Just got this Pin to power-up. I bought it last year.
The Reset relay stays locked on when the Credit button is hit.
The Score motor keeps running and#1 and #2 player relays keep clicking.
I checked the relay contacts in the Reset circuits, but didn't see a problem.
I thought the most likely problem would be the make/break relay contact 1D on the Score motor,
but that does open and close!
Any ideas on a likely cause ?

Yes.... they do reset.
After they reset I disconnect the coil wires to the #1 and #2 player relays so they stop clicking.
Did I overlook a relay contact somewhere that is staying closed?
Where is this Drum unit Zero switch / maybe that is staying closed!

I cleaned all 16 Score reels. One of the 'Zero' sws. (#1 Player) was closed at Zero, but after I adjusted it, nothing changed.
I noticed the Bonus relay is staying closed and #2 Player Score reel keeps scoring, so I turn the power off.
I'll trying to find why the Bonus relay is staying ON. I assume that is why it keeps scoring.
I'm thinking its a switch/s on the Playing field!

the score reels reset to zero? or #2 starts counting up and scoring?
........................................................................................................
Both were happening, because the score motor keep turning.
I cleaned all the Score reels, Player counter, Credit counter, and Ball counter assys.
It would also not Eject the ball to Play. I found the Bonus unit assy. was not resetting to Zero.
When I Reset the Bonus unit to Zero manually, the ball would eject so I could play. But it only ejected once; because the ball count lite stayed on 1.
I compared Night Rider to my Old Chicago pin (1975) and noticed that the Bonus unit on my O.C. would step down and reset to Zero before the 1st ball would eject.
I think my problem now is the Bonus unit is not Resetting to Zero to eject the first ball, and the ball counter is not advancing to eject the 2nd ball after it goes in the Outhole.
I have made some progress...... so that's Good!
* My bridge rectifier is Bad...... I have it disconnected. What should the DC output voltage be for this part ?

Ok..... the transformer has outputs of 50VAC and 6VAC.
The 'Bridge' is bad, but that is a minor problem because it is used to power the 'Sling shots'.
Why are they using DC for those and AC for the Flippers ?

#10 8 years ago

Ok... replaced the Bridge rectifier; sling shots and two of the Bumpers work.
I only measure about 10VDc, so I guess that is all they need!
Bonus unit..... unit resets now. I cleaned and adjusted the 'Bonus' and 'Double Bonus' relay contacts.
I think one of the make/break contacts was stuck ON.
Other..... Player up and ball Count not advancing now; was working....... Ugh !

Where is the Zero position on the Coin unit assy ?
Does the switch stayed closed all the time, or how does it function for the various positions ?

#12 8 years ago

Noone has a working 'Night Rider' EM ?
It would have been nice if Bally included diagrams of the Units like they did in the Bingos , so you could
identify the wires and the switch operation......

#14 8 years ago

Thank you........ I have worked on about 50 of these stepper units, but this one is driving me nuts!
Also note how the switch operates !

Quoted from insearchofspace:

I have one too, I'll try to take some pictures tonight.

Thank you........ I took off the switch and tried different settings, but the reset is not right.
I think the switch s/b closed for steps 1-3, and Open at step4.
I think that is what is showing in the schematic.

This is position #1.............. Is this correct ?IMG_2470.JPGIMG_2470.JPG
This is position #4..........Is this correct ? IMG_2471.JPGIMG_2471.JPG
This is the Switch at position #4 ( Opens when it hits the stop) ..... Is this correct ?IMG_2472.JPGIMG_2472.JPG

YES.... it steps-up and seems to work Ok since I got the Player-up and Ball count to work now.
It just does not want to Reset; that is why I thought the unit was not Zeroed properly.

#21 8 years ago

Its Resetting now...........
I had to wind the spring really tight. Normally the spring doesn't have to be that tight, but this one had to be.
I cleaned the Unit many many times, so it isn't dirty.
Once I fixed the other problem with the Player-Up and the Ball Count, I was able to trouble shoot this problem.
Ok.... now I can work on other minor issues!
Thanks to All who helped.....
I may need future help, so don't get lost!

Glad to hear you got it working

Thanks...... there were so many problems with this Pin it was hard to kep on track.
After I fixed the 'Player-up' and ; Ball Count' problem/s, it was a little easier to focus on the 'Coin unit' reset.
Just found two broken wires the middle of the harness; what are the odds of that happening!
'Night Rider' playing very nicely now; not sure of the proper Scoring now.
What is the 'Over the Top' function on this pin ? I don't think the book explains it .

Ok............ Thank You

I would verify the 'stepper' units are working properly!
'Ball Count', Coin unit, and Player-up units.
Manually step-up and reset the units to verify they work smoothly; if not clean them.
