Im kinda lost in this game. I dont feel like I know what I am doing other than scavenging and such. I have barely done any quests, lol. I still havent found Hestu either. I have like 80 korok seeds.
Been thinking about cracking open a game I havent yet. Maybe Huntdown?

You can always follow the main story quests if you’re lost

Do you like other sandbox games? Grand Theft Auto etc? Maybe the genre just isn’t for you.

I started playing TOTK this past weekend again but have put it back down for Baldur's Gate 3. I don't know if that will be coming to the switch eventually or not, but it's really good.

Yeah it is. So far it’s confirmed to be coming to PS5 in September, haven’t heard about Switch or Xbox. I don’t love PC gaming, but for this one it’s totally worth it - I played the original games growing up and really enjoyed them, BG3 takes it all to the next level.

Don’t know about a Switch version of Baldur’s Gate 3, but they’re working on it for Xbox. Issue is they have to gimp it to play on the Series S which is apparently a nightmare for this game. No firm timeline but they’re estimating four months after the PS5 release.

Yeah they should be able to do it. I am running it on my Steam Deck a lot of the time and it doesn't look amazing it definitely runs on there. Series S should be able to at the very least handle it at 30 fps and look good.

Apparently it’s split-screen multiplayer that’s causing the problem — effectively running two versions of the game at once so probably challenging. MS insists that all features be available on all versions of the Xbox, so nothing can happen until they figure it out for the Series S.

I’m not complaining about split screen, I think it’s sad how few games offer it anymore (I guess the kids don’t like to be in the same room together while playing). Just a bummer MS can’t let them drop a feature if it won’t work on the lower tier hardware.

Split screen was great. I remember taping a cardboard divider to my uncles TV to play goldeneye with my cousins and prevent screen peeks. He was thrilled when he got home from work.

Ah, that makes sense. Forgot about the split screen.

That reminds me - we used to take clear tape and draw a mustache on it, stick it to the TV, and crack up hilariously whenever some actor or actress lined up perfectly with the 'stache. Give it a try sometime, still funny to this day.

Huntdown is amazing. Played through it several times at this point. TOTK is awesome too - focus on doing shrines. You get a nice sense of accomplishment from solving those and a good reward (health/stamina) that makes exploring a lot more efficient and fun.

Ya, Im up to like 80 shrines right now. Its fine...im just not as sucked in as I was with BOTW. It just feels like DLC. Im ready for a NEW game I guess.

I hear you there, as much as I like BOTW and TOTK, I think I'd actually prefer a more traditional Zelda for the next one - new environment, new art style, new mechanics, more comprehensive story. I can appreciate the revolutionary aspect of BOTW, TOTK is a refinement of the formula (tbh - I left off about the same, 80-90 shrines done, wandering around doing random stuff, dropped it and cut over to Jedi Survivor, FFXVI, and a few others, will get back to TOTK later on - did the same thing with BTOW, put about 20-30 hours in, took a break, came back - slowly finished it over the course of a year or so).

Given the sales numbers, hard to imagine they’ll drop this format so long as Fujibayashi is still on board.

They issued a statement specifically saying that "this is the format for Zelda going forward." Until it isn't, I guess. I do agree the story takes a bit of a back seat in this game, but it makes it no less compelling IMO. There's also only so many times they can tell basically the same story "Ganon destroys Hyrule, Zelda is lost/sleeping/travelling through time, Link saves the day". I wouldn't mind a re-telling of say LTTP expanded out and perhaps from some different perspective - or hell, a hybrid of Ocarina and one of the other games, where you can experience that other game and see changes in the future as you make decisions in the past.

I miss top down zeldas. A Link between worlds was a masterpiece.

I like both botw and totk but I'd prefer a top down one again.

Weird that both botw and totk don't have the tri force involved in the story

I don’t think the next one will be built on this world & story. I think it’ll be big and open world, but they’ll go for something totally new and unique.

As for TOTK, I think I might actually like BOTW more. The exploration felt more interesting. Rather than traversing the land and finding things organically, in TOTK I find myself warping around a lot, or going up to the sky and then diving to where I want to go. Feels a bit more like I’m checking off boxes than being one with the world. Building things is neat, but I haven’t gotten super into it like some people did. I haven’t made any mecha robots yet. I’m at the point where I could go fight Ganon, but I’m just doing side quests right now.

I could have written this exact post. Have basically everything for Ganon but I feel like I'm getting my ass kicked too frequently still. I have the maxed out regular armor, and the mad god armor or whatever it's called, but still keep getting run over by Gleeoks.

I do think TOTK is the superior game, but I think a lot of people are saying BOTW did have a more engaging story. I bought Xenoblade 3 the same day as TOTK.. I think Ive played that for about 2 hours, tops. And that has a MUCH more deep story. But JRPGs can be a little dull at the beginning, whereas TOTK did a great job pulling you in quickly.

Xenoblade 3 does start off a bit slow but is a very rewarding story overall - as with many JRPGs there is a bit of convoluted stuff in there, but so many really amazing moments. One of my favorites (along with the other two). Definitely get back to it at some point!

I hear ya!! I’m so early in the game there’s not much happening yet

Disney Illusion Island recently came out. It's a metroidvania with 4 player couch co-op. I have purchased it, but not played yet. It's supposed to be good for families and players of mixed skills. You can assist less skilled players by teleporting them or dropping a rope, etc. I'm looking forward to it.

Any one notice how cheap you can get switch lites now?

I bought a blue one cib almost brand new for $140.

I then bought a loose yellow with an official chatger for $80. Super clean.

Hoping I can get the guts to mod them one day.

you see the consolize mod?

Oh if a switch lite is that cheap..I'd get one for the kids and not even worry. I forgot what family mode can do for sharing digital but I'm 99% physical.

YES MARIO!

Seriously! This year has been pretty cool for games and the mario rpg remake comes out before we know it and I am thinking I would rather spend the money on that not on sale. Wonder seems pretty cool and everything just really wish there was a local place I could rent games from. Feel like a week or two of Wonder might be enough to scratch that itch or at least clue me in to knowing if owning it is worthwhile.

Worth checking your local library, our system carries switch games (and I always forget to take advantage of that).

I'm a sucker for preorder bonuses so i got mario wonder with the trading cards from walmart.

#4387 54 days ago

I bought Wonder digital, cuz why not. I wanna play it Thursday night at 9pm PST as soon as it goes live, and I never sell Mario games - might as well just have it on my system.

I finished the new Sonic Superstars I enjoyed it i grew up with Sonic on the Genesis so 2d Sonic is nostalgic. Final boss was a bitch took me forever to figure out how to beat him.

#4389 53 days ago

I'm ready for Mario Wonder it will be delivered tomorrow morning. I haven't watched any of the reviews I like going in blind like i did with the NES games before the internet.

Just joined the club with an OLED model. Having a lot of fun so far.

Back in the day, the favorite Wii games of my wife and I were Boom Blox and Boom Blox Bash Party. We love physics puzzlers. Any recommendations on similar games available on Switch?

Thanks,
EV

I’ve been playing it. It feels like an evolution on the traditional Mario 2D side scrollers, although my positive feelings may come from it having a cooperative “little buddy” mode with two joycons on a single console, so my Mario-obsessed three year old has joined me as a Yoshi. It’s the first time we’ve gamed together, and is a little bit of magic

Mario wonder is great! been having fun on my own and also with my kids. However my daughter wants to play as peach so I play yoshi and then if it gets too hard I just have her jump on my back and get through the hard parts/level. I kinda....want a mario kids...where every level is just easy. Maybe mario maker and make my own? but I would love to set my kids up and so they can play w/o being stuck.

Tangentially related to the Switch, Valve announced an OLED model of the Steam Deck today that launches next week. I am a sucker for OLED displays so I am selling my 512gb Steam Deck.

If you are interested, HMU

Switch emulation works really well fwiw

we ordered the deckHD displays back when they were initially offered (and are still awaiting them). valve's announcement was kind of a punch to the gut for those of us that went that upgrade route.

oof, yeah that does suck. The resolution has never really been an issue for me, but playing my SD after playing my OLED Switch really makes me want an OLED SD. The larger size is a plus too, not that it is a lot, but the bigger the better for my terrible eyesight.
