Quoted from ralphwiggum:

Exactly this..... My lack of sleep usually wasn't kid related, it was Switch related. Once the kid was asleep, the smart parent would use that time to catch up on some sleep as well. The 14 year-old trapped in a 43 year-old man's body (myself) used that time to level up in Pokemon.... You can still look super tired in the morning and come out looking like an All-Star though.... My wife- "Thank you for staying up with the kid while I slept".... Myself -"You are lucky I enjoy being a dad so much, it really wasn't any trouble".....

This is funny.

I'm 46 and I can only get Switch time after 1030pm when my wife is asleep and the 14 y.o. and 12 y.o. are in bed and off of it.

You can play classic NES and Super NES games on the Switch when you have an online account. My 12 y.o. son likes NES Ice Hockey though he gets pissed that he can't beat me. I loved that game when I was 12.

Anyway, I'm super impressed with the Switch. It's really well designed, implemented, and thought out. Only issue I had was the SD card crapped out and I had to redownload stuff. Make sure your game saves are backed to Nintendo cloud as well as the system.

I highly recommend it as a family system.

On a totally unrelated note, have any of you discovered old games from years ago are now worth a few bucks?

Apparently my copy of Illbleed for the Dreamcast is hard to find and selling for $100 on eBay. Funny because I paid $15 for it on eBay and hated it, shelved it, and forgot I had it.

I'm getting the kids the 3D labo cardboard kit as an unexpected accessory this Christmas. For $40 I figured it could be a fun exercise.

The Switch is really very slick.

We got a second one this year after tiring of the kids fighting over whose turn it was to use it.

I linked my account to both and transferred one of the kids to the new one. Since I'm on both, I just download my save data for whichever game I'm playing from the cloud.

Boom.

I can use either one flawlessly.

Finally got the Labo Blaster done with my son.

The alien blasting game is really neat. Maybe not high replay, but pretty cool.

Also the videos that are on the Labo virtual viewer? A little freaky...

Quoted from konghusker:

How are the different labo kits? Durability and replay value? My son is wanting one suddenly for his birthday

For just cardboard, with no tape or glue, surprisingly durable. Granted, you can't abuse them. My hat is off to the designers for their remarkable origami skills. The clever assembly and integration with the Switch is impressive. For $30, you get a few hours of well guided assembly and some cute mini games. I endorse it.

Any thoughts on Ori and the Blind Forest?

I downloaded the demo and like it, wasn't sure about the whole game.

Ok, how about Mario and Sonic Olympics? My son wanted another family game for the four of us.

And had anyone downloaded the interactive movie, kind of like Dark Mirror Bandersnatch? Just saw that last night.

My daughter has been on Fire Emblem for months and just got Pokemon Shield, son rotates between FIFA20 and NBA2K20.

We're all taking our time with Zelda. Wife doesn't really play. In quarantine, glad we have two Switches.

So after doing the Ori and The Blind Forest demo, I bought the game.

I'm 46 and have a lot of platformer games under my belt. Yikes, this one is hardcore on the Normal setting. I've also learned, mostly from losing in games against my son, that my reflexes are not what they used to be. That is a hindrance in this game.

But it's gorgeous looking, the musical score is outstanding, and most importantly for this type of game...the controls are extremely tight. At least if I mess up I know it's not a controls issue.

I suspect it's on the shorter side but worth the $20. Hopefully Will of the Wisps will be ported as the sequel.

My daughter asked if we could get Animal Crossing. After reading up on it I concluded that the game made no sense and seemed pointless.

But, whatever.

After 4 days I'm hooked on the damn thing. Daughter has her own island, as do I. My son is a resident on mine.

The designers understand well how to create a cycle of rewards in carefully measured doses.
