When you speak of terms of "needed", a lot of the mods done are certainly not needed. As far as the elderly comment goes - the elderly are far more inclined to be purists. I may not be elderly (52) but I actually prefer incandescent lamps in most of my games. I think it is the young that are more inclined to add colored LEDs in all forms, and as they increase in the hobby in numbers they are more likely to be the buyers of colored posts, LED strip lights, lighted speakers and so forth. I've posted about that before...my son has LED remote strip lights on his walls, his computer keyboard has rainbow LEDs throughout, and bubbly liquid filled LED computer speakers. Thank God he isn't interested in buying a pinball because I know exactly what would happen.

I wouldn't use lights under the post to add more GI, but there are definitely games that could benefit from a spotlight or too. White, of course.

Lets just say a company was selling LED kits for people to install in their machines. I think it would be more effective if they actually grasped the theme of the machine that they were making the kits for. Cactus Canyon. A theme based on the wild west. One of the first images most people think of when you mention that, is of bright sunshine in the sky, with sweeping prairies and some old wooden buildings on both sides of a single dusty road. Bright and warm just like where a cactus grows. Most people immediately think of deserts. Not something that looks like it is in an ice castle, in the middle of Antarctica with blue spotlights shinning on it. Totally missed the boat. This CC could not look worse if the intent was to make it look ridiculous. If I came up with that color scheme I would have been embarrassed. If I bought an LED kit like this I would have to question my own sanity. If anyone actually thinks these colors are appropriate for the theme, you are wrong. Blues are associated with cool or cold things. Last time that I checked, the mid west did not resemble the ice planet Hoth.

Even that logic is not without flaws. Blue and purple colors are often associated with "scary"...it still doesn't make them good GI color choices for scary themed pins like BSD.

BTW, why I usually take the attitude that owners can do whatever they like with their own pin (I certainly do), but I do find this thread to be one of my absolute favorites on Pinside. Always puts a smile on my face and a rainbow colored glow in my heart.

Keep the great posts coming, just don't be too nasty or personal. However, if you are an "offender", you may want to 1) unsubscribe to this thread or 2) ask a person who loves you what their honest opinion is. I kind of equate this to those who can't really sing but appear on American Idol. Do these people have no one in their lives who loves them enough to tell them just how terrible they are before they humiliate themselves in front of the entire nation? Not that rainbow pukers are terrible people, it is just that they have no sense of color coordination and how to enhance a theme using color as opposed to overwhelming a theme and sometimes obliterating it.

Keep sharing the rainbow love!
