Hey guys, I have a Williams No Fear that when I press the ball launch button there is a delay in the launch by maybe a second or 2, also on auto fire when the ball drains during ball save, its probably a 5 or 6 second delay. On multiball I can't tell if there is a delay, or how long a delay, but I'm sure its because it's less noticeable during gameplay, (I'm trying to score jackpots damn it!) Is this a board issue or maybe an opto? What can I test for? Thanks in advance for any help and guidance.

Likely your shooter lane switch is not registering properly. Go into switch test and make sure that switch is working properly.

I tested the shooter lane switch its working fine, I made sure to test with a ball, not just pressing it with my finger to make sure the ball is triggering it properly. Its registering, however I did by chance find the right outlane was not registering, bad switch, so I replaced it.

UPDATE !!!!!! I checked shooter lane switch again, rolling a ball over the switch it registered, however the ball at rest in the position it launches from, the switch went back open. The angle/slope of the switch wireform was just a tad shallow at the shooter end, so after bending it up slightly so the switch would stay made, its fixed! Thanks Coyote!

I have ANOTHER weird thing if you're interested same game, Williams No Fear, when I put up a high score, the left flipper will scroll its one direction through the alphabet, but the right will not. I cleaned all the fliptronics photo eyes when I replaced the flipper buttons and interupters. The flippers are great besides this one dumb thing. This game is a learning experience for sure. SO FILTHY WHEN I GOT IT! I'm also getting a ball missing error but I'm still testing to see if I can figure it out.

Tests - Switch Edge - push flipper button in slowly. Do both optos register on the screen, one at a time ? First one is for lower flippers, second one is for other stuff in the machine.

What LTG says - only one 'switch' (opto) is read for the initials entry - the top one. So, check that both register.

LTG, thanks. I tried it, I get two squares on the test display for the EOS on the left flipper, and then on the flipper opto switch itself I get two squares and the little Williams "bloop" switch test tone . . . on the right one, the EOS shows up as one square and then on the flipper switch test I get one square on the display and no "bloop" test sound. Is it as simple as a failed fliptronic opto board? Everything else will be new after I do all 3 new flipper rebuild kits so why not right? if one is gone is the other not far behind?

I'd replace the opto that doesn't work rather than a whole new board.

I doubt it.

I appreciate the help, I'm thinking this is the problem for sure. Bulb bases, micro switches, coils, I can unsolder/solder all day but tiny stuff on boards not so much.

You may have a hard time finding replacement flipper opto boards. While I haven't looked in a while, I've seen folks post here that they had issues finding replacements.

Looks like Marco has them, good price too imo. Repros, i guess? Appears they beefed them up a bit with stronger components according to the description.
