I bought a switch not long ago and have been loving it. But, I was all excited to play Zelda: BOTW and after an hour of playing I went and listed it on ebay. I hated it.

#2941 4 years ago

Im pretty sure that is going to be released digitally. Isnt that physical copy $65? I could never spend that on that type of game.

Quoted from northvibe:

Why didn't you like it? I had a great time! Just need to get back to it.

It is a digital release, but Limited run games is releasing physicals for consoles. Switch game starts at $35

I hated everything about it. Big open boring world.. Lack of story.. But the breaking of weapons is just a constant grind. Sucked the fun out of the game for me.

Oh, I must have looked at the classic edition. What is the difference between the two?

Yea sorry, BOTW was a total dud for me. Maybe ill pick it up again down the road if I get bored but imo, thats not Zelda game. Not looking for that kind of grind. From what ive read, it gets better after 10-20 hrs. To me, having to wait that long for a game to be good, isnt a good game.

#2951 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

Cases the game comes with. One has like a Sega genesis case for all the games

Oh I see. thanks.

#2961 4 years ago

The original is my favorite. I have always preferred the 2D top down zeldas. I was never got hugely into them later on... Would love to see some of the N64 ones remade...

Ill give it another go down the road...

Would also love to see Goldeneye remade for the N64! (sorry, off topic ha)

#2962 4 years ago

Ive always liked Gamestop.. maybe because I worked there back when it was Funcoland and then merged into Gamestop, or that its one of the few places you can sell and buy used games...

But what are they thinking and how exactly do they feel they are essential? There are a lot of ways they could still be operating, even on the line of curbside pickup with order or simply pushing their online ordering.

I never really understood the hate for the company. From what I gather, most of it comes from people feeling they are getting ripped off on the trade in prices. But to me, its like anything else, if you dont like the deal, dont do it and sell elsewhere. Nobody is forcing you to trade stuff in.

#2964 4 years ago
Quoted from Xenon75:

Gamestop used to be great but the past two years their choice in who they hire has really gone downhill - at least at the one I visit. This store's employees go out of their way to berate your game choices if your preferences differ from theirs. They even berated my kid when he went if for some Fornite stuff, it was really unbelievable and unnecessary.
Also Gamestop is more like a spencers gift store for gamers than a videogame store now. If you don't preorder you can't get a new title on launch day in most cases and you will get berated again for not pre-ordering. You can't find the rare games like you used to, can't get any real recommendations from the employees because they all hate working there, its just not the same place it once was.
That is why I avoid Gamestop now.

Oh wow, thats a change for sure and id agree, those employees sound horrible.

It is certainly a much different store now. Its filled with all sorts of crap now besides games. Back when I worked there, it was mainly just games. People would always come in to chat about the games and we were happy to do that and of course offer recommendations.

For your situation, I would do the same! And to be honest, I dont visit them too often either myself. I feel like an old man going in there these days ha.

#2970 4 years ago
Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Gamestop is in terrible financial trouble, I think because so many people are buying games online, and they have competition from Target, Walmart, etc. That's also why they have all the other crap in there -figures and whatnot. Nobody cares about the artwork or packaging of a game enough to drive out to the store, and hiring jerk employees is only going to make people stop going entirely. Same thing happened with CDs & music stores. I wouldnt' be surprised if Gamestop goes out of business during this shutdown

Yea I hear ya on that. I often visit Best Buy for my purchases as well. But I do like how they trade games. Not sure if they are still doing the older system stuff still..

Personally, I will always buy physical media over digital so I like to see stores staying in business for this. But yes, Gamespot has a lot of competition these days.

#2973 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

They also dumped it used quickly and that is something all gaming companies want to avoid. BOTW did well but telemetry doesn't lie and there was a significant percentage of users with the exact same sentiments as Gamer85. As I clearly stated I didn't believe they should hand hold everyone, but they should have detected the users that where just aimlessly wandering around the starting area and did something to crank up the engagement and push them forward. The rest of BOTW did a really good job with the dynamic AI and it was a nice even ramp until you started bitch slapping the Lynels. Then it pretty much fell apart.

I think this was mainly my problem. Most open world games will give you bit of direction at first and then let you go off. For me, it was a bit aimless, no information on weapons and such, so I was faced with enemies and no weapon at all. I still am not a fan of the weapons breaking like that... I still had the question of what to do when a weapon breaks and you dont have another one. Seemed the answer was just run away. So running away from enemies until I find a weapon that will break very shortly after and then having to repeat that cycle seemed not fun in the least.

Obviously from reading on here, seems i was playing it wrong I guess.

#2976 4 years ago
Quoted from maffewl:

What's crazy about BOTW to me is that I have always hated open-world/RPG type games. I'm more of the "look, a bunch of enemies (charge into them head first)" FPS type guy. Before BOTW, Goldeneye was my favorite game of all-time. I hated Ocarina of Time. Can't remember much about it, but I remember not liking it at all. I can see how BOTW seems slow at first, but once you get past the initial opening land area (I forget the name), holy-cow. I also absolutely loved the puzzle shrines. I couldn't, and still can't, get enough of those. I've almost 100%'d the game, and am still playing a few hours a week to just try to find the last 4 shrines. That said, I can understand the sentiments that some don't want to put hours into a game to determine if they will like it moving forward, but this one is definitely worth it. The first few hours are somewhat of a grind, but the gameplay rewards you for staying with it.

Ugghhh, I sold my game and now im feeling that I need to give it another chance.

But first, I am going to play Link's Awakening. I love the visuals on that but hate the blur!

#2978 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

That blur drove me crazy too, but I did eventually get over it and enjoy the game. BOTW is the better game and once you get rolling you will spend way more time just adventuring, it really is a masterpiece. Link's Awakening is a really great gameboy game with a little polish sold at full console game price. You should be able to score it used for the right value. It was not worth the launch sticker price compared to other games of that price point.

Ive always loved the 2D Zelda games and I hope for more of them in the future. I already have it but didnt pay full price.

#2979 4 years ago

On another note.. Can they please release something similar to Wii Bowling!!??

#2985 4 years ago
Quoted from maffewl:

Anyone have any recommendations on a game that is similar to BOTW in terms of open world and puzzle dungeons? I'm trying to find something to hold me over until BOTW2. For reference, I'm not a fan of the anime style games. Is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim close?

Skyrim doesnt have puzzles like that really.

Guys, if you have never played Skyrim, you are really missing out. One of the best games ever made.

Witcher 3 is pretty good also. To my memory, it doesnt have puzzles really either.

#2992 4 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

is there a switch shortage now too? I would think any of these stores: target, walmart, bestbuy, gamestop...

Yes, its been on the news that there are shortages and pricing is going up.

#2993 4 years ago

I just ordered Shadowgate and RealMYST from Limited Run Games.

Excited for those...

#3002 4 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

Is the normal price $400+ on these? There are several on ebay right now at that price.

No, they are $299. Or were. but ive heard prices are going up.

#3023 4 years ago
Quoted from sjf2112:

Thanks. I'm going to buy another set of nintendo joycons. I haven't purchased a game system since N64. They used to come with two controllers and a game, now a second controller costs 1/3 the price of the system.

I agree with buying the Pro Controller. The feel is very good and I like the larger buttons vs. the joycons. My one gripe with buying new Joycons, is that the "holder" for them to act as a controller is another $25. So that makes getting another controller (using joycons) over $100.

#3024 4 years ago
Quoted from mystman12:

Let us know how realMyst plays on Switch. I'm a huge Myst series fan (Hence the name) but I have no desire to play the games with a controller. I know the PC version also isn't very easy to run, I can't imagine it performing very well on Switch.

Will do. Its going to be a while before I get it since I ordered along with Shadowgate.

I have realMyst on ipad and its done pretty well.

Controller could be annoying but I was mainly thinking Myst portable would be good to have.

#3029 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

the one that comes with the switch is not as good as that one, but I still don't like the joycons for serious gaming. the pro controller or knock offs are worth it. You can even get a module that allows a ps4 or xbox 1 controller to sync with the switch.

I didnt realize the Switch came with anything besides the Joycons?

If anyone is done with Links Awakening and wants to sell. Shoot me a PM.

Im playing it now and its great. Unfortunately for you I wont be done with it anytime soon ha.

Some decent deals on ebay.. example:

ebay.com link: The legend of zelda links awakening nintendo switch

Ignore that last one, I thought it was "buy now". I drained the post.

#3043 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

No, I mean the joycon holder that makes it seem like a controller.
Stock one:
[quoted image]
This one allows you to plug in and charge the joycons without taking them out of the holder
[quoted image]

Interesting, I did not know that.

Just $25 bucks for the holder I still think is too much.

Quoted from adol75:

It got me very frustrated to the point that I ended up giving up. Too bad you can’t resell eshop games I would have been happy to get 5$ back.

Thats exactly why im big into physical media..

#3079 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

F me..... well I just beat it and the only missions I didn’t complete were in the arcade. Fantastic game. Hope they make a sequel!

What kind of game is that exactly? Is it a puzzle game?

#3080 4 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

Just checked out some reviews on Bubble Bobble and looks exactly what I was expecting. Great for family fun, a great take of the original. Not really aimed for hardcore gamers or people that play splatoon all day (guilty). But, to play with the wife and kids - should be perfect. Unfortunately, Best buy is behind on getting us 2 new controllers so we have 4 controllers - Their ETA deliver of today just got pushed to end of next week =\

I just watched a video of Bubble Bobble 4 and it looks great!

#3082 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

They were calling it a puzzle chill/couch zelda like game. No weapons but you do have boss fights. Cleaver puzzles and no help, so like an old school zelda.

I'm trying to see how many hours I played it, but can't see it on the switch because I just played and it said I played 4 days ago or whatever instead of hrs played.

Very interesting. Might have to pick this up.

#3083 4 years ago

So my wife isnt into games much but has always liked simple puzzle games like Tetris. The problem I see is a lot of these games are head to head with other players or the computer. She doesnt like that. She likes original Tetris and similar. Been looking for something like that to get her.

Anyone have any suggestions? I saw Lumines but wasnt sure if any others..

#3085 4 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

We just bought Box Align and Watermelon Party for wife/kids. They still might be on sale.

Ill check em out. Thanks.

Lumines!
you may still be able to get the limited run games physical version from best buy

Ill look into that. Thanks!

Showed my wife a video of Box Align and she got excited! haha. Its $0.19 on the eshop. Perfect! Thanks for the suggestion.

#3089 4 years ago

I have another question maybe you guys can help with. I have a couple of games, such as Puzzle Bobble and this Photo Hunt game and they will not save high scores. Any way to have it save them?

#3093 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Tetris 99 has a single player mode, but you have to pay for it.

Oh really? I wasnt aware that it had a single player mode. Thanks.

#3096 4 years ago
Quoted from Bospins:

didn't read this whole thread, but I'm hoping for some advice -
I have a switch (my son's really) and my buddy (also a fellow pinsider) has all the consoles.
What's a good game for me and my bud to play together?
I know you probably need more info for a recco but let's leave it wide open and see what comes back!
I'll just note I've been playing games since i was like 5 starting with the atari 2600 so, not a n00b.

Diablo 3 would be a fun one to play with friends.

#3097 4 years ago

I also like Mario Party. essentially a board game with mini games.

#3118 4 years ago

I bought Lumines last night to try out as it has high recommendations. At first, I hate it but after a few plays, wow, addicting!!

But I really am not very good. Any hints or tips besides the obvious? On the challenge mode (I think it is), where you are to get to lvl 100.. wow, can anyone actually do that?? I think ive gotten to level 6 and that was a struggle.

#3122 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

I think I got to 80 or 90-something. Not sure I have any tips tho. Just learn how to play fast & figure out how to make bigger blocks of the same color so they get “swept” away constantly. Just keep that screen as clutter free as possible. You’ll get into the groove eventually!

Quoted from InfiniteLives:

yeah its hard to give tips on lumines... just use the "time line" to your benefit, depending on if you want to clear the blocks before it gets to your spot or if you want to try and line em up after it passes to build up more blocks to clear. also, setting up when you can collect all the same color that are connected, you can make some good space with those pieces.

Thanks. I think it will just take some practice. But man, I dont think ive been addicted to a puzzle game like this in decades!

Cool! I was hoping Zen would release a Pinball Labo. That would be awesome to make a cardboard pinball cabinet for Switch!

I posted this a little while ago.. kind of cool..
