No Fear Skull not seeing ball - how do I test Infrared?

Starting a No Fear project, routed pin that is really dirty so far the only issue I'm seeing hits to the skull don't register. Thus far I pulled the subway off, cleaned it and infrared sensors with qtips.

What tool do I need to pick up to test the I infrared sensors? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Do you have an old digital camera? You can see the sending side of the glow. Thats the one that typically will fail, or at least a free way to test. I Phone 3 worked great for that the new ones don't.

Radio shack used to make an infrared test card, but it no longer exists. I just use the camera on the phone, it shows up as a purple light.

The digital did the trick, replaced them and it is now passing test mode.
