Quoted from cottonm4:I think you wiil be quite happy with the clean up. It appears that all of the balls are in great shape. I cannot see the 3000 over in the left lane, but would be very happy is my play field looks like yours,.
Condition looks very similar to the one I recently found. I think I have decided to make a clear playfield protector for it but not certain yet.
Quoted from Pingball:That is my one wear spot, guessing it's a common one. Is there a stencil or decal out there for this?
Same exact spot here... I was thinking water-slide decal... Someone has to have made one already?
Quoted from Pingball:They seem to do lots of classic Stern backglasses and plastics. Don't think I've seen a playfield by them yet. Are they interested/able to do them?
Huh? They've certainly done some Stern playfields. Meteor is currently advertised on their homepage and they have certainly done Flight 2000 playfields... Catacomb is "out of stock" but they made those as well.
Quoted from NeilMcRae:Folks,
anyone put LED's into their Nine Ball? if so what are you using?
Neil
I put Comet warm whites in the backbox. Does that count?
Quoted from Redketchup:I only put led on the backglass also for conservation purpose only... Classic stern is beautifull with incandescent light. You can put blue or green 44 if you want a darker look on those color
Same. I did add a single directional LED bulb to replace that annoying one up by the loop that shines right in the players face.
Quoted from Deadlander:Looking to join the club. In search of a 9 ball projects are ok or will buy your restored one as well.
Thanks
Al
You will need some luck to find one. Good luck. There are a quite a few people looking for one. I wouldn’t trade mine for a NIB Stern.
Quoted from Pingball:How did you make that happen?
It's part of the "new rules rewrite" thingy.
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/9-ball-software-rewrite#post-5428749
Quoted from Barakawins1:Wow, 9 ball's are getting sucked up quick.. This is definitely the next Star Gazer / Quicksilver in price.
But NB is actually a good game.
Quoted from cottonm4:Nine Ball is a must have for me. I have never had chance to play Meteor so I cannot pass judgement.
For me, the must owns are Big Game, Catacomb, and Nine Ball. These 3 are my keepers, and as much as I like my Seawitch, it would not make the cut if / when the time comes for me to downsize.
You accidentally got Catacomb in the same sentence as NB and Big Game. Catacomb is a pointless piece of crap. It’s right up there with Viper. Yawn.
Quoted from cottonm4:That's because you don't know how to play it. It is a little tougher than Seawitch.
You are hilarious. I know exactly how to play it.
Quoted from TheLaw:Well there's hating a game which is fine, and then there's saying it's as bad as Viper; not cool.
Lol. That's actually really funny. I'm just going to crank it up one more small notch and come out and say it - Ali is better than Catacomb and for that matter, Meteor and Galaxy are WAY better than Catacomb. Plus, you can buy all three of them for less money!
I like playing most classic Sterns but just have zero tolerance for certain quirky titles that stray away from solid pinball standards, have bagatelle gimmicks, or have off center shots on purpose. Quicksilver-Viper-Catacomb-Freefall-Orbiter1-Iron Maiden-Seawitch-ect. It would be great to find these because I would fix them up and sell them all to buy what I feel are better playing games. There is a big difference between saying a game is good and actually owning one. Also, don't confuse price and rarity with how well a machine plays.
Quoted from mof:Did you just lump all these games into one bucket?
Based on what objectively measurable parameter?
-mof
Yes. I can spell it out for you.
All of them have at least one thing that I can't really stand.
I will refer to these as "gimmicks":
Viper - that cannon mech thing that you fire
Freefall - freefall mech for balls
Orbitor 1 - playfield that isn't flat
Catacomb - a random bagatelle that is essential to scoring big points in the game
Star Gazer - rollovers inside slings - yes the timed spinner value/drop completion rule is cool but not cool enough for me to own it.
These are less gimmicky but the layouts make no sense to me:
Quicksilver - why is there a huge drop target assembly blocking half the playfield?
Seawitch - debatable but those right and left loops are not designed properly
Iron Maiden - spinner rules that get it up to 6K per spin are fun but what in the hell is the point of this gigantic upper/lower playfield with skill shot taking up half the upper? It plays a bit like flight 2000 but seems overly complicated, bonus ball feature, 3 different bonus multipliers, 3 ball multiball, ect.

Now, the artwork is amazing on a lot of these games. But I'm a pinball player, not an art collector.
It's just personal preference. You can choose to like them, I am listing some of the reasons that I don't.
Besides, this is "Nine Ball Club" not "Classic Stern Club".
Quoted from TractorDoc:Its been awhile since I've posted in the Nine Ball Thread.
I won't say much about one game being better than another. . . but I will say I have yet to tire of playing Nine Ball after a couple years of ownership. It gets played more than the Williams IJ and Dirty Harry on either side of it. It must be the spinner! [quoted image]
It's not just the spinner. Steve really put a lot of thought into all aspects of this game. I think it's the best game that he designed. Layout, rules, art. It has some cool features, some of which could be considered gimmicks but the key here is that they NEVER detract from the gameplay. Most oddball gimmicks in pinball take away from the game play too much and serve as a distraction. The only gripe I ever had about the game was that some of the code for switches had flaws in it but those are being fixed as we type.
Quoted from EEE:New member here. I just picked up a working project. A few stuck switches, a couple of busted drop targets, playfield wear and a “fair” backglass.
At least it boots up and plays.
Sounds like it’s about that same as the one I found some months ago. That game is a blast.
I think it will happen but it's going to still be a while on repro playfields. I am hopeful for one in the next couple years.
Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:So... I stopped at someone's house on the way home from Pinfest to pick up their Seawitch and walked out with Nine Ball instead.
Nine Ball is a way better game.
Did you start switch test and confirm the shooter lane switch and all other switches are working?
The game will never work properly unless all switches register in test mode.
10 amp fuse is feature lamps. It would not prevent you from starting a game. Looks like in pic there are 27 credits. Did you put both balls in the game? I think unless both balls are registering, the game will not start.
You can always go to switch test to confirm that both outhole switches are good and, also that the start button is registering as well. All 3 need to work for game to start.
Quoted from cottonm4:I think you need all 3 balls loaded before it will start.
Yes, all 3. Set all switches in the game to open, (remove all balls) and then use switch test, it will save you time.
Quoted from tatman9999:Looks like red wire with yellow was off coin slot. All is working now
[quoted image]
See, time saver.
https://www.titanpinball.com/kits/index.php/browse/bygame/3323
Orange rubber kit posted in 2020.
Quoted from sullivcd40:Has anybody installed alternate color led displays? I think blue would look kinda cool.
If you (or anyone that will play the game often) has blue eyes, I would strongly suggest to NOT choose that color.
