First, the decal has a notch that lines up with the notch on the wheel. After the decal is on correctly, the way the game figures out what lines up is there are two opto switches, one opto switch activates only one time per revolution, the other activates at each space on the wheel. The wheel spins, and when the game sees the first opto it knows where that is on the wheel, then it uses the other opto to count how many spaces from there it is. Once it knows how many spaces from the reference point it caculates what award "should" be awarded. Not the most reliable system, but works mostly.
