    is it a tint that makes sense the display darker?

    its a little tinted and it also make the DMD a little"sharper" due to the glow of each dot is not that strong, but its and probably almost the same as you refer to RJP BUT with no adhesives. This one between the speakerpanel and DMD. Uses the standard fitting so totally reversable and if you sell the game just pick it out and use in your new game. Its the size that makes it expensive. Expensive piece of plastic but it does the job and you cant see it.
    For you over there its gonna be some of the store that takes it in so hopefully it will be available somewhere around end of november.
    Here in europe the first sale day starts 20-21 nov on the swedish championship tournament. Ebay maybe but freight cost.. haven't really decided yet.
