GI's are white during these events. The problem is the games where it's a shitshow from the moment you power on, till you turn it off (which is usually very shortly after turning it on).

Also, when it's interactive, the colors actually make sense, it's not just color splattered randomly everywhere.

So I picked up a Taxi that was in rough shape, playfield beat to hell up top, missing topper AND it had been puked on with blue led for most of the GI. It has been saved and depuked. Wonder how much value doing just this has added. I still need to do the cabinet as it’s in pretty poor shape but that is later. Before and after.

Yes it is a hardtop, I do like that it is so difficult to differentiate between if It’s a hardtop or a repro playfield, really gives compliments to outside edge on their work! I did misalign it slightly but ya know once is down it’s down. Not noticeable with the lights on though.

Am I alone in thinking LEDs (even white) kind of look like shit in a backbox? They just don't throw light the same way as an incandescent.

    #4789 3 years ago
    Quoted from Scrimmbo:

Am I alone in thinking LEDs (even white) kind of look like shit in a backbox? They just don't throw light the same way as an incandescent.

I'm with you. Then again, I prefer incandescent everywhere over LED. I don't leave my games on long enough for the incandescents to get too hot or to put too much of a strain on the PS boards. The only LEDs I put in are in places that I never want to change a bulb again, like under a plastic under a ramp.

The honest truth as well is that as long as you replace your incandescents before they start to get burnt or silver, the heat from them (even from 44s) is really not too bad (and I am a LED guy FWIW). Once they get burnt tho, the heat from the lamps can be very hot, and this is def. what melts plastics, and causes burns on the BB and other issues.

That said, it is just a matter of time as LED tech continues to improve, and the temperature range and control gets better and better every couple of years. Currently there are many bulb cover types that disperse the light in different ways. This too gets better and better.. I'm wondering when they will have edison type LEDs that match a 44/47... surely that would be the end of the old?

I tell them the same thing I tell everyone on pinside and facebook. OMG! how the hell do you see anything on there? Looks terrible! You really should change those over to White LED's. and then go into an extensive sales pitch about comets 2smd daylights and how they are the next best thing since sliced bread. Incandescents are great too. But the LED's throw more light. Well 2smd's do. The old school LED's used to look like shit. Even in white.
