No colors on GI period. Something else you would have to replace if you bought one of those piles.

    #3953 4 years ago

If you think the GI is hacked on this machine, you haven't seen the driver board yet. Haha! As bright as it is, the whole back of the playfield GI is out.

I can fix it! I've got the ultimate set of tools...

Craigslist fail Buckaroo. If this belongs to anyone here I’m sorry but this is ridiculous. Especially since you are asking $3495 for it. I had some other choice words but I kept them to myself.

I don’t know what they were going for. Second question is why is there two balls on the PF in play? It’s not a multi-ball game.

You can play up to five balls at a time, if you are so inclined.

Except most multiplayers you can't. Only one ball in most.

That would then beg the question why totally clown puke the thing out in the first place?

    Upchuckaroo.

    #3968 4 years ago

In all fairness, that was my reaction the first time I put white LED flashers in one of my games. Lesson learned though, keep the flashers as incandescents.

    #3969 4 years ago

    I'll be nice.

Lesson learned is remove all leds and don't waste any more money on any of that junk, and see happily ever after.

I put LEDs in the first pinball machine I bought a couple of years ago. While I thought I did it tastefully, I regretted what a waste of money it was. I since sold that machine and the five machines I have now don't have any LEDs.

    #3972 4 years ago

Your eyes are probably thanking you for that.

    #3973 4 years ago

Incandecents create unecesary heat and current for this day and age, and it isn't like it's not reversible if a later owner wants to cook their game bits. Non retina burning warm white LED is the only Practical way to go for me.

Some of the machines I have bought have had Horror clown vomit jobs. Worst ever was an Addams that looked like an Actual Rainbow! . Pulled it down for a clean and fixed the lights and things. Wish I'd taken some pics now! Lol

Is that because the ozone layer is deteriorating and the ice caps are melting? Yeah, in the old days we isn't have to worry about that.

Nah, I was purely considering the longevity of the machine... current, heat...

But I guess some might look at it ethically lol

Honestly I probably rather the look of bulbs, but these days there are some LEDs that come very close to reproducing their "look"... I just can't justify installing old style bulbs any more.

Considering I have several games from the 1950s to the 1990s that are still running strong with incandescents, I am surely doing my part for global warming.

I hear ya, but mine are all '80 or later and things were getting cheaper (nastier) and pushed closer to their engineering limits. A fair call, they don't build em like the used to.

    #3978 4 years ago

I've got some super nice games from the 80s and up that are also running incandescents. The key sometimes is to just upgrade those cheap board connectors that go bad after 10-20 years.

Ahh well you know, I finally ran out of excuses for not changing .... and I thought there's no point in me acting like a flamin ostrich!

I see your dilemma now. The electronics in those early solid state Gottliebs weren't engineered or built to be reliable for a year let alone 40 no matter what bulb you use. I was speaking of my experience with Bally and Williams products.

Or to use the cargument, I stick with mostly Toyota and Honda, but won't touch a Yugo or a Renault.

No. LED I have found are Far and away superior way to light games. More reliable and less destructive whatever way anybody slices it. It isn't an opinion either really, it just is. Incandecent is old news. Last centuries story.

Each has the right to treat their games whatever way they see fit, of course.

The title of the thread says it's about colours anyway. LED or incandecent has nothing to do with this thread as far as I see. My LEDs are overwhelmingly White.

    I like it that way

Would it be okay if someone put Purple condoms on all their Yellow incandecent GI
    bulbs? lol

Found this listed on eBay while searching for parts. Dude even swapped the displays with green LEDs to match the rest of that mess.

Mine wasn't quite this bad, but the owner had started swapping in red and green LEDs over a good portion of the playfield. It's already a dark game. Red and green lights certainly didn't help it any.

Light emitting diodes used for illumination have no place in pinball machines unless the machines were specifically designed with them. Just my .02.

    Quoted from swanng:

I used to think this, until I saw and used the Sunlight 2SMB's from comet. They have excellent light distribution and look fairly natural, and bright enough to illuminate dark games. I use them in all games, including early SS and EM's. But they only come in natural white, so you can't do your game like an asshole if you only buy those.

Do any of you guys still use the old bulbs? I only ask because I have quite a few boxes I would be interested in getting rid of.

Depends on how hard they are to get to. The original GE bulbs are certainly a higher quality than most of what is available today.

One thing about incandescents is they actually stay in their holders and don't have that stupid single wire leds do that you have to bend or tweak to get them to work.

    #4000 4 years ago

GE 44s might get some looks.
