Dang, Starlink dropped again - it's $30 on Amazon!!! That's worth it just for the rad Starfox Arwing ship!!! ...but the game is actually really cool, too!

#1667 5 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

I think the whole "toys to life" genre is finally dead, Ubi soft missed the target by like 3 years.

Totally...but as a Starfox fan, it's a pretty sweet game featuring Starfox & crew, and the Arwing ship is really nice. You don't need any of the toys to enjoy the game, so that's good....and you don't even need the toys to PLAY the game. The now $30 kit includes the Arwing, another ship, 2 pilots, 2 weapons (plus the Arwing lasers if those 2 are disconnected) all digitally.

A bunch of the toys are already half off on Amazon. I figure I'll get them when they're dirt cheap like Skylanders just to unlock a few more things. Or maybe the DLC digital versions will get cheap, but based on Ubisoft's record so far, they're shitty about putting DLC on sale.

#1673 5 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

my smash bros has shipped! hopefully it will be in my mail box when i get off work on friday at 5.

I have it on order - but I buckled and bought the digital ultimate version since I know I’ll end up getting all the dlc anyway.

#1724 5 years ago

Warning: Sega Genesis Classics Collection kinda sucks. The lag makes the action games unplayable. It also seems like many games are running slow as well. Too many good retro & retro style games to deal with that bullshit.

#1726 5 years ago
Quoted from V_piscopo:

Anyone elts having issues with smash online being super laggy?

Yeah, kinda shocking. Mario Kart, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 run perfectly smooth online.

#1740 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Where is all the Smash Brothers hype? I thought this thread would be on fire once that game came out?

Too busy playing.

Also, remember to fire up Splatoon 2 for the Smash themed Splatfest on Saturday! Heroes Vs. Villains!!!!

#1743 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

I cant get into Splatoon Rarehero. I may trade it in on Smash Brothers maybe? Cant decide what im gonna do yet.

Well, everyone else who loves the best game ever - get in on that Splatfest!!

#1745 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Best game ever? Lol...no way. You should pick up Diablo 3 if you haven't played it yet, its awesome.

Nah, I don’t play dark and dingy looking ugly PC games. If you can’t get into the competitive & colorful nature of Splatoon, you may not like Smash either. It’s a very technical and precise competitive game.

#1747 5 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Diablo is far from ugly, its quite the opposite actually. I figure if i traded splatoon for smash and i didnt like it that im in the same boat as i was so what the heck? It would just be another game that i dont play so id be no worse off with smash bros than i am with splatoon.

Too each their own. I don’t like generic looking dark games. To me they’re ugly.

#1752 5 years ago

Team Villain crushed the Smash Splatfest!!! Woooo!

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Also, what’s the consensus on joysticks. I got 2 pro controllers to go with the console but are joycons where they’re at? Will I want the pro controller being a bit older...err wiser

I use the Pro when I'm at home for the most part. I like playing ARMS with motion controls, so that's a Joy-Con in each fist.

You need to connect the Joy-Cons for handheld on the go play.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Got a switch for me and my 6 year old for Xmas coming. Any recommendations on memory card? Will the 32gb internal memory suffice for a few games before we really start downloading more? I was thinking a 256gb stick once we get rolling after a month or so.

If you plan on buying mostly digital, get a decent sized MicroSD. I started with a 128, but recently upgraded to 256....I buy a lot of games though - 128 should be fine...more than fine if you're buying games on cartridges.

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Games I want:
Splatoon 2 (is there a better co op mode in this game so my son can play? Part 1 sucked for two player)

Splatoon 2 is an online multiplayer game, it's not couch co-op at all. It's either 4 vs. 4 in various competition modes, or 4 together in Salmon Run.

If you wanna play in online battles with your kiddo, you'll each need to be on your own Switch.

It has a great fun single player mode & another one in the optional Octo Expansion.

I can't wait to see you on the Splattlefield!!!

Quoted from PtownPin:

Getting the switch for the kids for xmas (10, 12)....aside from the Mario games any suggestions on great games for the kids?

Splatoon 2 if they wanna play an online competitive game.

ARMS if they wanna play a "non-violent" multiplayer fighting game with each other (up to 4p split screen) or online (together or solo).

Zelda Breath of the Wild is an incredible adventure if they want something a bit more in depth.

Really anything by Nintendo themselves is going to be quality!

Highly recommend Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom. Incredible side scrolling platformer/quest/adventure game with brilliant hand drawn art and animation. It's flying under the radar right now as it was released right before Smash.

Katamari Damacy is a lot of fun if they like something weird and lighthearted.

Rayman Legends is an amazing platformer with great art. That one's got multiplayer as well.

#1783 5 years ago
Quoted from tomdotcom:

Thanks for the heads up on, Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom, never knew.

Not sure why someone would give you a downvote for this...buuuut anyway, Monster Boy is an awesome all new Wonder Boy in Monsterland sequel. I'm about 5 hrs into it, just totally gorgeous and fun with excellent music.

#1786 5 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I also have a strong gaming PC. It's cool, and I can't believe the types of things it can do (like VR, etc), but I find myself leaning toward consoles for almost all gaming these days. I use my xbone and switch about 10x more than my gaming PC. I find the experience more enjoyable in general - it allows me to play against friends that are scared away by the entry point of a decent gaming rig, and the experience is pretty seamless. The ability to take the switch on the road is a huge selling point for me. I make a lot of overnight trips to see my family and the in-laws, the ability to bring some really solid games with me is awesome.

PC's are for porn and email. Consoles is where it's at for fun gaming!

#1788 5 years ago

The Zaccaria Pinball app just got an update! It has screen rotation now for vertical play! It's free to download and has some freebie play. Currently you can get all 27 "Retro" tables for $1! Hopefully the other table styles will go on sale...the Retro ones are all EM style...I like the Remake ones - all DMD style!

#1790 5 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

Is it as freaking hard as wonder boy?

It’s challenging, but it has reasonable checkpoints & a Super Metroid type map.

#1793 5 years ago
Quoted from RVApinballer:

Emulate the Switch, doesn't that kinda defeat the whole purpose of the console?

...and that's why Nintendo is brilliant to release systems with unique concepts, and not just "another game box". It's more than the games, you want the experience of the console concept. I'm sure you can emulate 3DS, but you can't actually play in 3D unless you're using a real 3DS.

#1796 5 years ago
Quoted from Pinballerchef:

The only caveat is that you have to own the SS tables of those remakes...as I just found out.
Williams pack 2 is available as well....attack!!

I might wait for a sale on that one. A bit miffed about the B/W censorship by Zen...and I have too much backlog to play right now anyway.

#1812 5 years ago

There are over 450 games on sale on the eShop right now!!! Holy crap, so much good stuff under $10!!!! I’m glad I waited a few weeks, Ms. Splosion Man is $8.99!

#1820 5 years ago

Here's a list of excellent games that are on sale right now! These games are awesome and cheap AF!!!

Shantae & the Pirates Curse $12.99 - Amazing platformer/adventure game in a retro style
Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero $9.99 - Amazing sequel with a beautiful hand drawn modern HD style
Mummy Demastered $12.99 - A great Metroid-type game by the Shantae team, with a 16-bit style
Pan-Pan $3 - A cute little adventure puzzle game...totally worth 3 bucks.
Slime San $7.19 - A hardcore platformer like Meatboy with a retro gameboy type aesthetic
Ms. Splosion Man $8.99 - Fantastic action platformer, originally on Xbox360 but upgraded to 60fps on Switch
Axiom Verge $9.99 - Wonderful Metroid-style game with excellent music & really cool weapons
Lumines $9.74 - A musical puzzle game originally on PSP with great music and new HD graphcis and HD rumble
Pool Panic $7.49 - A very silly cartoony billiards game where the balls are all characters.
Thumper $7.99 - A really weird hardcore rhythm game.
Bulb Boy $1.79 - A bit of a point 'n click puzzle interactive cartoon. Excellent artwork and style...totally worth this price.
The Way Remastered .99 - A really cool retro-styled action/adventure/puzzle game like Another World and Flashback
Yoku’s Island Express $9.99 - A great pinball/platformer Metroid-style game
Bomb Chicken $10.49 - A really funny retro-styled platformer with great sprite animation.
RIVE $7.49 - An amazing shoot 'em up that's a real love letter to the genre. Funny, unique, amazing visuals.

Quoted from RVApinballer:

Thanks for the breakdown rarehero. I miss out on a lot of these games because I don't hang out on the eshop or follow a lot of the indie releases.

Sure! Cuz I’m a cheap game addict, I bought one more lol - Crossing Souls for $7.50. It’s kinda like Stand By Me/Goonies/Stranger Things as a retro styled overhead Zelda type game. Takes place in the 80’s and full of every reference you can think of. Even the score is Spielbergian. I’ve only played it for a few hours but I like it so far.

#1827 5 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

Hollow knight is on sale for $10. I haven't played it yet, but it gets pretty great reviews.

It’s great - I need to get back to it and try to finish it. The game seems endless. I got to a really hard boss & gave it a break for a while. I’ve got 15 hrs into it...I’ve seen some friends put like 100 hrs into it!!!

#1833 5 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

So splatoon 2. Is there no more using the game console as a map and touch-ink strike or jump?

Wii U used the controller for the map, not the console. Switch is a single-screen system....the screen IS the system.

Use X button to bring up the map & motion aim to pick who you want to superjump to & hit jump.

Ink strike isn’t in Splatoon 2 - there are tons of new specials. Spashdown is my favorite & you can combine with with superjump to really F up players who are camping at your landing spot.

#1836 5 years ago
Quoted from j_m_:

your son told me that you need to get another gamecube adapter and 4 more gamecube controllers for 8-player battles!

LOL or just use Joy Cons & Pro controllers. I don’t get the GameCube thing. Plays fine with Switch’s controllers

#1839 5 years ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

Nah. GameCube controllers are superior. Do you honestly think Nintendo would still be making these controllers 17 years after their introduction if their wasn’t demand for them? Demand drives their use.[quoted image]

I just don’t see the point if it. I can play Smash with Wii U controllers, on a 3DS, and on Switch. All the buttons you need are there. The sticks are fine. I understand why people want to use arcade sticks for SF2, I don’t get why the GC controller does anything special for Smash gameplay. Oh well, I’m just glad I don’t have to buy a bunch of new controllers lol.

#1840 5 years ago

Eskaybee & I are murder/suiciding each other in Splatoon 2

#1846 5 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

Agree. I thought I could get by with the pro controller, but playing for a couple of days, I really miss the jump buttons of the GC controller. Jumping is critical in that game, and the transition for me just feels a little too sloppy right now.

I don’t get it. All the buttons are right next to each other. Why is it harder to move your thumb?

I’ve never quite understood Smash’s controls in general. In order to play OK, I change it so B is jump & Y is attack, as that feels more like traditional action/platformer controls.

#1848 5 years ago

When me & Eskaybee are on the same team....LOOK OUT!!! We splatyoo!!!

Quoted from Pinballerchef:

Tried the PSVR yet? You may never leave home

No, I don’t like VR. I don’t want shit strapped to my face.

#1855 5 years ago
Quoted from Pinballerchef:

Once you are immersed into a game the headset becomes another peripheral.....Astrobot is fun from start to finish but I see where people don’t want to wear something.
Did you ever play around with the Nintendo virtual boy?

I stuck my face in it for 2 seconds. That was enough. I like my video games with peripheral vision of reality. Everyone who loves VR tried to pitch it with religious fervor. I just don’t wanna bother with it.

#1858 5 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

Kinda like you and Splatoon 2

This is a Switch thread. Splatoon is relevant.

VR is not. Anywhere. Ask Ben Heck lol

#1860 5 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

The primary attack is the A button. You can quickly roll your thumb to the side to hit the jump button on the GC controller. Those buttons also have a unique shape that's easier to feel. I like that all the buttons have a unique shape, now that I think of it.

That makes sense if you played a lot of Smash w that controller. Since I was into Capcom & Sega fighters back then, the different shapes didn’t make sense for most fighting game players. I’ve stopped trying to think of Smash as a fighting game since it doesn’t really play like one...I’ve enjoyed it much more since changing B to jump and Y to attack. Now it feels like a regular platform/action game. My brain & finger instinctively know what to do with that layout.

Quoted from djreddog:

I think I'm going to install RetroArch on my daughter's switch this weekend. Has anyone else already done this? Anything I should be aware of?

Bricked and banned. Just do that in a NES Classic or something without online functions.

Quoted from Jgel:

Just finished Mario Odyssey last night. Pretty good. It's impressive how they can still make a Mario game feel fresh and new. Not sure what to move on to next. Might just wait for the new Mario next week or try the PS4 Spider-Man game?

Did you play/finish Zelda Breath of the Wild? If not, do that next!

Spider-Man PS4 is awesome, too. I’m on the last DLC right now.

Yeah, he looks like a Playmobile or Lego toy or something...I'm not sure why they went with this style. It's a little bit like Link Between Worlds...so I wonder if they started the development on 3DS & ported it mid development.

ToeJam and Earl : Back in the Groove for switch preorders up at Limited Run Games

Is this the first time they’ve released a game before it came out or has been reviewed? Very shady. The game looks horrible - and I feel like they’re trying to pre-sell this on nostalgia and name recognition. I love the first 3 (yes even the 3rd), and the sloppy Flash-style animation just looks like trash.

I’ll just wait till it comes out...and if it turns out halfway decent, I’ll pick it up on he eShop when it’s on sale for $5 lol.

Quoted from timtim:

ko sends garbage to players close to topping out
attackers sends it to people attacking you
badges goes after most badges but that's probably at top level player
and random is that
plus if you are in handheld you can just touch which ever one you want to send garbage.
this is how much garbage is sent out. the number is lines sent
Single 0
Double 1
Triple 2
Tetris 4
T-Spin Single 2
T-Spin Double 4
T-Spin Triple 6
Back-to-Back Bonus +1
if I have a good bag of pieces at the start ill do a t-spin double to a t-spin triple and that sends a total of 11 lines
or perfect clear and send 7, I think.
There are different openings to use like chess
Sorry I play lots of tetris and know the ins and outs.

Wish I could get a handle on the T-Spin thing. I’ve played for almost 10 hours and have done it once by accident lol. I watched a guy streaming with 85 wins - and it was just non stop t-spins without even thinking...I’ve tried to set it up and do it and I just can’t figure it out.

There's a good t-spin tutorial on youtube in 2 parts, it covers how you should be looking to set it up (including triples).

Fine let's put it back on topic. I wish Nintendo managed to reach the same level of screen quality that the PS Vita has, it's the one drawback I have the switch although not as bad as the one of the Wii U, it still painful to watch.

ToeJam and Earl: back in the groove
Has released today!
I’m excited, I kickstarted it, and love the original from the sega genesis

I loved the first 3 (yes, even the third). Bought every single one on launch day! ....buuuuuut, Back in the Groove just looks like trash. I would have rather have had a port of TJ&E3....that game is 17 years old and looks so much better. I love hand drawn animation, but the new TJ&E has embarrassing art and animation...floaty jointed Flash-style - it just looks ugly and amateurish. When you've got modern hand drawn games that are beautifully animated like Wonderboy: The Dragons Trap, Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom, and Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero, this is just unacceptable. There are even tons of retro style games with beautiful animation that puts Back in the Groove to shame (Gungeon, Owlboy, Flinthook, Bomb Chicken). This game is a total misfire...I'm hard passing on it.

This game came out today, too...looks awesome!

#1992 5 years ago
Quoted from Chosen_S:

I had this same feeling when all of the trailers hit... just played for 30 minutes and closed it out, what a disappointment, the first version is still the best in my opinion. I supported the game from the beginning, I hope the creator begins to see the mistake and gets to work to fix it... it’s like clip art, cruddy junk ware clip art

Oooph, Sorry!!! I love all 3...I find it weird that the games creator is always apologizing for 2 and 3. 2 was an amazing take on the original concept in a side scroller. Amazing graphics, color and music. 3 was a really good “3D” take on the original, with great animation & funny voices. I still love the character selection screen rap intros.

Too bad they didn’t just use 3’s engine and use cel shading for a more cartoony look instead of the Flash clipart thing.

#1995 5 years ago
Quoted from timtim:

4 days till Cuphead! Who's stoked? I am!

I’m so stoked - but trying to decide if I wanna buy digital or wait for physical. I’ve been waiting so long I should prob just buy digital.

#2047 5 years ago
Quoted from Pinballerchef:

Do you know if a physical copy is being released?

Yes, it's confirmed. There's some kinda DLC coming out in a few months...I believe they're waiting for that so it'll all be on the cart.

#2056 5 years ago
Quoted from Eskaybee:

Who gets phsyical copies anymore? Turn on tv/console, pick game, play. No cartridge hassles, no container mismatches; easy peezy plug n play.

I go back and forth. I generally buy physical if it's a full price $60 game. Part of it is "I'm paying this much, I want a real thing"....part of it is the ability to sell the game down the road if I don't like it. I hated Crash Trilogy & Rocket League...so I'm glad I got those physically so I could sell them. I've buckled a few times on this...Mario Odyssey & Smash Bros. Partially cuz I wanted to play them immediately at 9pm the nite before release day...and partially cuz I've NEVER sold a Mario game ever...so having it attached to my system seemed fine.

Digital is a no brainer when a game is around $15 or less...lots of great games are on sale for just a few bucks. I don't care about reselling them if I get them so cheap.

Now with Cuphead...seems like a game that I'd never want to get rid of due to the amazing animation....but also I've been WISHING it on Switch since I saw it...so the dumb part of me kinda wants to hold the real game in my hand lol....

....I dunno, I'll probably just end up downloading it.

#2064 5 years ago
Quoted from Hobbypinball:

If you are "buying" digital - you actually aren't buying anything. You are at the whim of nintendo or whoever keeping servers available.

Always one of "those guys".

Look, I generally agree with you in theory, but the fact is - every disc or cart game now has significant patches & updates that need to be downloaded. They're not on the cart. So, if the worry is "oh no, I won't be able to play this in 20 years cuz servers!", the whole game isn't on that cart or disc anyway.

Everything gets archived, everything gets hacked. If for some reason my digital Cuphead on my Switch's microSD card doesn't work in 20 years, I'm sure my Switch will be hacked by then and I can just download the "rom". No biggie.

Game collectors need to realize that life itself is temporary...their games will outlive them. Just enjoy playing them now & have fun.

Anyway - I bought Cuphead DIGITAL today and am loving it.

I've been getting more lately than usual, but I just assumed that's because the mega experts got bored.

Quoted from Hobbypinball:

"one of those guys" lol. You must be a "yungin".

I'm 42...but whenever I see a post about any digital release game on the internet, I always see SOMEONE who's gotta chime in "YOU'RE JUST RENTING IT!". It's like whenever there's a retro game discussion and someone has to chime in with "RASPBERRY PI". We get it. Don't buy digital games. You do you.

Quoted from Hobbypinball:

Not sure why you want to pay full price for something that's vaporware though.

I paid for a game, and I received a game. That's not vaporware. Vaporware is a product that never gets released, like a Jpop game, Big Lebowski, or Deep Root. As an old wise man, I can teach you this.

Quoted from Hobbypinball:

I get the convenience of digital......so ask yourself why does it have to be one or the other. If you're paying 80 bones for a game, you should get the physical game with capability to download DLC patches onto it AND then upload it to your system so you don't need the cart.

That's a "piracy" issue. They don't want you to buy a cart/disc and then give it to all your friends for free.

Quoted from Hobbypinball:

The point is - ask more of Nintendo, Sony, MS, and game dev's. Ask them to charge less, or actually sell us a complete product.

I'm 100% happy with Nintendo's products. I thought Splatoon 2 was complete enough for me to be happy with it at launch....they could have left it alone. I consider it super cool that they've kept adding stages, weapons, gear, and special events at no extra cost. Same with ARMS (new characters, arms, stages, art gallery, special events). Same with Mario Kart (adding Labo compatibility for free). They're doing a great job, and I feel like I'm getting my money's worth for such great art and entertainment. Lets see....Cuphead for $20 or that lunchbox looking pile of crap Willy Wonka for $12,500 ...LOL...ask more from pinball makers. Video game makers are giving us some sweet sweet magic.

Cup head is literally handing me my ass! And I love it!

The lack of lives & in-stage power ups definitely seems to be an artificial way to pump the difficulty, though - don’t you think? Oh well, it is what it is - forcing me to play precisely when I’m usually a bit more loosey goosey.

#2077 5 years ago
Quoted from V_piscopo:

I agree. It's caused me to really learn the lvl through repetition just like in the nes days.

I’ve been playing the Celeste B-Sides lately, so I feel like I’m prepped for that muscle-memory type repetition....but dang, I’m getting slaughtered. Lol.

#2079 5 years ago

Aw yeah, just beat the world 1 boss with a Perfect!!! I think I’m better at the boss battles than the Run n’ Gun parts.

#2089 5 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

Hmmm. The one thing I love about side scroll shooters is the variety of weapons or power ups you can get ala Contra or Mega Man. If there's a demo, I may have to try it before I buy it. It does look beautiful though, but my kids will undoubtedly want to play it but then ultimately get frustrated.

There are a lot of weapons and specials you can get by collecting coins in the Run ‘n Gun levels. Right now I have a boomerang type shot & a homing shot. You can go into a level with 2 weapons to switch between. I also got a dash upgrade that lets you teleport...very handy...and 2 Super Arts attacks (saving up 5 supers lets you use a Super Art).

It’s an extremely frustrating game if you’re not used to super hard NES/retro games. You get one life/3 hits per stage. That’s it. You die, you start over.

I’m finding it tough, but not impossible. Just depends how patient of a gamer you are. Def not a kids game unless they like the challenge of hard retro games.

Quoted from adol75:

Good surprise with Cuphead. I'm suffering way less on the Switch version that on the XBox One. I think it has to do with playing in portable mode and having my nose right on the screen. The game is all about accurate placement, which is hard on a tv screen because of the graphic mess the game turns into sometimes.
Almost at the end now, after 2 days of play; where I stayed stuck for a week on the bee boss on Xbox.

It’s possible your TV has lag. When playing games, set it to a “Game” or “Fast” mode if it has it. Also turn off post processing effects like smooth-o-vision, dynamic contrast, etc. makes a world of difference in precision gaming!

Quoted from Jarbyjibbo:

I've been playing video games since I was very young starting with my parents Atari 5200. Saved up my own money and bought my own personal Nintendo so I wouldn't have to share it with my two younger brothers lol. My backstory is there to state that I am a pretty experienced console and computer gaming veteran.
However.... somehow playing BOTW makes me feel like an idiot gaming newb. I'm not much for using guides or walkthroughs but I feel that there is little or no guidance as to how to proceed at the beginning of the game. Open world concept is great but there should be some clear enough progression markers to get you going.
I just finished GOW and Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 and I'm a huge fan of how they handled guiding you along in the large open worlds. Hell I even used to play WOW and that did well moving you along.
Anyway, just wanted to vent. I'm a huge Zelda fan since the first iteration but I'm having a hard time connecting with this one.

Those games that tutorial for hours and hold your hand bore the shit out of me. I haven’t played more than a few hours of Horizon cuz it’s just tutorials and talking. BOTW throws you right into gameplay and exploration and it’s exhilarating and artful. I was really skeptical of it at first but it’s become my favorite Zelda ever. 200 hrs into it!!! I’m playing GTA V right now - and because I’m just following preset points on the map, I don’t really know the world. I’m just looking at the map and following where I need to go. With BOTW, you really get to know the world, landmarks and locations. It’s pretty amazing. Stick with it, it’s such an amazingly satisfying & beautiful game.

#2112 4 years ago
Quoted from txstargazer3:

When I read of folks with 200+ hours in on this game, I know it is not for me. That's like five 40 hour work weeks! I love gaming, but that is too much of my life!

I’ve always hated super long games.
They feel padded. I’d rather have a tightly designed 5 hour game than a 40 hour one. So, BOTW is that special to rope me in the way it did. I hope you guys don’t give up on it. I found every second of it to be absolutely magical.

...also the thing about BOTW is it’s only a long as you want it to be. You can go to Hyrule Castle at any time....I just wanted to keep exploring and discoving and meeting more people, doing more quests, and finding all the shrines.

#2114 4 years ago

Too much story just makes me feel like I’m doing filler between a movie. Bores me. BOTW has just story where the memories and cutscenes feel like a treat, rather than movie slog. I’ve been anti movie-wannabe games since Metal gear Solid 2. That game drove me back to Nintendo lol.

Ive been trying with my PS4. Finished Spider-Ma last year. Hadn’t touched it since then, been playing GTA V this week. It’s kinda cool, but also kinda too hand-holdy and story stuffed....I loved GTA3 tho, so it’s holding onto me with nostalgia at least. It makes me wanna play BOTW again lol

#2119 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I'm not sure I would consider BOTW having any story compared to modern games. It's like 1992ish level of story. I do have to give them credit though, they did add in some voices to the games instead of just text boxes for once. But that's Nintendo's deal, just make the same game with gameplay improvements over and over, and people love it.

I think BOTW is massively different in almost every respect for Nintendo...the gameplay, physics, AI, animation, voicework...but - yes, the story is still very simple, mostly due to Link not speaking - but that's a Nintendo's game theory that I love. They don't want their main characters to have much dialog, if any...they want the player to impart themselves on the main character. When I play GTA V, Michael is Michael, Franklin is Franklin, Trevor is Trevor...but when I play Zelda, Link is me. I feel so much more connected to the game than I do with the typical type of character writing in other games. I hope the next Metroid is similar...I like that I am Samus, and not listening to a disconnected character rambling about whatever.

Why else would you buy a Switch? If it’s a major release and has been available on other hardware I’ve probably played it already. Also the Switch version is going to be inferior. Yes I would love a steady stream of Nintendo titles and less remakes and ports.

Not everyone has other hardware. I love all these indie games - they’re all new to me! Plus you can’t take games on the go easily with other hardware. That’s what makes Switch the best! Cuphead is exactly the same on Switch as Xbone. Not everything is inferior.

The physical copy of Bloodstained Ritual of the Night was released on the Switch today. I've been following this for a while now. Going to pick up a copy at my local Wally World!

I read that it only runs at 30fps...I dunno, kinda turns me off for a side scroller, since all the classics ran at 60fps. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze runs at 60fps. Seems like 3rd party ports always have trouble optimizing frame rate.

#2233 4 years ago
Quoted from Xenon75:

None of the original classic side scrollers ran at 60fps... Talking NES/SNES/Genesis/N64 era here. Modern games sure, but if its animated at 30fps, being displayed at 60 gets you nothing.

Framerate of all the old classics...the Marios, Mega Mans, Castlevanias, etc...all ran at 60fps. There's a difference between overall framerate and frames of character animation. Mega Man has a 3 frame run cycle...but the game still scrolls at 60fps.

Very addicting & tons to do. You can play Nintendo’s courses, maker’s courses, make your own, play online with or against people, search for different styles of courses, do challenges....it’s kind of a never ending game!

#2249 4 years ago
Quoted from Jgel:

Is it worth it is you plan to never build a level? Are there a bunch of levels that you can just play offline?

There are 100 levels (maybe more) in the "Story mode", and even if you don't build any - if you are online, there will just be unlimited levels to play that other people are making.

Also, I forget if this was mentioned in this thread. But if you have Twitch Prime (free with Amazon Prime), you can get a FREE year of Nintendo Online...it works even if you're paying for it already, it just stacks onto your subscription.

Even if you don't have any online games, it allows you to download & play the NES games and Tetris 99 for free.

I have the WiiU SMM and bought SMM2 as well....even better than the first one. I don’t get into the stage building but the online community is huge and you’ll never get bored if you enjoy 2D Mario games. The story mode is a nifty idea...creative, fun stages.

I wish Amiibo costumes were still in the game - it was fun making stages themed around them. Aside from that, it’s better in every way. Having 3D World in there is amazing & opens up huge possibilities due to the unique mechanics of that game.

I usually love Nintendo hardware revisions, but I don't really get this at all. It's ALREADY a portable. The very name "Switch" implies the different ways you can play. Joy-Cons coming off for unique gameplay or multiplayer is awesome. Using everything with Labo is super cool. This Micro Switch basically takes away everything from the concept. If they wanted to make a cheaper "portable only" version, just repackage it with no dock for $200, and keep the docked version at $300 but throw in a free game. I dunno...I don't get it. Just gonna keep jamming on my Day 1 Switch. No complaints.

#2268 4 years ago
Quoted from timtim:

I would miss the rumble the most as weird as that sounds.

Absolutely. HD Rumble rules. You NEED it in Mario Odyssey to find some moons.

I get why they made 2DS...many people don't use the 3D, and kids SHOULDN'T use 3D...so they took it out and made it cheaper.

Don't get why they made this. Switch was already portable with tons of great features. It'll just confuse the market, IMO. Can't wait till a parent buys their kid a Lite Switch & then a Labo Kit, only to find it isn't compatible.

#2271 4 years ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

This isn't for you. It's for young kids and parents who want to save $100. It'a more rugged, less moving parts. It's a replacement for the 3DS, which is being put out to pasture. The Switch Lite will sell like hotcakes this Christmas alongside the new Pokemon game. They timing of the release is not a coincidence.
And as for changing the "concept" as you say......I guess you forgot about the 2DS.

2DS was called 2DS, not 3DS.

Switch Lite is still called Switch without any of the Switching ability.

You’re right, it’s not for me. I’m allowed to think it’s stupid though. I hope it sells well, as I’m a Nintendo stockholder.

#2273 4 years ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

Regardless, it replaced the core concept of the 3DS. So Nintendo isn't afraid of knifing the baby to reduce price.

Sure, but I think a more on-brand move would have been to sell a dockless Switch for $199, and the docked version with a free game download for $299.

Switch just has so many things it can do with Joy-Cons & Labo...a lot of games take advantage of the Switch's nature like Mario Party & all the retro games with vertical modes...they hyped up HD Rumble so much, and many games use it really well. Just seems so odd to make a version that can't do all the things a Switch can do. All 2DS did was remove 3D, which many people didn't use anyway.

#2285 4 years ago
Quoted from zombywoof:

Not to derail the Switch Lite discussion, but is it even worth it to buy Splatoon 2 at this late date? The game looks fun, but the last SplatFest is right around the corner. What are the rumors on Splatoon 3? 2020 release?

Splatoon 2 has so much content, so many modes, and is so endlessly fun & the community is very active. Splatfest is just a small part of it - and you will be able to recreate Splatfests & play all the special levels soon. Splatoon 3 is years away...no reason to fracture such an active player base.

Quoted from Taxman:

Sorry to jump in uninformed. I'd like an opinion.
I was a big gamer in the old days from Atari 2600 to full arcade to PS2 and Wii. Took a break for a few years.
I loved games like WOW but mostly played single player quests. Last year I got a PS4. I love games like Fallout 4, Witcher, Skyrim. Like Destiny 2 and Uncharted.
I'll go pickup a switch if it has similar titles. The only one I looked into was Breath of the Wild. Can anyone list games like these for me to lookup? Skyrim and Fallout 4 are some of the best hours I have ever wasted.

You seem to like the mo-cap skin & pores reality corpse games. Stick with PS4. Switch games are more about beautiful art direction, character design, and fun gameplay mechanics. BOTW is one of the best games ever made...but it looks like beautiful art, not reality with stiff doll people.

#2293 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

Nintendo does what it does well but there are plenty of graphical master pieces on PS4. Being a console fan boy just means your missing out. There is nothing on Switch that comes anywhere near what Naughty Dog has done. That being said there is nothing compared to BotW on Sony. There is no need to talk shit, it just makes it obvious you have never played an epic on another platform. Tell me this isn’t beautiful art.

I have a PS4, for the record. I have Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, GTA5. And no, I don’t consider those games beautiful art. They’re realism simulators, aiming for grass, leaves, skin and hair - not character design or art direction. They can be cool, but generally feel like tech over art. I think ARMS is more gorgeous than Spider-Man.

#2301 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

I didn't think much of Spider-Man or Horizon Zero Dawn, they both seemed average games that I couldn't play more than a couple of hours before losing interest. GTA is is what it is but its not a cinematic adventure or visual masterpiece its just everything under the sink all in one game. Right now I'm playing the Resident Evil 2 Remake and loving it, that kind of experience just can not be found on Switch it is fucking stunning in 4K HDR with a solid 60 FPS and the sound design is at another level as well.
Sorry for the three quotes in a row, didn't mean to hog the thread.

Thankfully there's something for everyone out there. I generally don't like realistic games, and I hate horror games. I like fun, colorful, beautiful music, and weird. I can't get anything like Splatoon, Mario Odyssey, Zelda, ARMS, Labo, Donkey Kong Country, etc on any other console. Nintendo's value is in their IP, style, and hardware concepts...not raw tech. IMO there's zero reason for them to be like the others...if you want mega-high tech skin 'n pores games, there are already multiple options...PC, Xbox, PS. If you want a system that can be played at home or on the go, with cool controller gimmicks & amazing 1st party exclusives (and 3rd party/indie support is pretty decent as well), Nintendo Switch is awesome.

#2304 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

You are such a fanboy no one is saying Nintendo doesn't do what they do better than anyone else. There is no need to talk shit about everything else. Some asked for some recommendations and people gave them.

You yourself are disappointed with frame rates on Switch and BotW frame rate has serious issues. You never mention BotW has a frame rate in the 20s and can not make 1080p. You telling me you don't want this

I wasn’t talking shit. Guy said he likes realism games, and I said PS4 is for realism games.

I like 60fps for racing, shooting, fighting....BOTW’s framerate doesn’t bother me. It works with the art style & pace. It looks like a Miyazaki movie, and the framerate helps the cinematic animated nature of it.

#2308 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

LOL, come on you can't be serious, the 24 FPS of film does not work on a television.

Every show & movie you see on television is 24fps, unless it's the news or soap operas....or do you turn on that bullshit smooth-o-vision and make everything look like soap operas?

Quoted from Darscot:

It only works in the cinema because of the way the light flashes through the film and it is a rock solid smooth 24. BotW does not have a 24 FPS frame rate, it tries to maintain 30 but can't so as soon as the action or visuals heat up the frame rate takes a dive. Nintendo has been putting a tonne of effort into it and it has gotten better with patches. That being said no one actually think a diving inconsistent frame rate looks good or is any way cinematic in nature. It also can't maintain a 1080p visual buffer so they render at 900p and stretch the image up to get it it to 1080p. No one thinks that makes it look good either. Nooo your not talking shit at all, LOL.

It's mostly 30, it's 100% gorgeous, it 100% plays great, is an incredible game design feat, it 100% has amazing character designs, animation and music. The forest is the only place frame dips are noticeable.

It's the best game I've ever played. Every time I try to play Horizon or Uncharted, I fall asleep from the boredom of walking creepy corpses talk too much.

Quoted from Darscot:

I'll leave you guys to talk Switch games.

This is Switch Club, ya maniac! Go play your skin 'n pores corpse games that all look exactly the same.

As always they outdid themselves and came up with something radical and new.

Hm, I like radical and new...but I’ve never liked Platinum’s games much at all. I couldn’t get rid of Wonderful 101 fast enough. Their games tend to be so frenetic with convoluted control schemes...I’m not sure I’ll like it if it’s similar in design theory as their other games.

Yes Astral Chains fits the description, frenetic and a control scheme that "get some time to get used to" as they say in the reviews. Well truth is the control scheme is a mess for no reason, every platinum game has a weird control scheme, but their games are always so good that I get over it.

One of the Polymega dudes is a friend, and brought the system over so me and my purist picky AF friends could throw our games at it and try whatever we wanted. Luigis Mansion 3 (switch)
Those are enough to keep me busy through the fall, how much time can a guy have?

I’m having a baby in a month - so Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be enough for me...and I prob won’t have time for it!

It’s literally the best game ever made. All other games in development should just be cancelled.

It’s super cute and funny in unexpected ways. A really fun game for people to watch, too. My wife was laughing her ass off as I fucked with people. She’s cracking up goin’ “YOU RUINED THAT GUY’S LIFE!!! BWAHAHAHA!!”

I love cheap sale games, and today Ultra Space Battle Brawl dropped from $14.99 to $1.49! There's even a demo to try if a buck fitty is too much to risk. It's basically Pong, but with funny/cool 16-bit style characters with special moves. Seems like something fun to play with friends!

Oooh, and I noticed Flame in the Flood is on sale for $5.24. I bought it way back when, but I love that game. Really cool survival mechanics, beautiful style, and great music.

#2480 4 years ago
Quoted from InfiniteLives:

yeah, i am an insane zelda collector and was a little bummed at the price/value on this one. still enjoyed the heck out of it and had a few head scratching moments trying to remember/figure out a few puzzles. for example A Link Between Worlds on 3ds was cheaper on release and a bigger (much better) game.

Nintendo usually prices by system, not by content. Games on 3DS are $40. Games on Switch are $60. That’s just how it go.

For some reason Captain Toad was $40 on Switch. One of the few exceptions.

#2485 4 years ago

Nintendo games hold their value, so if you buy physical & wanna get rid of it after finishing, you end up not paying too much for the experience.

#2489 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

I don't disagree the game wasn't worth $60, but I knew going into it after reading and listening to a friend that bought it and knew I was kind of over paying. HOWEVER I never played the original so it was all new to me. I put BOTW back into my switch after I beat it and THAT game feels well worth over 60.

I have to imagine that by just blanket pricing every game at $60, some games subsidize others. I mean, the vast amount of money that went into making BOTW - it should maybe be a $200 game! Then you have games like Link's Awakening that maybe "should" be like $20 ...but, it will sell well at $60, and that all goes into the company and helps R&D on bigger stuff.

#2491 4 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

My first game for the NES in 1987 was $50. So paying $60 for a MUCH better game in 2019 is ok by me. We could have the same inflation prices as pins in videogames

Since I stopped buying pins, spending $60 on video games seems like throwing pocket change around.

Quoted from taylor34:

I didn't realize Divinity 2 is now out for the switch. If you guys are looking for a LONG tactical RPG, there probably isn't a better one than Divinity 2. It probably has the best turn based battle system I've ever played, unfortunately saddled with an inventory system and quest system from the 90's. You'll definitely have to look up solutions for this game, some of them are rather hidden and not obvious. I'm almost done with it on the Xbox one finally.

You’ve described my hell.

#2500 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

Even though Divinity 2 is getting 95% ratings, I kind of think it's more like an 8 out of 10. It's a 10/10 battle system with a 6 out of 10 rpg part. I know the real hardcore people are like it's amazing to have something buried in an obscure place where you can only see it if your perception is high enough, but to me it's extremely frustrating to not be able to advance because I'm searching around forever not being to find stuff because it's actually not even there.
The books in the inventory are ridiculous. I think I have like 100 of them now. I can't tell which ones I need and which ones I don't, and I think the reading is screwed up sometimes (so you have to read them again) so I end up keeping them all just in case.
I also don't like that you can't grind at all in the game. The ONE GAME where battling is amazing, and the game prevents you from doing extra, lol. Whereas most games you have to grind because you have to.

about 20 hours into fire emblem, really good, highly recommend if you like the genre

Enjoy, I can't stand turn based anything, except for the South Park games. The humor guided me through those...but I generally can't stand RPG's at all. I really like the Fire Emblem music though - there's a skin in Tetris 99 with FE art and music...it's lovely.

#2513 4 years ago
Quoted from winteriscoming:

You won't agree, but to me it's a way better game than BOTW.

BOTW is pure perfection and art...this looks like a yappy yap yap talky talk corpse manequin game...soooooo yeah, I won't agree lol. Tell ya what though...when this goes on sale for $15 or $20, maybe I'll give it a shot. Although I guess I could do that on my PS4 right now lol

Quoted from winteriscoming:

Its a beautiful open world game with enjoyable combat in the vein of the Batman Arkham games.

I tried those games based on the praise, but those games were very convoluted to play, kept pausing for talky cut scenes, and I got bored of them pretty quickly. I forget which one was in 3D...Arkham City, I think? That definitely looked cool, but I got bored. Maybe I'll try to get into it again, I still have it.

Quoted from winteriscoming:

Seems like the Switch version would be a diminished experience. As much as I love the game, I have no reason to want it on the Switch.

Reason: People who want to play it portable.

Quoted from winteriscoming:

You'll dismiss it as corpse mannequins, but whatever.

Yup. It's got that distinct modern game non-style & too much talking that puts me to sleep!

I guess the game didnt sell so well at 20 but I would strongly encourage you to give it a shot. Its a stylish shooter that encourages replayability, once mastered it turns into a beautiful choreography of blood and bullets. Truly a one of a kind.

Nice, I was waiting for that to go on sale! WOOOO!

Quoted from InfiniteLives:

a physical copy is coming nov 12th if you are into that sort of thing

I go back and forth...if it's cheap enough, I'm fine with digital...but maybe I'll wait for physical - I don't really have time for it anyway lol

#2519 4 years ago
Quoted from adol75:

Im fine with digital, I find it easier than carrying a bunch of carts and opening the slot (I dont have any nails its a pain)

My reasoning waffles. Usually I like having the $60 Nintendo games physical...but then like, with Smash Bros, since so much of the content would be updates and DLC, I just said "F it" and got it digital. Mario Odyssey I bought digital because I was impatient and wanted to play it right away lol.

I like physical for games I want to play but probably won't want to keep long term...it's nice to get a few bucks back and thin the library sometimes. If a game is cheap enough, who cares.

BTW, speaking of cheap - if you like NES-style Mega Man-ish games, Revenge of the Bird King is on sale for 9 cents right now lol...NINE CENTS! It's pretty fun and that's definitely a "who cares" price.

#2522 4 years ago
Quoted from jayhawkai:

Witcher 3 and BOTW should not even be compared IMO. Completely different games.
I must be a slow gamer because I'm getting way more than 10 hours out of the new Link's Awakening game. Loving it as I never completed the Game Boy version.

I finished it around 15 hrs....but I didn’t do the Color Dungeon or find all the seashells yet.

#2524 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

I burned through Links Awakening pretty quickly, in the end it didn't feel like a console game there is just not enough depth or content. It was a masterpiece on Gameboy, it literally changed handheld gaming at the time. 26 Years later as a full price release on Switch it kinda felt like a cash grab. Nintendo sucks me in far to often but this is firmly in the should have bought used for half price camp for me. It's a super enjoyable romp through nostalgia but at that price point, with the graphic and performance issues it is just does not compete with what you get for that same money.

Keep in mind anyone born in the 90's onward probably never had a Gameboy or played it...so, for most of Nintendo's demographic, it's a new game. There's no rule on what the length of a new game should be. Not every game can be 100+ hours. IMO a great short game is usually better than a mega long game. If a game is too long, I will most likely never play it again. Short and sweet...I'll revisit and enjoy the experience all over.

#2526 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

If you take away the nostalgia or never played it before its probably worth even less. It's charming in it's Nintendo factor but that is really all it brings to the table. I think it has two dungeons that I would consider clever the others are just a quick run through. The usual items and a trading side quest. We all know your taste just letting others know it's a good fun game at $30 but very mediocre at $60.

Well the nice thing is if you buy it physical, you can still prob sell it for $50 since Nintendo titles hold their value.

I thought it was cute, but it's not even close to one of my favorite top-down Zeldas...but I had a good time. It's all good.

#2531 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

Physical version also has the worst performance, Nintendo is clearly focusing on the digital sales.

Well that's interesting...I hadn't heard that. Why would a physical version perform differently than digital? I've heard of loading time differences between physical vs. digital system memory vs. digital microSD, but never actual performance.

#2533 4 years ago
Quoted from adol75:

I think he meant sales performance. An unfortunately he is right. .

All articles I've seen indicate it's a top seller.

#2536 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

The frame rate issues are caused by memory access loading the assets. It runs best installed on internal flash. If you have a good SD it will run slightly worse on that. It has the most lag on a cheap SD or the cartridge. Its most noticeable when you transition between locations in the over world. The opening wave is laughably bad I can't believe anyone thought it was ok for the opening shot to chug like that. Sadly its another game that the hacking community has made serious improvement too, you can get rid of that horribly implemented tilt shift and do other tricks to make it run better.
I'm talking about framerate and memory performance. They game performs considerable worse on the cartridge.

Gotcha...so does the digital on the system version have the frame stutter at all? Does it just go away quicker?

(At this point I already finished the game, so it's not like I'm gonna rebuy it digital)

#2540 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

The game is ok but not great. I had never played it so I was excited but it’s kind of meh. It’s too much paint by numbers, everything is too scripted. Sometimes that is fine but in 2019 it feels like you’re on rails.

That's what I didn't like about it when I played the demo way back when it originally came out. Also the characters didn't sound like they were in the environment or part of the action....felt very "read off the page".

Quoted from konghusker:

So my 9 yr old is wanting a switch for Christmas. Any thoughts on switch vs switch lite? Seems like aside from cost, regular is the way to go. Also, what controller is recommended if I want up to 4 players?

Switch regular just has so many more features and versatility. It’s already portable, so the only benefit is Switch Lite is “cheaper & smaller”. You lose these functions:

-Dock to TV
-HD Rumble
-Removable/replaceable Joy-Cons
-Labo & Ring Fit compatibility (or any game that requires the Joy-Cons to be separated)

If you want multiplayer, again, regular Switch is the way to go. The Joy-Cons already detach for 2 player ability. 2 more Joy-Cons gives you 4...but if you want full sized controllers for multiplayer, the Nintendo Pro Controller is fantastic.

#2588 4 years ago
Quoted from konghusker:

Thanks rare. I didn't realize the joycons were individual (2 separate) controllers. I was thinking they were like the Wii nunchuk controls. Thanks

It’s like this - a L & R Joy-Con together on the system or included Joy-Con grip act like a regular PS or Xbox controller.

Separated, you can turn them to the side and use them as a mini controller. It’s not as good as a full controller, but it totally works for quick multiplayer sessions in almost any game.

Some games also have other configurations, kinda like the Nunchuck style you’re thinking of. For instance on ARMS, you can hold one in each hand to punch, move and block.

#2605 4 years ago

Ya, but if you buy a $20 controller you can’t expect it all? It’s a good way to go if it is controller for spares. I personally would rock Nintendo pros

Yeah I guess some people don’t care. I like the full feature set. Playing Luigi’s Mansion 3 right now and there’s a cool feature where the controller pulses more when you get close to hidden Boos. How do they let you know where the Boos are on Switch Lite?

#2608 4 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

There are visual clues, the vacuum shakes. This is a bit of a collectathon that you have to cover the same ground several times. I don’t mind backtracking to open new areas but just searching the same rooms over again is just artificially adding length. Do the gems and Boos reward you with anything? I’ve been getting them all on every floor but man it’s slowing things down.

We were supposed to sell Game Informer subscriptions and pre-orders (and got nothing for it, personally).

I worked at FuncoLand, before they all turned into GameStop. We also had to push the Game Informer subscriptions...but we got commission. Also got commission for selling cleaning kits. I think it was $2 per item. During Xmas I cleaned up...The mag subscription also got you 10% off for the year, so anyone spending $100, the sub paid for itself already & was an easy add-on. Cleaning kits extended the used game & system warranty, so people usually would buy those, too.

Quoted from investingdad:

On a totally unrelated note, have any of you discovered old games from years ago are now worth a few bucks?
Apparently my copy of Illbleed for the Dreamcast is hard to find and selling for $100 on eBay. Funny because I paid $15 for it on eBay and hated it, shelved it, and forgot I had it.

Yup. I sold my entire SNES & Genesis Collection...since I kept my boxes & documents, I had games people were giving me up to $400 for. I had a loose GBA Ninja Five-O cart that I got almost $200 for.

The collector scene is NUTS. I’m perfectly happy playing my old games on an Everdrive or ODE, so if someone wants to throw crazy cash at me for old games, I’m taking it.

#2658 4 years ago
Quoted from Agent_Hero:

It's funny how nostalgia and game prices continue to do their thing. It seemed like Dreamcast games were never going to be worth anything since everyone was downloading the games back in the day, now it's hot.

That’s the interesting thing...after seeing a few Youtubers amass huge collections, viewers all want to do that too. It’s not about PLAYING the old games, it’s more about the thrill of the hunt and displaying your “prizes” on a shelf. It’s not too unlike some people in pinball, really.

I love having my old hardware, but playing off Flash carts yields the same gameplay experience & reduces clutter. Once I get around to one of those SD card solutions for Saturn & Dreamcast, I’ll prob sell all of my original discs...they jeep climbing in value.

Just picked one up this past weekend. I forgot how brutal Nintendo is with their game prices. Super Mario Odyssey came out 2 years ago....still $50.00 retail. Luckily my buddy let me borrow his copy.

Mario Odyssey is one of the best games ever made. 2 years doesn’t change that. Nintendo values their art. I would never buy another game company’s games at launch as I know they’ll be $20 in a month, but Nintendo games hold their value & price. Might as well get them when they come out! It’s smart business.

We bought the Labo vehicle kit for my son (read: for me as well) and I've been working on it for a few hours now. Holy crap! I never expected this to take so long! And I feel like I have a ton more to do! Still not really done with the steering wheel yet.[quoted image]

The Labo kits take a really long time - but I had so much fun building them. It’s just crazy amazing how well designed the whole thing is. Then once you start playing it - it’s like - holy crap, this cardboard steering wheel & pedal is totally functional and super fun to play with. The vehicle kit there is the best one IMO.

I'm not too much into the older content from the NES Super NES.
I like the user made levels on Mario Maker tho.
I may get Link to the past for my next title.

Link to the Past is a SNES game.

Quoted from rai:

I am going to try Super Metroid and some Mario/Yoshi games.

Those SNES games are fantastic.

Links Awakening is cute, but keep in mind it’s a remake of a Gameboy game. It’s NES/SNES style but looks like little toys. If you wanna go for a long amazing more modern adventure, Breath of the Wild is amazing.

Quoted from rai:

Thanks. I think may try BotW did just pick up Enter the Gungeon for $7.49 figure hard to go wrong.

Gungeon is awesome - very hard but very fun. Keep in mind it gets a bit easier as you replay as new things are unlocked.

I was worried that BOTW would be too hard and confusing too, as I normally don’t like ultra huge and complex games - but that’s the genius of Nintendo. They somehow made an open world game approachable. You can play the game anyway you want. There’s no right way. You can go anywhere, meet anyone, accomplish things in any order. It’s very intuitive and the world is very inviting. The desire to explore is addicting. I’ve been a Zelda fan since game 1...some of the 3D games are a bit too confusing to me, but BOTW won me over big time...definitely my favorite in the series now and one of my favorite all time games. I’ve got 200 hrs on it.

#2794 4 years ago
Quoted from rai:

Thanks. I was looking at Link's Awakening but it doesn't seem like a $60 game (it'll wait for a sale but they say it's a 15 hour game), BOTW seems more worth the money, and I like Mario Maker too because it's really endless levels with player made content.

Yeah, I finished Link’s Awakening in 15. It works well as a love letter to the GB game, or a “my first Zelda” for kids, I think. BOTW is definitely a “money’s worth” game. It’s really just a beautiful work of art that you can play. Even though it’s non-linear, it somehow always engages you with a new surprise that catches your attention.

Play with a nice sound system or headphones. The details in the sound design & music are amazing and really enhance the experience.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

I just tried getting into Splatoon, but how was the game you posted any fun? Of course your team won since the level gap means your team could paint the entire map in half the time of the lower leveled team. I kept getting matched up with mostly similar low-levels, but then one person would be level 30+ and just totally throw the round out of balance to the point where there was no chance of competing. I have to hope the teams are kinda even or else it's a slaughter. How long until a newbie can buy a useful weapon? It looks like level 20 or later.

Actually that matchup I was in was quite fair. See the 25* on the other team? The star means they’re actually Level 125.

Also the level has nothing to do with who can paint what. It’s up to you, your weapons and your skills. If you’re keeping the other team splatted, they’re inking less. If you’re using a weapon that outputs more ink, ink away! That’s what I do. I use Sploosh-o-Matic which means my range sucks but I can paint a lot and swim through my curling bomb trails to get around fast and annoy the other team. I can super jump to my team mates in peril, and use my splashdown special to save them! Splatoon is always fun!

It’s best to not take Turf War too seriously. If you’re more concerned about equal abilities, play Ranked. It doesn’t matter if you’re new or old, the match-ups are based on skill.

As for weapons, I think all are available at level 20...but plenty of top tier players use the basic ones like Splattershot. No weapon is better or worse than another. It’s about your style of play and what works best for you.

Also, don’t turn off motion aiming - it’s key to great play.

Quoted from V_piscopo:

I really wanted to love Splatoon 2. Bought it at as the first game when I got my switch. Thought me and my kid-0 would play together. Turns out neither of us really liked it. We play more solo games separately. Hope to get into it together one day but for now having way to much fun playing solo rpg's apart.

As someone who has 620 hours on Splatoon 2 & hates RPGs, does not compute lol

#2805 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I'm pretty sure the secret to my success is that I'm using a pro controller with no motion controls enabled...since I've been playing FPS games with controllers since 2001, and I think most of the people playing unranked are probably kids using motion controls

I’m level 89, Rank S+ ...only way to play is with Pro + motion. That’s the only way you can aim & move like butter. Click click click aiming won’t get you far. Motion aiming is what the pros use, not the kids.

Most people play like idiots at lower level because they’re just figuring it out. They just aim at the floor, they don’t know the weapons, gear, maps.

#2807 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I did some research on it, seems like 80% of the players use the motion, the others are probably like me and are so used to the old style that it's too hard to switch, lol. The rainmaker mode so far is pretty frustrating...so many times someone on your team picks it up and then just goes nowhere with it, even when there are no enemies around.
I find it pretty fun, though I wish they'd allow you to pick your game mode...evidently I keep playing when rainmaker is the only game mode, so I keep getting stuck playing that. There's a lot of quitting that goes on too, my last three matches someone on my team quit. I actually don't know if they're quitting or if Nintendo's online system is kicking them out, it's kicked me out a bunch of times too (not when playing though, usually in between matches).

I haven’t been kicked off since I switched to an Apple Airport for WiFi (and when I’m docked, I’m wired). I suspect people dropping off is due to their own shifty WiFi.

Seriously tho - try motion. Keep in mind it isn’t pure motion. You still couple it with the right stick for left/right aim. It’s a powerful combo and very freeing to be able to look around and aim precisely with motion.

Tip for lower rank Rainmaker - EVERYONE tries to go for it...so, rather than rushing it - get around the other other team and try to kill them off as they’re rushing for it. Anyway, as you rank up, there will be less shitty players & competition becomes crazy.

#2809 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I'm not sure if I could do the motion controls while working out on the elliptical like I'm doing now, I think it would be pretty tough. I'll use your tips for Rainmaker. The dropoffs are definitely on Nintendo's side for me, I have zero dropoffs on my xbox one x that's right next to my switch...and it's not disconnecting me entirely, it's just kicking me back to the lobby (where I can immediately reconnect).

LOL you shouldn’t be playing a precise competitive game while on an elliptical!!! I can’t imagine!

How is Binding of Isaac? Is that any easier than Gungeon?

I tried Binding of Isaac and f’ing hated it. I don’t think it’s easier than Gungeon at all. He shoots like one slow bubble at a time....I really don’t get how that game got so popular.

Gungeon is hard intentionally, so don’t feel bad if it destroys you. You unlock stuff permanently each time you die...so it gets more interesting each time you play, and repetition makes you get a bit better each time, too.

If you’re more in the mood for a Mario style platformer, and don’t mind a bit of exploration, too - try the Shantae games. Also Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom...amazing 2D platformer/exploration/puzzle game.

Yooka-Laylee & The Impossible Lair is fantastic, too. As is Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

#2824 4 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

This only lasts for a room or two before you start unlocking powers. I didn't like it at first, but it is a really deep and interesting game in the way the powers all work together. Aside from the theme the only other thing I don't really like about the game is that it is really hard to tell what a power up is going to do before you take it. There are cheat guides on the internet but that is pretty cumbersome. It is popular for many reasons, even if that reason may be lost on you. It isn't for everybody.

Like TV shows, if a game doesn’t hook me within a few minutes, I tend to bounce. There’s so much in my backlog to play/watch, I can’t force myself if it bumps me right off the bat.

Thanks. I must be too old for some several buttons at the same time game.
What about a side shooter like Sky Force. That looks good has anyone played them there are two different ones reloaded and anniversary edition. Or is there a better shooter you’d recommend?

I really love RIVE. It’s a love letter to classic shooters. Has a bit of space shooting, a bit of platforming. Gorgeous and smooth. It’s often on sale for half off, so I’d wait for it to be cheap if you’re patient.

Another old school shooter that goes on sale for like $3 a lot is Steredenn: Binary Stars. It’s randomly generated, & very tough, but it’s a great bite sized fun game. Awesome music.

R-Type Dimensions is a remake of R-Type 1 & 2, with easy modes if you’re feeling more casual. Also - often on sale!

Dimension Drive was just on sale for like $2 ...it’s an overhead scrolling shooter with a dual dimension mechanic which is pretty interesting.

just picked this up for $0.9
tried the demo first (I wish more games had demos).

Sometimes those buck or less games are actually good! Hyper Sentinel is def one of them.

Here are some good cheapies (at the time of this post)

-A Robot Named Fight is 99 cents right now. It’s a roguelike Super Metroid.

-Xeodrifter is another cute Metroid-style game, 99 cents.

-Mutant Mudds Collection...a must buy for $1.49. 3 games in one. 2 are really good platformer/shooters with a fun foreground/background mechanic. 1 is a puzzle game.

-Conga Master Party. This game is goofy but worth $2.49, IMO. Funny 8-bit style, you have to dance around clubs and get people to join your conga line. Silly, but fun.

-Riptide GP ...I’ve always liked water racing games...this ones pretty fun, looks nice & is only $2.99

-VVVVVV This is a really fun ultra simple platformer/exploration game. Only $4.99 right now. Looks like a Commodore64 game, but really fun with excellent music & lots of content.

-R-Type Dimensions. Discussed above! Just noticed it’s on sale for $7.49

-Blossom Tales. If you liked SNES Zelda, you’ll like this. $7.49

-Cave Story+ ...amazing retro-style Metroid-style game. $9.99

I finished Luigis Mansion over the holidays but it was a complete chore after about 1/2 to 2/3. There was a couple interesting settings but the gameplay is just so repetitive. I collected the stupid gems and boos and that was completely pointless as was the currency. It looked great but man it was a unrewarding grind.

I finished the game...then went back and got all the gems and Boos...finished it again, and got a lower rating than when I hadn't collected everything! I didn't quite understand what that was about lol

Awwwww shiiiiiit, huge sale on the eShop! 1000 games on sale thru 1/16 ...tons of stuff on my wish list, lots of it has never been on sale.

Thanks for the heads up. I tend to be a sucker for these types of sales..

I have like 200 Switch games...but there are about 90 games on my wishlist. Nothing I *MUST* have...but stuff I wanna try if they're like $5 or less. Right now Valley is $5, so I might get that...and Teslagrad is $3, looks cool. Thinking about Sayonara Wild Hearts for $9, but SO EXPENSIVE lol

Quoted from rai:

How is Celeste? Is it too hard?

Most likely. It's an AMAZING game...but, it's hardcore. It starts easier, but really ramps up...but man, it is satisfying when you get into a flow and can pass extremely hard levels. On some parts, I definitely died 100's of times before getting through it....but I never got mad at it, the design is that brilliant.

#2862 4 years ago

How is Celeste? Is it too hard?

Rai, you should check out Rayman Legends. It’s on sale for $11.99 & I think there’s a demo, too. Amazing platformer, excellent art, animation & music - and its not ultra hard. Has TONS of content & even Mario & Luigi costumes for the characters!

+1 on Ring Fit, its a fun way to exercise and not drop a ton of money on equipment or the gym fees.

Yeah, its a really well made package - I used to do DDR a lot of exercise, cuz exercise is much more fun if it's a game! Ring Fit takes it to the next level, since it's not just aerobic, you work all your muscle groups in a really brilliantly designed workout game. Very fun. I need to do it more often, though lol.

Quoted from Hobbypinball:

So played through Ori and the Blind Forest which was fantastic.......then tried Hollow Knight. People want to make parallels on these games. I'm just not enjoying Hollow Knight. First, HK just seems more depressing to me. And then there's the fact I seem to suck at HK. I just don't enjoy having my a$$ kicked by a boss AND then having to trek 3 - 5 minutes (Mawlek) to get back to that point in the game to try again.
No offense to those that enjoy it, but I'll be abandoning it and moving on to either Gris or Rayman.

Hollow Knight can be really unforgiving until you get decent amount of powerups...then it's not bad, except for some BRUUUUUTAL boss fights. I got about 25 hours into it, and hit a wall where I kept getting defeated or lost. I definitely want to finish it at some point, but with those types of games, if you come back to it a year later, you totally forget everything. Ori looks awesome...I'll pick that one up eventually.

#2875 4 years ago
Quoted from taylor34:

I can't get into the roguelike things. They all seem really repetitive. Probably because I got my fill of these games in the arcade in the 80's replaying the first level over and over, I'm kind of over that stuff.

I thought I hated roguelike games until I played Flame in the Flood. Dunno why, but that one really worked for me. Now I like a bunch of them - Flinthook, Gungeon, Dead Cells, etc. yes there’s replay, but since it’s different every time, that keeps it from being repetitive.

#2877 4 years ago
Quoted from Gov:

The best roughlikes IMO are the ones that the better you do the more stuff you unlock and the more powerful you become for the next run. It feels like if you just do a little better this time, you will be that much better next time. Some are better at this than others.

Aren’t they all like that? I was under the impression that was the general design philosophy with those games.

I played Yooka laylee impossible mission this morning. Man, I forgot how fun a 2d side scroll can be. It is hard ish like a old n64 or nintendo game and has some cool explore/secretes like DKC.

One thing that was a pleasant surprise is how fun the overworked map is on Yooka 2...There are so many great little puzzles and secrets that are really satisfying to discover.

I’ve got 42 bees to protect me, but the Impossible Lair is still pretty impossible lol.

#2888 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

Okay good. When they offered me to go back to battle the impossible lair I was thinking....mmmm is this game that short? hahah

I finished 40 levels & have 42 bees. Took me 15 hrs. There might be some more unlockable levels - there are definitely more bees to find. I need more bees or need to really memorize the Lair, cuz it is HARD.

It’s kinda like Zelda BOTW...you can go to the end whenever you want, but you’ll probably get slaughtered lol.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but here goes:
I have 2 Switch systems and 1 physical copy of Zelda BTW. In order to both play at the same time, I'll need to purchase another copy.
Correct?
All of the other games I've purchased were digital, and can play separate games on both at same time.
Thanks.

Game saves are on the system, not the cartridge. You can use the physical Zelda on multiple systems, and each will have their own saves.

You can even use it on a single system and have multiple saves for different user accounts.

You can’t actually play literally at the same time, if that’s what you meant. You’d need 2 carts for that.

I downloaded The Touryst a few hours ago and have been playing since. It's a great game that mixes the puzzles/quests of BOTW with the platforming of Mario Odyssey. The quests aren't too difficult yet and feel rewarding. Really a visually appealing game and am definitely enjoying it.

I really liked the demo. I’ll snag it when it’s on sale.

Warning to Sega fans: Panzer Dragoon remake sucks. Controls are just sluggish and laggy and awful. They ruined a classic. Avoid until future patches improve gameplay.

Just snagged the touryst demo! Wowwwww really liked it! To the person who was just wanting a puzzle like old Zelda, this is it!
Also I played the demo for New Super Luckys Tale, which plays amazing. It’s n64 platformer feeling. Only issue I found was lots of loading. Otherwise I put it on my wish list makes me wonder why yooka laylee didn’t play like this...

Lucky originally launched on Xbox One, and they had the “luck” to rework and improve the game for Switch with Nintendo’s help. I think if Yooka had a 2nd shot at a major launch, they could have polished it a bit more.

Just started to dig into Smash last night. Going through the Spirit Adventure to unlock characters. I gotta say though, playing with the analog stick is not my preference, but slowly getting used to it. I had no idea the roster would be so scant from the beginning, and oddly enough, I'm preferring the Mii Swordsman right now.

My custom Mii Swordsman is my main!!! I wanted to get good with a fan fav like Pac-Man...but for some reason I really gelled with Mii Sword lol.

I never really understood Smash all these years, but the Spirit Adventure was really fun to me & helped me learn the game. I 100%’d it!

I bought Lumines last night to try out as it has high recommendations. At first, I hate it but after a few plays, wow, addicting!!
But I really am not very good. Any hints or tips besides the obvious? On the challenge mode (I think it is), where you are to get to lvl 100.. wow, can anyone actually do that?? I think ive gotten to level 6 and that was a struggle.

I think I got to 80 or 90-something. Not sure I have any tips tho. Just learn how to play fast & figure out how to make bigger blocks of the same color so they get “swept” away constantly. Just keep that screen as clutter free as possible. You’ll get into the groove eventually!

#3124 4 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

yeah, I've barely scratched the surface as far as playable characters go. I think I only have around 15-18 right now? Was expecting there to be a bit more of the roster from the get-go that I can play with my wife and kids, but playing with only 12 characters from the beginning is a little sparse.
i really like the moveset for the Mii Sword so far. His Up Special and Forward Special have saved my ass a few times lol

You can unlock them by playing any of the various modes. You don’t have to do it all in Spirit. I’ve got everyone unlocked...including DLC. It’s like 80 characters or so, and more are coming.

#3128 4 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

I need to get the DLC pass as well. It seems like it's random when "a new figher appears," as I've gotten a couple of them while exiting Spirit to the main menu. Also still not sure what the hammer and breaking the "glass" does. Seems like it's more stuff to unlock, but it's not obvious to me what they are? It also was hard for me to get used to the button configs on the joycons. Not used to the South and East buttons as my attack and the West and North buttons as jump. I might need to get GCN controllers afterall lol.

You can remap your buttons & save it to your profile so it’s the same every time you play. Because Smash kinda plays like a platformer, I started playing much better when I changed Jump to B, attack to Y and special to X. To my brain, the stock controls are backwards.

Animal Crossing is just good wholesome fun.

Quoted from FatPanda:

I've never had any interest in AC. What's your elevator pitch for this game?

I never did either. It’s a game where you just do normal real life stuff & decorate your town & house. Pick weeds. Plant flowers. Talk to neighbors. Sounded like a waste of time...now that we can’t do normal real life stuff, it’s kind of the perfect game of the moment. Plus, my wife loves it.

It’s crazy though, almost everyone I know is playing it. So, it’s just fun to have people visit your island or visit theirs, run around and be stupid & get items and clothes.

It’s just relaxing and cute.

Side side note: my favorite game to date has and always will be Splatoon 2. Can’t get enough of that game.

SPLOON 4 LYFE!!!

Are you splatting safely?

Quoted from northvibe:

I was HUGE into splatoon 1, then big when splatoon 2 dropped but haven’t played it as much recently, too many good players as switch is popular where wiiu wasn’t :-p

So much has changed since launch...so many more weapons, stages, music, tweaks & balancing...

You should generally be matched with players of similar skill. If the competition bums you out, try Salmon Run - it’s a super fun cooperative online mode.

The Taito games eventually come out here too. They have some weird licensing deal with another company for US distribution.

Quoted from investingdad:

Any thoughts on Ori and the Blind Forest?
I downloaded the demo and like it, wasn't sure about the whole game.

Everyone seems to love it. I haven’t heard a bad thing. Only reason I haven’t bought it is due to my backlog of similar games I really should finish first.

Quoted from investingdad:

Ok, how about Mario and Sonic Olympics? My son wanted another family game for the four of us.

Download the Demo!

Quoted from northvibe:

problem is I was spanked with my team being randoms and the other had to of been a clan or friend group on chat. and that was irritating as all get out. Playing against ~pro level teams with your cobbled together team succcckkkks. I'd rather play salmon run with randoms. I miss the game, I'll throw it back in.

Every match is randomized, so there’s no way a clan is always going to be on the same team if you’re playing Turf War. That can only happen in League. I play well with ransoms. Just knowing the maps well & using “This way”, “Booyah” etc is enough communication to play well with strangers. Sometimes there are idiots or trolls...just leave the group & join another.

#3172 4 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

Well at least back when, you could join multiple friends and be in a party to play

Even from the start, if you joined friends, you weren’t guaranteed to be on the same team in Turf War. It’s randomized. If you play League, you’ll stay on the same team.

Just finished my mini pinball cabinet[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Cool! I was hoping Zen would release a Pinball Labo. That would be awesome to make a cardboard pinball cabinet for Switch!

Quoted from FatPanda:

Hollow Knight is a BLAST! The combat is fun and frenetic, the visuals and score are top notch. I still haven't finished my run yet, and at this point, it'll be a while before I get back to it, but it's sooooo good!

I put 20 something hours on it...feel like I was close to the end...but haven’t played it in 6 months or so. I want to finish it, but I know if I turn it on now, I’ll totally forget everything. That’s always a prob with Metroid style games. You have to commit to finish & not step away, or it’s really hard to come back.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:

Does anyone give out friend codes for Animal Crossing? I just started the game and want to catalog items. I guess the only helpful thing I can do is water your flowers while I'm there.

You can add me - I have a lot of random shit, let me know what ya need!

Yep and it's great for the pinball games, except stern arcade doesn't flip the right way, at least that's what I've heard.
The fx3 and demon's tilt are great.

Dang! You’re right. Oh well....

Quoted from Gornkleschnitzer:

How does one acquire such a thing? I don't have AC myself, but my girlfriend does, and she was very interested.

Sometimes they fall out of trees or balloons. It’s totally random. I haven’t gotten any on my island, but my friends get them & send them to me cuz they know lol

UGHHHHHHHH my LRG physical needs to ship!!! i'm sooooo excited to play this. I have countless hours of SoR2 and 3 on genesis growing up. I remember being hyped for fighting force on ps1 and I also have the final fight arcade1up. However SoR4 has coop online...soooo pumped. I just wish it was cross platform coop

LRG does too many titles that should just come out normally day-and-date with digital. I didn’t have patience to wait for SOR4...and it was only $20 & wanted to support the developer & start playing! No regrets, it’s incredible.

Quoted from adol75:

It's exactly the oddity and the uniqueness of Animal Crossing. A game with no purpose, no story and no end that has hooked up a huge number of people.
I have to buy a second switch, my 2 kids are totally into it!

My mother-in-law has never played a video game in her life. She basically plays Animal Crossing 24/7 now...so much that her Switch Lite died. While it’s getting repaired, she got another Switch Lite...so when she gets the other one back, she can have two islands lol

Quoted from adol75:

More
Yes pretty much all the joy cons will have that drift issue sooner or later.

I’ve had 8 Joy Cons for 3 years (I like all the colors lol) & none have drift problems.

I did however have an issue where the “nub” on a few Joy Cons that locks onto the Switch wore down & they would slide off easily. I got a cheap repair kit online with metal replacement nubs, and now they lock in great.

ARMS! Really fun game. Underrated in my opinion.

Best fighting game since the 90’s, IMO. Unbelievably unique, fun, and the Joy-Con controls are wild, responsive and intuitive once you get the hang of it. It’s like fighting with a marionette. Amazing animation & music.

Over 1200 games on sale on the eShop right now! Summer sale! Lots of great stuff cheapie cheap!!!!

#3297 3 years ago
Quoted from FatPanda:

So many games on my wishlist that I want to buy, but realistically, probably won't play...So sad

Yeah lots of games on my list are on sale - but they’re not cheap enough to buy ‘n backlog. I might bite on Mark of the Ninja Remastered for $5 tho.

Quoted from Gov:

As for the Switch, I can't see it really being powerful enough to provide any kind of meaningful VR experience. I have a monster PC and it still struggles with VR in certain titles.

The Switch Labo VR is pretty interesting & immersive ...but it KILLS my eyes after about 5 minuted & leaves them feeling stressed. Not sure if it’s a “me” thing or what.

Quoted from northvibe:

I could see a switch 2 in a few years, that plays switch 1 and new games...in reality it would just be a new gen nvideo cpu/gpu.... so not hard to do for their technology path.

That happened with *new* 3DS...some games were only compatible with the new one, and that splits the user base. If they could come out with an upgrade that runs new games on the original version too, that would be ideal.

#3327 3 years ago
Quoted from northvibe:

...but then why have a switch 2?

In theory, It would be cool “Upgraded games” could still run on OG Switch with reduced textured or framerate....and if OG games got patched with performance boosts if played on the new one.

Quoted from j_m_:

it looks like the analogue pockets sold out in record time this morning. now I have to wait an additional 9 months to receive the item that I pre-ordered after waiting 10 months from the initial announcement. these guys definitive know how to generate review (and buzz) for their company

I have a feeling they will have more order windows up once they know they can source more of the materials & have them ready for shipping. I guess I got mine right before the sellout.

Quoted from j_m_:

I've heard that it was 5,000 systems, but don't quote me
what I don't get is how they sold out of every single item associated with the pocket. docks I could see, but charge blocks and link cables too??

“Completionist collectors” are fucking bonkers. There are people who wouldn’t be happy unless they had every official item sitting on their shelf to collect dust.

Quoted from Darscot:

You gotta love Nintendo, they announce Pikmin 3 for switch at $60 and quietly pull the $20 WiiU version. So if you if you actually have WiiU you get screwed and to play on Switch you have to pay triple for a 7 year old game. I was hoping to play it but I just can't justify that price point. I suspect they will do the same with the HD Zeldas those would be more tempting for me, especially Twilight.
P.S. The Sony Summer Sale has some killer titles at sweet discounts, such a massive contrast.

Nintendo’s ports may bug the few Wii U owners, but the truth is for most Switch customers, they didn’t have/play/experience the Wii U. For all intents and purposes, these are new games for the Switch user base.

Anyway, I got Pikmin 3 for free when they were giving free game DL’s with Mario Kart 8....I barely touched it then, so I can pass on this version. Bring on Mario 3D World Deluxe!!! I’ll rebuy that.

Quoted from northvibe:

It was heavily rumored with the 50th? Mario anniversary.
I would love a sunshine remaster or sequel. I never had my wii, wiiu or Gc out long enough to remember to just play it.

The strong rumor is that there’s going to be a Mario All-Stars 2 collection with 64, Sunshine & Galaxy 1&2 remastered.
