Quoted from snowy_owl:Machines like that should be considered broken.
And of course they don’t understand why you want to knock $150+ off so you can replace all the LEDs to reverse the carnage.
“What do you mean? I just put a bunch of LEDs in this thing!”
Quoted from snowy_owl:Machines like that should be considered broken.
they are. Had an F14 look like that. And it was unplayable.
that has to be a factory animation, I don't think you can change the LED's on the newer games to just one color

It looks to me like a green led strip in the back and one under the apron. Both absolutely horrible to look at.

yes it could be. WTF would anyone do that. The playfield artwork is great, and now it looks like a steaming pile of shit.

Blue led strips in WH20 mountains from prior owner transformed them into eye piercing blueberries.

The aftermarket needs to find a way to undo that crap on new games to make them palatable or even playable.
On second thought, since the shoe fits, they might as well wear it.

could Colored LED's cause a company to go bankrupt? Maybe not....but then again. Maybe so.

I highly doubt that, just by looking at some recent kit sales on just one source. That doesn't even include the myriad mods, individual color packs, LED strip lighting etc...

I need to get into this business! My plan, buy a shit ton of random colored LEDs and throw them all into a big ass sack. Then put my kits together by grabbing random handfuls of LEDs and throwing them into a bag. Write up some bullshit about how this makes the game "pop" and look good and that you'll be the envy of all your friends...then BAM. Profit!

those are the guys that really need to be punched in the head. They spread this shit around by people who don't know any better.

Yup. Just like the flippers who buy low, do nothing to the game, then immediately sell higher, they don't care about the hobby...just making money.

The red cards should have red LEDs under the inserts and black cards should have blue or even the always reliable purple under them. Missed opportunities.

808222019_1323867.gifBeen getting a good laugh out of this thread. The guys I work for have been converting all of their older pins to leds, and while some of them don't look half bad, the others have been reaaaal ugly. My bosses think they look awesome though, so we keep banging them out, if any of them were mine they'd be going back to regular bulbs, or at least all white leds.
PS: Any EM pin with an LED kit looks like shit!!!

it's not about LED's at all. LEDs are great. But the only LED that should be used in GI sockets to illuminate any playfield is either Warm white (for warm color pallet games, reds, yellows and oranges), or Cool white to accent cool color pallets (blues, greens, purples).
2SMB sunlights from Comet are fantastic. Great light distribution, natural look. I buy them by the 100's and use them in almost every game. EM's, early SS, dmd's.
I think people throw the color leds to drown out a mediocre shop job or dog of a pin. The extra light is sort of like throwing a throw blanket over a brain splattered back seat so no one notices initially. Smoke and mirrors.
I don't think there's that much thought put into it. They watch some TNT YouTube videos and go to town. They just think it's cool.

Do you only use the frosted in GI or do you use clear? I found them on comet website but was curious, I always thought you use frosted in GI since some of them you can see.

Personally, I use frosted bulbs for GI in my games. I prefer the softer wider angle glow that they cast verses harsher more localized light. I do also use for inserts, but there I use 4 SMD non-domed Comets (often color match, but not always - depends on the insert color).

I've never found any use for an LED that isn;t frosted.
