And they make good use of the colors when they change. It's nor Static purple, or red, or deep blue or paint splotch rainbow pattern.
Legit question: Is it possible some people see *better* with a purp’d out playfield? Like some backwards version of color blindness?

no, purple is the far end of the spectrum. The closer you get to the ends of the spectrum the harder it is for the human eye to see. So extreme reds and purples are the most difficult.
