Should I get Nintendo branded Joy Cons or do you recommend an aftermarket set?

I didn't even realize there were 3rd party joycons available. I see there is one that has GC like buttons. Very interesting!

Yes pretty much all the joy cons will have that drift issue sooner or later.

I’ve had 8 Joy Cons for 3 years (I like all the colors lol) & none have drift problems.

I did however have an issue where the “nub” on a few Joy Cons that locks onto the Switch wore down & they would slide off easily. I got a cheap repair kit online with metal replacement nubs, and now they lock in great.

#3254 50 days ago

Anyone know of a source that sells the OEM Joycons for normal prices? I've been wanting to pickup a second set but prices seem outrageous right now.

You're lucky! My OG set that I've had for only about 1.5 years started seeing drift a while ago. I replaced it, which isn't a big deal at all. Remember to recalibrate it afterwards!

Send me a pair ! I have 6 joy cons all of them had drift issues.
At some points I thought it was because the kids were mistreating them so I kept a pair of myself, but no luck either.

But at 5$ a replacement stick and 10 minutes of work I start seeing the job like pinball maintenance.

#3258 50 days ago

Where is the drift originating from and why does replacing the stick resolve it?

Did you recalibrate the controllers after replacing them?

#3260 50 days ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

Did you recalibrate the controllers after replacing them?

Yes, I always try to recalibrate before replacing them and I do it after too. I don't have any issue with the pro controller so it's the one I end up using the most it's just not as comfy in portable mode.

Quoted from Xenon75:

Where is the drift originating from and why does replacing the stick resolve it?

It's a hardware issue that's been happening since day 1, Nintendo hasn't managed to resolve it, even on the V2 and one the light so it must be deeper than that.

They fix joy cons for free now that's the only remedy they offer, so the alternate option if you don't want to wait is to buy replacement kits on Amazon and do it yourself.

Always interesting what Google recommends for me based on their algorithm.

We have a few Joy Cons with stick drift.

I paid $16 on Amazon for two new sticks and a little tool package to replace them. The first stick seemed to be defective but the second one appears to have fixed the drift.

I updated and calibrated after swapping the sticks out.

First time it took me 25 minutes with the YouTube video. Second time took 10 minutes with no video. I'll be buying more sticks, seems like a reliable and easy fix.

#3264 44 days ago

I murdered a joycon trying to fix it. I was trying to be careful with the ribbon cable but ended up knocking a half off the table or something and ruined it.

I am selling my beautiful modded custom firmware Switch if anyone is looking for a system loaded with games. Send me a message if interested. I just listed it on Facebook marketplace. I am just not playing it much since getting pins again and looking for money to put into them.

It will be free. Can try it.

#3269 36 days ago

If anyone was a big fan of Ori on the switch, they just discounted the sequel $6 on PC to $23.99. It's going to be weird getting used to different controls but I didn't want to have to wait for some possible port to switch 4 years from now like the original. Plus I had to have something that at least used some of the capacity of my new GeForce RTX 2080 Super...

I bought my daughter a mario cart console combo for christmas. It was 350. now I want to get a console for my son why are the 500+??

Quoted from Pinstein:

Because there is a shortage on switch supply and scalpers are out to make money. Just wait a bit and stock will come back at the regular price.

Find a nice modded console with custom firmware. If you don’t care about playing online, then you can play every game that your heart desires.

Why would you ever get extra joy cons over a pro controller? Forget price.

You can't play some games without joycons. The only one I know of is mario party, not sure if there are more. That one forces you to use an individual joycon, which my man-sized hands despise.

ARMS! Really fun game. Underrated in my opinion.

Best fighting game since the 90’s, IMO. Unbelievably unique, fun, and the Joy-Con controls are wild, responsive and intuitive once you get the hang of it. It’s like fighting with a marionette. Amazing animation & music.

Bloodstained:Ritual of the Night, Timespinners, and The Messenger are 3 really good Metroidvania type games. Highly recommend all 3.

if your into DnD turn style play and want something fun to play with the family check out For the King. I originally bought it for PC and we sunk over 100 hrs in couch co-op and online co op then repurchased it for the Switch., My kids and I love it. Its turn based combat in DnD style , with a board game over world. The mechanics are extremely deep. and the unlockable lore is a great way to ensure future repeatability. Its rougelike as well so once you fail or win the game you start over. It comes with all 5 expansion packs too.

#3283 34 days ago

For the King is very good.

#3284 34 days ago

For the King is half off at the moment (Nintendo store). For $12.50, it seemed like a good bet. Thanks for the recommendations.

I need to buy a second switch or maybe a third one ! My 2 kids are hooked up to Animal Crossing, they fight to play it and I haven't touched my Switch for 3 weeks.

If that's not worth 600$ I'll be damned !

#3286 33 days ago

Clubhouse games is a good way to kill time. I’ve just been playing that Animal Crossing and a lot of PSVR games. I wish Nintendo would announce a VR add on to the switch.

We got them a second one this past Christmas. It became impossible to regulate just one.

Both kids and I are playing Animal Crossing. My son's mistake was saying he didn't want to play and that i could create the island. Now he's living on it.

My wife is bemused about the whole thing, especially when we're discussing the Stalk Market prices.

Bought Rocket League on sale at Best Buy for $19.99. One of the best games for Switch IMO, lots of technique and I enjoy playing both the Hockey and Soccer with my son. -Good times

Rocket League is the best game ever created. Unfortunately the Switch version is really bad compared to pc,Xbox or ps4.

a little birdie told me that nintendo might be working with a u.s. based company with some state of the art VR/AR technology

I own an oculus. It's really cool. I played it quite a bit for the first month or so. It's also kind of fatiguing (especially with text) and a little bit of a hassle. I use it only for sim racing at the moment.

Luckys Tale is the title that made me realize nintendo may eventually enter the arena. Platforming in vr definitely has potential.

Yeah lots of games on my list are on sale - but they’re not cheap enough to buy ‘n backlog. I might bite on Mark of the Ninja Remastered for $5 tho.

VR is awesome. That said, it doesn't have the staying power with most people unless you have a specific use case. Outside of Half Life Alyx, the games are all pretty short and don't really take a time commitment. I use my Index for sim racing and have over 1000 hours on it, but only about 10 hours outside of sim racing with a dozen different games. Most of that extra time is beat saber.

As for the Switch, I can't see it really being powerful enough to provide any kind of meaningful VR experience. I have a monster PC and it still struggles with VR in certain titles.

The Switch Labo VR is pretty interesting & immersive ...but it KILLS my eyes after about 5 minuted & leaves them feeling stressed. Not sure if it’s a “me” thing or what.
