best way to open coin door and backbox when no key can be found

    #2 7 years ago

Drill, baby, drill! Drill the coin door lock first and see if the key is on the back of the coin door for the backbox before you drill that one out. IIRC, 1/4" drill bit is all that's needed.

Pick it or drill the lock on the coin door. Sometimes you get lucky and the backbox key is inside. If not, you'll have to drill out the lock on the backbox as well.

I'd first try opening the front door lock with a screwdriver (without damaging door). You never know. If not, drill away as others have said.

You have 11 pins, use a key from the same era game. As long as it goes into the key hole, jiggle the key while turning. There is a good chance that 1 key will work.

For the backbox, it depends on the game. Some of the locks have screws that hold them in place. Just unscrew, push up and in and you can get the translight out.

I lost the backbox keys for my Transformers. That's how I ended up changing the lock.

You don't have to drill the lock on the backbox, you can remove the factory screws by using a very small flat-head screwdriver then just put a new lock on

He didn't name the game. Not all are that simple. Lock on side of head, lock on top of head, etc.

As others have said, drill the door lock BUT then look inside for the backbox key.

It should be hanging on a hook inside the coin door BUT also look around inside the cabinet using a torch (or flashlight for you ) because very often they become dislodged and find their way to a corner of the cabinet or under the power TX etc.
