Quoted from Kkuoppamaki:

I just got a text from Amazon that Mario Party will be delivered today, anyone else pre-order it?
I haven't played Switch in a while (DK tropical freeze was quite hard, and things got busy at work) so looking forward to this

I preordered Mario Party from the E-store. It has been sitting on my switch all week driving my kids crazy because it gives them the message that the game cannot be played until 10/05. Its just sitting there taunting them.

We have every Mario Party released, it is a family favorite. We have been playing the WiiU one for the last two weeks straight.

I also got Splatoon 2 because a friend wanted me to so we could play it online but im just not feeling that game at all, seems stupid AF to me.....maybe im missing something i dont know but its just not fun at all so far to me..

I am probably missing the same thing as you are... I just don't get this game at all. I have splatoon 1 and splatoon 2, and don't get the appeal of either of them. If you don't have Mario Odyssey, you are shortchanging yourself, it is one of the best Mario games of all time..... Just sheer enjoyment.

I am probably the only one on the planet that likes this game, but Gear Club Unlimited is a game I have spent waaaaayyyyy too many hours on.

Quoted from Rarehero:

What don't you get? I'll help you out.
What I love about Splatoon:
-The entire aesthetic...the colors, the world, the incredible music.
-I hate first person games, so having a shooter than's 3rd person is great, and I love that you get shooter gameplay without it being about war and murder.
-Turning into a squid rules, and hiding/swimming in ink is super fun.
-Tons of way to play...with all the weapons, subs and supers, anyone can come up with crazy strategy.
-MOTION AIMING! This takes gameplay to another level...the precision of motion aiming makes gameplay so satisfying.
-Special events: SPLATFEST! Splatfests are a fun way to compete & get prizes...and each one has a special custom level only for that time period.
-Multiple modes: Turf War is fun, but getting competitive and rising in the ranks with Clam Blitz, Tower Defense, Splat Zones & Rainmaker mixes up gameplay and strategy, forcing you to try new weapons and playstyles.
-Salmon Run: A great co-op mode, working together with friends and earning prizes.
-Great 1p modes: The stock 1p mode is super fun, with great boss fights and allows you to learn the game mechanics offline...and the Octo Expansion DLC is a great "hardcore" 1p mode that'll really test your skills!

Those all sound great, I still don't get it..... LOL....There isn't one thing I can place my finger on where I can identify why I don't like it, it just doesn't jive with me at all. Same deal with Arms..... I can't get into that one either. I don't usually play FPSs, so i don't think that is swaying why i don't like this game, in theory I should like it more becasue I don't gravitate towards FPSs.

I have been watching my kids play Fortnite lately, I might give that a try. I gravitate towards sports games and racing games, and the Switch has a few of those, but not nearly enough.

I am super jacked about Mario Party though.

Quoted from InfiniteLives:

do you have to play for the online subscription now to play splatoon online?
why i ask is they gave me a free download code for an item or whatever but i dont plan on getting it. i could give it away to someone but if everyone has it cause they had to sign up for online to play it that makes it so everyone gets one anyways ha.

Yeah, me too... I bought a family plan and have a lot of codes for Splatoon 2 if anyone needs them... i think it is for accessories in the game, i didn't pay attention.

"Thank you for purchasing a 12-month Family Membership for Nintendo Switch Online. You have qualified to receive an Online Jersey and Online Squidkid V Shoes for your character to wear in the Splatoon 2™ game."

I have 8 codes for the stuff above if anyone needs them.

Quoted from Rarehero:

Maybe you just don't like fast paced competitive games? ARMS and Splatoon are very fast paced and if you don't think and act very quickly constantly, you're boned. It's weird tho, cuz I never really liked competitive games, but I loved the graphics and music of these games so much, I totally got into the gameplay & got pretty good at them! ARMS with motion controls is the most fun I've had with fighting games since the 90's. Splatoon is the only shooter I'll play. After Splatoon's 60fps, motion controls, and great music, Fortnite just feels like garbage. I can't play it.

Yeah, I wish I could place what it is..... I like fast paced competitive *fighting* games, played a ridiculous amount of MK and KI when I was younger, I also really like games like Twisted Metal..... But maybe I just don't like fast paced 1st person style stuff. What I have seen from Fortnite I really like (not the graphics, they are garbage), but I really like the goofiness of it. (A shooting game where you bust out awkward dance moves? Riding around in a shopping cart for no damn reason? You have my attention)....

I get where you are coming from with your background, enjoying the visual appeal of these games, but in general, I am a 14 year old jackass that loves stupid/random crap....

#1431 5 years ago

Just got done with a 2 hour mario party session with my boys. If you like the originals, this one doesnt dissapoint! I lost to a 4 and 7 year old, but beat the 10 year old.... Dominated every minigame but had poor board timing.... sucks having 200 coins and not a single star to show for it.

So is Luigi's Mansion going to be any good?

I don't know how it couldn't be. I stole one of my son's DSs to play that title from star to finish several times. Nintendo titles are just sooooooo good. Super Mario party is probably the best Mario Party to date. We probably logged about 12 hours on it this past weekend.

Super Mario Party is absolutely outstanding!!!! That is all, Lol

Agreed, it is my favorite game on the system for multiplayer. Lots of different things to explore, and really unique challenges incorporating the gyroscope and rumble functions.

I played the very first one on the original nintendo and it was pretty fun. Not sure if i would like it as much now if i went back and played it though. Im really liking DK Tropical Freeze alot and i like crash bandicoot games pretty good also if that helps?

It is worth getting. I like both of those games, but SMO is waaaaayyyy better. The major difference is that if you like very structured levels, SMO is going to be different. You can play it how you want to, not how the game makes you- like the other two titles you mentioned.

I have nephews that are 6 and 4 getting a switch for Christmas. any good recommendations for this age group game wise?

Mario Kart is a no brainer..... Easy to learn, and both can play at the same time. I have three boys under 12, my challenge is always finding something they can play at the same time. Other popular ones they play at the same time- Infinite Mini Golf, Minecraft(learning curve if they have never played), Rocket League, and Mario party is slower, but super fun.

#1709 5 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

they got the system bundle with mario kart ... do you think rocket league might be too much?

Might be too much, as in difficult? Not really.... The game is just silly fun, non-stop action. Being that both boys are close to the same age, and can have CPUs on their team for local matchplay, should be okay. My 4 year old really enjoys scooting around the different fields, and watching the CPU score for him, and then telling his older brothers- "I win!"

Also to note.... While Mario Party is the slowest of the 4 games, it is the one my 4 year old gravitates towards the most. He can do most of the challenges without assistance (there are one or two trickier ones), and he has a legitimate shot of beating me and his brothers because of the randomness of the star placement depending on the level.

Quoted from Sinestro:

Mario Odyssey.
My son was 5 when he had that one, and he loved it.

Mario Odyssey is great, but is pretty much a one player at a time game (Yay, I am the hat player two!)..... If it were his kids and not his nephews, I would say Mario for sure, but I was trying to pick out games that keep the nephews from fighting each other for controller time....

#1714 5 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

right on, didnt know if the mini games would be too much for mario party but doesnt sound like it.
good to know on rocket league as well, i havent played it

If their parents can get them through the game a few times, and show them some of the more difficult mini game objectives, they will be fine. My biggest issue in Mario Party is my two younger sons fighting over who gets to be Mario. My oldest knows the strategy of the character specific dice, and always calls them both dumb for fighting over Mario.... LOL

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Awesome game! Im surprised its not mentioned here any more than what it is.

I often forget it is on the Switch because I bought it on the WiiU when it came out. I am one of like 12 WiiU owners, and love that System too. I held off on the Switch when it first came out because all of the early launch titles were games I already had on WiiU. Once Super Mario Oddysey was released, I bit the Switch bullet. I still play our WiiU as much as the Switch...... A lot of great titles on both systems.

I don't know if anyone else is using these, bought I bought a pair of these back in July-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJ6K6B3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

They work really well, and when the firmware updates on the Switch, these update to work without issues. I don't own any Pro Controllers, just two sets of JoyCons, and two of the controllers linked above, and I have never really had any issues with any of them.

It is easy to spend money on the Switch quickly, especially when you download all of your content and Nintendo runs sales weekly. I am on my third memory card upgrade in the last year (Just moved up from 128gb to 256gb).

#1777 5 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I just bought a pro controller to use with Smash. I played Melee more than most games, but I don't love the idea of buying another GC controller (or an adapter) to use with a single game. I was looking at alt controllers - like the PowerA version of the pro controller, but ultimately just decided to go with the Pro controller so I don't lose out on the rumble. I've also had some pretty negative experiences with 3rd party controllers in the past.
You're right about spending money on this thing. I would like a second dock, but everything I read suggests that the only safe bet is the official (expensive) nintendo version. Bummer.

I am playing the crap out of Smash right now with these controllers and it works great. The only thing these don't offer is the Amiibo RF reader. I am not so hardcore Smash that I need a different controller either, I am more of a button masher in that game.

When I bought our Switch last year at Christmas, my grand total was just over $700. That was for two games, the system, a screen protector, a memory card, and an extra joycon. So much for being a $300 system.... LOL

Quoted from Crash:

Seriously! You can build a killer gaming PC that will emulate the Switch, Wii U, and every other Nintendo console. Plus you get to choose your accessories and use any controller under the sun. One of the downsides is that is not a portable solution.

Thanks, I have one of those too... I have been an IT admin for 21 years, so the Emulation stuff isn't foreign to me at all. Emulation is great, and has it's place, but once you have kids, things change. Finding time for stuff is far more challenging, and often times, your kids want to play the newest stuff online with their friends, and emulation isn't going to do that for them.

Cuphead is great, but it will be the source of a lot of Switches broken in rage.

You aren't lying.... If my Xbox was hooked up to a tv and not my projector, I would have gone through about 20 tvs by throwing my controller through them. Cuphead is super great though. Great animation, sound, everything. Just a great vibe all around.

3 weeks later
#2044 5 years ago

You guys will love Cuphead. I have it on xbox, but for safety reasons, i am not buying it for Switch because I fear I will throw the whole console across the room....

#2082 5 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

So there arent any power ups, different weapons, etc in Cuphead? Is there an ability tree or anything else?

Just the power canon you build up while shooting. It is just straight pattern recognition, in true all or none fashion.

My game typically goes like this..... none, none, none, none, all, excitement builds, none, none, throw controller....

#2086 5 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

Hmmm. The one thing I love about side scroll shooters is the variety of weapons or power ups you can get ala Contra or Mega Man. If there's a demo, I may have to try it before I buy it. It does look beautiful though, but my kids will undoubtedly want to play it but then ultimately get frustrated.

Watch any videos you can to get a better feel. Some of the levels are side scrollers, but many are static pattern recognition. I think the combination of artwork, sounds, music, and presentation make Cuphead really stand out. This game has a ton of charm and personality.

Quoted from winteriscoming:

Did anyone get into the Let's Go Pokémon games?
I played the original on Gameboy (and a couple of iterations after up to GBA) and this Switch version is kind of ok, but pretty dumbed-down by comparison. Mostly the random encounters are just really annoying and involve no battling like in the original. Otherwise it seems to be pretty much the same game as the original. I got through a few gym leaders and don't know if I'll end up finishing it.
I'm still grinding my way through Dark Souls, and am still frustrated by what seems like a lack of players online to summon or be summoned by. From my perspective, I'm basically soloing through the game, which is much more difficult.

I bought pikachu and played it all the way through. I enjoyed, but found the pace a little slow. My 11 year old has played every pokemon ever, and said this one was essentially a fancy looking rehash, but he still enjoyed it.

There really isn't any blockbuster game this fall

Except for Luigi's Mansion 3. I don't really get that excited for new releases, but that game is a top 5 for me. It is really well done musically, visually, and fun/casual gameplay.

#2413 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I'm actually looking forward to that game as well. However, I wouldn't exactly call it a blockbuster, lol. I still think the original was the best game on the gamecube despite the lukewarm reviews.

I played the Gamecube version quite a bit, but felt like the 3ds version was a whole other level of awesome. This looks to add onto both of them and take it over the top.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this one sells like crazy. Unlike a lot of the Nintendo releases this year that were rehashes/re-enhances of originals (Pokemon, Zelda), this is an original title developed for this system. It looks SUPER great, based on the few videos out there.

I know the gameplay isn't over the top difficult, but I think that actually helps this title.

Oh, and congrats on your first kid! There is nothing better/more satisfying in this world than being a father.

#2436 4 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I played through a lot of Zelda while they slept and I was off of work. I probably ended up depriving myself of more sleep than I should have, but it made me realize what a perfect system it is for someone like me. I could easily bring it into bed while I was 'on the clock' and my wife slept.

Exactly this..... My lack of sleep usually wasn't kid related, it was Switch related. Once the kid was asleep, the smart parent would use that time to catch up on some sleep as well. The 14 year-old trapped in a 43 year-old man's body (myself) used that time to level up in Pokemon.... You can still look super tired in the morning and come out looking like an All-Star though.... My wife- "Thank you for staying up with the kid while I slept".... Myself -"You are lucky I enjoy being a dad so much, it really wasn't any trouble".....

Quoted from Darscot:

Any one playing Untitled Goose Game it looks incredible.

Thanks, that looks right up my alley (being an a-hole).... I just pulled the trigger. For $15 its worth a shot.

#2458 4 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I did buy and play the goose game with the kids tonight. Worth it for the laughs alone (my 5 year old daughter was hyperventilating), but I don't think it would hold up much if I were playing on my own. The controls are a little tough... the damn goose doesn't want to track in one direction very well. I found myself picking up and dropping things consecutively while trying to work through some time-sensitive stuff since there's some delay from button press to action.
Fun, but felt a little monotonous after the first section. Get these items.. bug the shit out of this guy.. All good fun, but more like $5 fun than $15 fun.
Overall.... tomorrow I'm going to try and convince my kids to play some Mario kart, but I'm guessing there will be chants of "sil-ly goose! sil-ly goose! sil-ly goose!"

My experience was somewhat similar.... my 5 year old lost his mind with laughter.... that being said, I found the game incredibly difficult to figure out until I learned about the checklist of things you are supposed to do by pressing select. Then it was actually enjoyable. I will definitely spend more time on it.

#2468 4 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

Your 5 year old is clearly more coordinated than mine.

Quoted from MikeS:

I wouldn't feel bad. I've been gaming my whole life, and while I'm far from an expert level gamer he can legitimately beat me on most games. It's kind of embarrassing!

Just wait until they start teaming up on you..... Nothing sadder than getting my ass handed to me at Fortnite by three kids under 12. They really know how to make dad feel special by fighting over who is "stuck with dad".....

On a side note I also hope the lite doesn’t have the drift issue, 3 of my 4 joycons have it on the standard and its super annoying.

I have replaced about 40 of those analog sticks for myself and other people. Amazon has a nice little kit with proper tools and replacement analogs for about 15 bucks. Those analogs are poor quality at best.

#2715 4 years ago
Quoted from adol75:

There are 20 different products at 15 dollars, and all of them have good and bad reviews. I guess my best shot is to trust you ! Can you tell me which one you got ?

Sure.... here is the kit I bought-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MRJ12HX/

If you already have the screwdrivers that are in the kit, if you need just the analogs, I buy these in packs of 4-
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T1D1BNW

Also, after you install the new analogs- you have to recalibrate your joycons in the system menu. When I read some of the negative reviews on these, I just assume people are morons, and can't do basic things...... I have had zero issues with them.

Quoted from adol75:

I just finished installing 2, and ordered 4 more. Fast and easy, I really wish I did that before.

Awesome, glad to hear it worked out for you. It really is easy, one controller is a little hard than the other, but nothing too crazy. You just have to be gentle with the ribbon cables.

My kids are pretty hard on them, especially with Super Smash Brothers. It is nice to have spares, as you will be replacing them again....

Quoted from davijc02:

Bought my son a switch for Christmas and I’m super excited for him to open it and playing games with him.
Thus far I haven’t purchased a second controller yet. Do you guys recommend the pro controller which has a feel more like Xbox or what seems to be the best?

The Pro controllers feel great, but I would suggest another Joycon if more than two people are ever going to play. Each half of a Joycon can be used as a standalone controller for most games. And for games like Mario Party, your only choice is the Joycon.

Thats what I got for my normal switch and would recommend. I would assume they make switch lite versions.
EDIT:
found it
amazon.com link »

I have the protectors linked here for my switch and switch lite. They work great and are easy to install. I also got the clear plastic holder for the switch lite because my hands are far too big for the console.

A lot of times I throw the switch lite on a stand and use a generic pro controller for gameplay.
