20141216_205544.jpg20141216_205544.jpgMy NF cab is totally faded. Almost looks black & white in the right light - very pale yellow.

Used some Sharpies tonight to test if I'd be able to restore color to the cabinet using real paint pens. First pass + resounding yes. Just really would like to make the front look really nice and still need to restore the coin door.

I installed the post between the bumpers since the hole is already there and was just capped. I like it alot because it adds a little more thought about letting a SDTM go and hopefully bounce back, or try to save it another way. Doesn't affect balls coming down at an angle, usually only the SDTM balls or close to SDTM.

Worth trying, right? Just put the cap back in the hole if you don't like it.

I'm confused - there are no bumpers on this game. I guess you meant to say flippers?

Yes, meant to says flippers.

Quoted from TheLaw:

That's up to you only, as there isn't a hole there from the factory.

My No Fear has a factory hole for a post between the flippers and just had a white plastic cap filling it. I removed the cap and screwed in the post and the post adds a little more thinking to how to handle balls that are SDTM or close to it.

#152 9 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Ah then, you have a prototype. NF with a post is a little sketchy, but if it helps you play go for it.

Oh, that's kinda cool I guess. Really, the post doesn't save you often....you also have to have No Fear when deciding to let the ball go without trying to save it. haha

No Fear is on the backburner while I restore two Tales From the Crypts and finish my DE Star Wars. But I couldn't help but add 12v red LED strips under the backback for a cool effect. First pic is with flash and second is without flash. Just weird how the camera can't capture the in-person, human eye, view of the actual effect of LEDs.

Few mods I added to No Fear last night. First I painted the No Fear logo that is in the mountain with a red paint pen. Looks super!

Then I added a Valvoline race car I bought off eBay for $5 (including shipping) and a $2.17 Hot Wheels racing motorcycle. They both fill in spots that showed nothing but bare metal or clear plastic covering nothing in particular. Neither block any view of the ball and the Valvoline car looks pretty damn good in that spot because you see if often while making the ramp and jumps.

If the machine won't

Quoted from woody24:I want to try this machine again. I remember seeing this out in public in '95-'96. My first reaction was, "This machine looks totally awesome! It's all ramp shots. And I'm totally wearing my No Fear baseball themed shirt. This machine is perfect for me!" Ok, who knows if I was actually wearing my shirt at that time, but know I had a few.
So I put in my money, had 3 balls drained pretty much instantly. "This game totally sucks." And I had never seen or played a No Fear since.
20 years later, I think I can forgive the machine for taking my money.

If the pin isn't shopped and dialed in, the launcher may not shoot the ball up into the Skydive hole, which means some STDM.

After two years, finally doing a full tear down shop job on mine.

Finished the shopping of No Fear last week. Full tear down, LEDs, ramp Cliffys installed, fire Pinblades installed, blue LED strip inside the Tube area, white LED strips behind the Racetrack ball guides (behind Skull), extra spotlights installed to light up the car I placed on the left ramp gate and the car to the left of Skull, added orange LED strip to give some color to above the laser kick, added a white LED strip to the other side of the jump ramp to illuminate skull better, red LED strips under the backbox so the upper playfield ramps have a light red glow.

Only issue I need to fix is replacing the GI connector on the board because the upper GI is out. The GI around the skull (racetracks stands plastics) and each top corner is out. So the upper playfield will be brighter looking once those plastics are lit.

Yeah, this one connector was repaired at one point because it's two connectors on one set of pins. Like someone had a 2 pin connector and a 9 pin connector or whatever. It's just those two pins causing the issue. But was waiting to repair so I can try out my desoldering station I got this weekend at Allentown.

Start testing all the transistors because likely a few are bad.

#228 7 years ago

Wow, that's a lot of work you have. The skull can be turned off in the settings if that helps you though.

Here's a link to all the photos I took when I shopped my No Fear a few weeks ago. Maybe some will help you out.

Joining the club again after a 6 year hiatus. Looking back on my posts in this thread has been a blast from the past. Do a search for my name and you'll see the mods I tried out - some good, some bad, but all fun - and some lineup changes from back then.

A No Fear popped up for sale about 2 hours from me and luckily I was scrolling thru FB right after it was posted.

I now know to install an LED OCD board when installing LEDs in the inserts.

I was not pleased with the audio via original backbox and under cabinet speakers. A bit of static and "muddy" sounds at higher volumes, probably bad backbox speakers. Only the left speaker produced sound and nothing from the right.

Luckily I had a mod which allowed me to send the audio out to a 1/8" cable. I had a spare, cheap, Amazon Warehouse soundbar and subwoofer that replace the pin cabinet speakers and sound awesome.

Where would this mod be a found?
Link ?

Friend of mine gave it to me a couple years ago and I never had use for it. Then I was like, wait, that has an 1/8” output and I have this nice sound bar subwoofer combo.

Looks like it is a Pinnovator part for WPC.

Got my Cliffy set last week, so soon I’ll be installing the brand new ramps. Wasn’t going to install them until I had the ramp Cliffy set.

#815 2 years ago

It's to prevent stuck balls. Far right corner, it attaches to the black wood rail, you'll see the two screw holes. Hard to get a pic.
Actually, in the first pic posted in the message above, you can see it there installed under the scuff marks on the sidewall.

My latest mod turned out so spectacular that I’ve decided to make it available to purchase.

$69 shipped to anywhere in the USA.

Shipping option to Australia?

I was making a joke about selling the mod. LOL.

It’s literally two googly eyes taped to the skull. I did it as a joke just to amuse me and make my wife laugh.

But it actually looks pretty bad ass I think.

Worked out the plastic well enough. Does anyone know what this plug is used for? I can’t work out what plugs into it

It's unused, not sure what it is for.

Spent time on No Fear yesterday. Working on the underneath of the playfield shopping now.

Brand new flippers and hardware installed, new ball launcher and kickback save coil sleeves installed and plungers clean.

Now launched balls always make it up to the Skydive hole. Balls saved by the kickback save now shoot smoothly up thru and around the right racetrack loop. It was pathetic before, maybe a ball would reach the right sling.

I replaced all the GI bulbs with warm white LEDs. I already replaced the Insert bulbs and installed LED OCD board.

Still need to replace the other coil sleeves and remove the subway to clean it. Then the bottom is done and I’ll go up top where the new ramps are sorely needed and will look awesome when installed.

Quoted from mollyspub:

Make sure you check out the long metal upper flipper bushing for wear! Marco has them in stock.

Quoted from allsportdvd:

Question. When is the jump ramp available to shoot vs the magnet holding the ball and sending down the left wire form?
I seem to get rejections all the time but tested the magnets and they seem to work fine

The magnet will stop the ball during certain modes so it returns to the left flipper so you can hit the right ramp, or make a jackpot in the center, etc.

Quoted from allsportdvd:

Some more help please. My ball popper VUK will not shoot a ball up if there are 2 or more balls in the subway. It tries a few times but then stops making Multiball useless
Here is a pic of the vuk, is there anything missing or is that the correct sleeve?
[quoted image]

I’d start by replacing the sleeve and the coil stop. That will do wonders. I can’t tell of anything incorrect in the photo except the coil is filthy.

Quoted from Chisel:

I’m working on a no fear for a friend. It had the wrong spinner in it, just a generic spinner from an older solid state machine.
I’ve purchased the correct spinner and have installed it, but I’m thinking there maybe more missing as during gameplay the spinner easily slides sideways and moves off the microswitch lever.
Would someone be willing to send me photos of the details around the spinner setup please?
Thanks in advance.
