Putted my No Fear up for a 100% restore at the pinballpt guys, and decided to have a lot of work with a redraw of the cabinet art, since it is my machine.
Wanted to show off the project since it is gonna be a 100% redraw.. no photoshoping crap with scans. it will look clean and perfect
i don't think anybody ever done this.
here is the side, all traced in illustrator:

Cool. Post pics as the project progresses. Should be a one of a kind machine.

#3 11 years ago

Looks good. I bet those colors will really pop with the right colored legs, armor and coin door.

Nice work.

#4 11 years ago

nice when you own it, can new and improve it any way you want, would like to see some pics along the way

#5 11 years ago

Hey, That looks like its gonna be interesting. My son is trying to learn this skill. Were completely redoing a space station that was trashed. We downloaded cs2 for free, and he's been playing around with it. Would like to see the decals when done. Todd

Can't wait to see the progress on this project

#9 11 years ago

started to put the gradient effects.
left before, right after.
being this a full redraw, it's obvious that the lines aren't 100% accurate, but are so close that on the machine your eyes won't even see the difference from the original.

Hi!

If you met the guys, please ask for me, what is the device, what they use for scanning...
The is a lot handheld scanner on the market...
Thanks!

I bought a badly faded NF a few years ago, it was basically black and white, and back then I couldn't find the decals anywhere. My solution was nowhere near as ambitious as yours. I used a bunch of sharpies to add the colors back with the help of my then 7 year old son. The skull was also yellow, and my son asked my if we'll paint that too. I followed his advice, sprayed it white (taped over the eyes) and added the blacks with sharpies. Came out looking new, cost almost nothing. Fun game, fast and very unforgiving.

Looking great.

I assume you scanned the artwork & then re-drew in Illustrator?

#32 11 years ago

Wow...

Always warm for the heart, looking somebody save pins for the future...

#33 11 years ago

Looks brilliant. Such a great job, and so much sweeter with all the work you've put in! Thankfully it was easily traceable artwork.

#34 11 years ago

Did you ask the scanner for me?

#40 11 years ago
Quoted from Angyalpor:

Did you ask the scanner for me?

yep, i didn't forgot about you
he uses this one (i think he uses the old model, but it's the same thing):
http://www.irislink.com/c2-1988-189/IRIScan-Book-2---Scan-from-books---magazines-without-computer-.aspx
it's hard to scan, and you have to pass the scanner slowly and always at the same speed (at least try to). then you will be with 2 or 3 thick but long stripes of image. all goes to photoshop for alignment and rescaling.
if the art is simple enough (or you are a pro in the art department), you pass it to illustrator to make a redraw using the scanned image as a guide. by a redraw i mean drawing all the art in vector art technique, not tracing the art (transforming an image into vector using the trace tool ---> crap!).
if the art is way too hard and full of realistic images or gradients, you can only try to clean, fix, stamp, crop and chop in photoshop.
examples of simple art that i have done a redraw (or parts): no fear, dr who, dracula..
example of a complicated art that wouldn't handle a redraw, so had to be made/fixed in photoshop: cv

sorry for the long and boring post :p

Great info!

I took a closer look at my JD for how easily it could be traced. It wouldn't be too hard to do the cab sides but the backbox sides are filled with complex halftone and that would be a nightmare.

I'm keen to try the portable scanner method rather than photographing. They can be had for pretty cheap so I'll pick one up and play around with it

#42 11 years ago
Quoted from accidental:

it is a nightmare. No Fear here is full of those gradients. first you have to find the halftone "little ball" size that is close enough to the real thing. then you have to make the gradients without the effect till you reach a perfect one that looks like the original. then you apply the effect and pray it still looks like it
took me a million tries with every detail on no fear.

photographing ---> major crap!
scanning ---> good (if you are a pro in photoshop)

the best advice i can give: if you are not a photoshop master then stay away from this, you will only waste your time lol

#43 11 years ago

Thank you for the information!
So the scanner is a standard portable one, 600dpi... I thought, they use a special one, but now I'm happy, because not.
I will try to make stencils for mine, and repaint it. Simple shapes, not difficult. In paper.
I used Photoshop a lot, I make small print works...I hope, it will be enough.

#44 11 years ago

yes, the scanner is the cheapest you can find heheheheheh

if you Angyalpor, or anyone has problems or needs help in photoshop or whatever in this process, you can ask me. i will always try to help

#45 11 years ago

You did a fantastic job. I'm not tech savvy, so I went the airbrush route. I'm sure it wouldn't stand up to your job, but its night and day compared to the faded out norm. $300 for decals or $3 for paint.

#46 11 years ago

Wow.

Airbrush rocks, too.

#47 11 years ago

nf at #96?
camon.... the last time i looked into it, it was at #60 ish.. so what happened? lol

i hope the work i have done on nf will help it go to top 50 at least! hehehehehehehe
mine will for sure!

nf100.jpgnf100.jpg

#49 11 years ago

No fear = No fun. Haha

#50 11 years ago

It's a top 50 game, for sure.

Nice work on the redraw, Hassanchop.

Depending on the price, I might be in for a set of your inside cab decals...
