If there's anything that goes well with early SS machines, it's purple leds. Welcome to the jungle, baby.

I just want to say I really enjoy this thread. I guess I agree with most of the sensibilities on display although clearly not all of pinside has the same tastes on LED themes

I cannot Fathom how anyone can look at that, let alone play it
Quoted from MoSeS_1592:Opinion... Are mirror blades an indirect extension of rainbow puke?
I don’t like them on modern Sterns. Something about them doesn’t look right to my eye, and they create clearance issues with the playfield. I prefer the art blades that were done by the original artist for the game.
I don’t mind them on 90s games where there were no original art blades. I had them on my Capcom Airborne and they looked good.
I don't mind mirror blades at all. They are a good option if you don't like the available side art, Stern or aftermarket. I just put mirror blades on my Metallica because none of the art work appealed to me. I also did a SM vault with mirrorblades that really looked good. Right now I have a Mando and the sideblades I have looked at don't impress me and will probably do mirrors.

I put mirror blades on my mando and absolutely love them, ordered a set for a Godzilla premium I'm waiting on. They brighten up any game you put them in without having to throw a bunch of LEDs on them.
Mirror blades are garbage, like mentioned above they just make the playfield look strange but the real pain in the ass is having them scrape against rails, hardware or playfield edge and get damaged. I've seen felt added to the edge of the playfield but that usually makes things too tight and the hinge action is all fucked up.
Tacky garbage which causes issues that were not there before, the worst kind of mod.

Mirror blades are great. I can’t believe anyone on this thread would object to something that makes the playfield easier to see, and doesn’t change the color of the art.

Well, some of them aren’t. Looking at you, Jurassic Park.

Never got that impression when I owned it.

I'm objecting it making the PF easier to see & I actually own a set

I see one WHITE Led in the left inlane. How the hell did that get in there? someone doing a joke on this guy, to make him have a chance to see the ball for a split second.
this is my new favorite thread. I haven't spoken up elsewhere because so many people seem to love LED's. but all these colors that change the art, both backglass and playfield, just seems disrespectful to the original artists to me. I love to play pinball but I also really enjoy the older machines as cultural objects and art objects. Glad some folks agree. I'm in the process of de-colorizing my newly acquired Getaway. can't wait to see how it looks with original bulbs (I'm also going to try some soft-white LEDs, but I just love the yellow glow of real incandescents). But I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion and their own color schemes.

All you need to decipher is that someone thought Monopoly needed a lime green LED'd topper.

yup, I let that guy have it on Facebook in various groups. He's a jackwad as well. And doesn't even know what GI means. Explains why hit game looks like total dog shit. Has no idea what Gi's are or their purpose.

this show'd up on facebook today... I also have a Time Warp and one of the nicest things about the whole aesthetic of the game is the warm ambient light. not a good candidate for LED, imho. (second pic is my Time Warp with no LEDs, next to my getaway)

Wait, that's not just how they came from the factory in 1979?!

It really bugs me that they did a decent job color-matching, but then have one random dark blue and put purple all over the red at the top

unfortunately, it does that light rainbow shit show while you are playing and trying to figure out what is lit for whatever you are doing. Constantly.
Player: lets see what is lit for my next shot
Game: Nah, look at this wavy color pattern I can do with the inserts
Player: My modes almost done, stop so I can see the shot
Game: Fuck you, if you want to see the rules and where to shoot, buy the DE version.
