I played a No Fear in Texas last year at the pinball festival and loved it. Big Steve Richie fan as it is. She's been sitting around a long time so I'll have to strip and clean her up adding some LED's and such. How do you guys get the skull nice and white? Clean it? Paint it? Can't wait to get it working and play the heck out of it. It was time for a new winter project to keep me busy and I figured a No Fear would be perfect! Typical side art fade so I'll be replacing that.

Well I picked up my No Fear. It's been sitting in a warehouse a long long time but she came to life. Thankful for that remote battery mount because the batteries started to leak! I'll be doing NVRam anyhow to avoid that all together going forward. Started to clean her up and add some LED's. Just placed some orders with Comet, Pinball Life, and Marco to finish it off soon. Playfield is beautiful and is cleaning up nice. The subway under the PF brought filthy to a new level for me! I don't think anyone ever cleaned that! Wow! Any ideas how to get the skull pure white again other then painting it? I've been playing the heck out of it so far and loving it! Can't wait to get the rest of the game shopped out and really spend some time on the table. My drop target is stuck up so the main board will come out. I'm sure a transistor shorted out because it looks like they replaced everything under the PF trying to fix that when it went bad. Any tips and tricks for the rest of my shop out feel free to chip up!

Quoted from setzkor:

For the skull, I'm not sure there's an easy fix. Often you can soak in peroxide and put it in the sun, though some will say in a year or so it will get even worse. I think there is also a product called retrobrite that some use. Basically all of these techniques seem to involve oxidizing (light etching) of the surface. I've tried the peroxide technique on white toys to varying degrees of success.
Good luck

I'm starting to think prep it and spray it with some white spray paint!

Anyone had a subway this filthy before? Thank god for Novous 2! Came up pretty nice! I had to scrub the heck out of the bottom of the PF as well! I think it came up pretty good! My buddy thought the actual plastic was black in color when he first saw it!

Let the tear down begin! This turned from a simple shop job to all the way down. The crud was just too much! Little before and after... She cleaned up nice!

Seems I was WAY back on my rom no less! Proto-type? I can't believe all the play this table has had over it's life the rom must have never been updated! Talk about a huge difference in game play!

Waiting on a new main ramp but what a ride. About 20 plus hours into this thing so far. It's almost ready to play! I'll play it a bit then it's getting all new artwork. Can't wait to put some hours on it playing it finally!

#372 5 years ago

Out with the old in with the new! New main ramp is ready for install. This thing was filthy and trashed in several places. Few nice coats of wax before I moved everything over so it should play even faster! Hopefully I'll be playing this weekend finally.

If for any reason anyone wants my old ramp pay for the shipping and it's yours. It's dirty as hell and broken in several places but still worked if your missing one. It might clean up as all the other ramps cleaned up nice and they were just as nasty.

And the final product! Came out really nice and plays amazing. ColorDMD going in tomorrow!

#375 5 years ago

Well I "thought" I had a bad DMD. Seems I have a bad ram! Installed the ColorDMD this weekend and thought it would cure the bad line in the display. Guess I'll be rebuilding the display board and hunting down the bad ram! Other than that, the ColorDMD looks amazing in this one! On the plus side I have a spare good DMD now to stash away.

Anyone have a good way to line up the flippers? I did a shop on mine with complete flipper rebuild and I matched them to the outlanes like I normally do but I think they are aimed down too far now. Sure wish the PF had the holes to line up the flipper bats!

Quoted from arcyallen:

Well, I just bought my very first pin. And yeah, it's a NF so I'm pretty psyched! It's pretty much ready to go with minimal issues (I need to adjust the plunge to hit the drop down) but I do have a question: What are these clearly pointy things? I can't see a real benefit to them, but surely they have a function. I look forward to a reply that a) is enlightening, and b) makes me feel silly for asking [quoted image]

I put a little white round post rubber on those when I shopped mine out. Just in case the balls gets up there it will bounce away and it least with the rubber on it, it looks like it belongs there

Is anyone even in this club?

Try looking on my Flickr page. You can blow the pics up pretty big. I took a bunch when I did my shopout on my NF

Just picked up a No Fear. Looking forward to shopping it and getting everything working.
Bonehead has a missing red lens for the right eye. Anyone know here to get a replacement?

I'd go with something along these lines and adapt.

Finally got my new mountain installed. Little darker than the OEM one but my mounting tabs were broken. Just to have a solid piece in there again as the old one was flying around a bit. I used some clear lexan washers to keep the balls away this time! I'm going to mount an led reflector on the sling shot and maybe shoot it with a red led to brighten it up a bit. I got the new mountain from https://www.starship-fantasy.com/ but I don't see it on their page. I run into them at a few pinball shows yearly and he had them on his table. Can't remember what I paid for it but it was'nt that bad.

The newest No Fear club member is...ME!
Has been in a home since 1999 and has NO FADE! Outrageous ! [quoted image][quoted image]

That's the aftermarket art work. Someone changed it. The black line on the bottom gives it away that's why the colors are so nice Side blades are nice.

Quoted from transprtr4u:

Any other No Fear owners have Pre drilled mini post holes in their playfield? My first one didn't have it and this one does ?
[quoted image][quoted image]

Mine has the plug.

These haven't been changed at any point.

I've never seen a factory one with that black line on the bottom. That's the reproduced 2.0 art.

It's the little things that count Painted my coin door for No Fear. I'm sure once I install it back on the game that will result in a complete resticker project next!

So I'm thinking this winter I'd like to replace the art work on my badly faded No Fear. Who has the best out there? I was thinking on going with these...

Alternative out of the question?

Are those the new ones by micro that are super shiny?

#552 3 years ago

Oh yea I saw those.. Not a fan. I like the original art just a shame there wasn't a drop of VU coating invented yet for it!

#593 3 years ago

Has anyone repainted their skull on the PF? Mine is a bit yellow ish. I'd like to spray it white but how do you airbrush all the teeth lines and such. Anyone restore one? Can you share the process used? I guess if I hear some stories it will make me feel better tackling mine!

I hear RadCals will make art work for No Fear next year! Can't wait for that. My faded NF will look new again. Anyone ever use them on anything else?
