Quoted from PinMonk:

I thought he said he was going to fix some of the glaring issues before he printed more and shipped, like the word "lights" being on the playfield missing the "L" so it says "ights" as well as the atrociously bad/wrong 9 ball art in the middle. But you have one with the mistakes still on it he sent you in exchange for your good money.
So much for that promise...

Calm down...this is only the test print. He is still fixing the file for the main production run. I voluntarily took this 1st version from Mirco.

Quoted from cottonm4:

Duffy, I still pinch myself when I think how this all went down and you donated your play field to Mirco. Some stars had to line up for all of this to happen. Thanks for taking the chance and time it took to be a play field donor.

cottonm4 I appreciate the good words. Thank you for the heads-up and recommendation. This is my first playfield swap so let's see if I can actually get it all back in one piece!

This thread is so disappointing. No replacement playfield options for 41 years...people work on it for months, then when one is finally available it results in constant complaints and ridicule for the company responsible for it all.

If the repro is only 98% accurate, so what? It is still just a repro. Not original. If you want 100% true to the original then keep your existing playfield in your machine and stop badgering folks.

Nine Ball Mirco repro plastic set recieved today.

These photos are of the new Mirco repro playfield and the Mirco repro plastic set. Compared to the playfield colors, the plastic set I received have somewhat muted colors. The blue on the plastic set seems to be more of a baby blue. Are the differences in color saturation normal on Mirco Plastic sets? I don't have my originals back yet so I can't do a side-by-side comparison, but from my photos I took before I mailed them out, the colors on the 41-yr old original plastics were still very vivid.

Quoted from cottonm4:

Those plastics stink. They are too light. They should look like these; darker.

This is what Mirco showed on page one. Do yours look like this when they are not lit up? Here is what Mirco put up on page 1. They look pretty good as a static display.
[quoted image]

I got a confirmation from Mirco that I recieved the same product that was featured in his photos on pg 1 of this post. His photos were taken outside against a white background and look pretty good, but when the plastics are installed in the machine, you can see that the blue, yellow, orange and red colors are not near as vivid. When the plastics are back-lit they appear even lighter.

IMO they are good quality overall, but the colors need to be a bit more saturated so that when they are backlit they compliment the playfield a bit better.

Quoted from mof:

Are they translucent orange or opaque orange on the repro?
-mof

All of the inserts used in the repro appeared at first to be equally opaque to me. I can now see, as Mirco has stated, that the #3 insert is a bit more transparent. Either as a result of the clearcoat, or the insert used...the #3 ball appears very similar to the rest. Not a big deal to me, when the game is running it looks fine.

Quoted from PinMonk:

What do the back of the plastics look like? If they're washing out when backlit, the white base might just be too light.

PinMonk Here ya go.

I'm seeing clearcoat chipping on the new playfield after only 3 days of play under the left lane lock. It took a small piece of the artwork with it. Is there a hole protector available for this area?

I am probably going to route a small chamfer so that the ball is not impacting such a sharp edge, then touch up the missing section with some clear or maybe a small mylar. I'm not sure where the difference in geometry lies, but I can see a small wear on the lower edge of the lock hole in your photo, as well as in my old playfield (see attached photo). But you're right...the ball normally travels airborne a few inches south before it lands on the playfield. I think Highclasspinball should chamfer the edge of that hole after the manufacturing process and before clearcoating.

Quoted from mof:

Now I gotta go look up "champfer" ... champfer.

Crazy, had never even heard the word before.

HAHA. "chamfer" as in a 45⁰ angle cut into the edge of something

I used to be a machinist. Some things stay with you forever.

Chipping of the clearcoat is now also appearing at the rear single drop target. I didn't get a picture before I took a razor knife and cleaned up the front edge a bit. Before installing anything on the playfield, I should have made a small bevel around all of the holes and slots. The edges are so sharp, he must have cleared it first, before milling out the holes and slots.

My aim here is just to be transparent about what I see.

BTW: Does anyone know where I could find a replacement red target? Mine was pretty worn, so I sanded it down to bare aluminum and have thought of painting it, but if a new one if available that would be great too.

Quoted from metallik:

I wonder if Stern had significant variances in color, and CPR repro'd based off a batch that looks like mine, and Mirco repro'd off a set that looks like yours?

Mirco repro'd the plastic set based on my originals I sent him. The originals were a nice vibrant blue, so I can't explain why his NB repro set came out a much lighter blue. I ended up putting my old plastic set back on.
