I have a night rider that at start up will not advance the bonus unit to the 1000 position as it is supposed to do, as a result the machine keeps resetting the drop targets and the coil that shoots the ball to the shooter lane keeps firing, any ideas. Also the flippers and pop bumpers died, any ideas would help, Thanks Bill

Solenoid fuse may be blown. Also check the ball outhole trough switch is not stuck closed.

Thanks I'll check that tomorrow when I get back to it.

What's the Outhole relay doing when this happens?

#5 4 years ago

wwWell if the switch is stuck closed than the game thinks the ball fell back and did not make it to the plunger so it keeps trying to kick it out. Now the drop targets resetting also makes me question if this is the case but being an EM it might be designed that way, they reset with each new ball, not sure they trigger with each kick of the trough solenoid. I can check on my game later but this is where I would look first.

Reached thru coin door and held trough switch down and started game...it continually resets bonus counter, drop targets and trough solenoid fires...keeps repeating that routine every couple seconds. Does that sound like what your is doing? Of course there could be a switch on a relay or elsewhere causing the same effect but first things first.

No the outhole switch is not stuck and the outhole relay keeps kicking in and out. Yes it resets drop targets and fires trough coil and score motor runs all the time. I have had some other input on other relays that run in the same series so I have a lot of checking to do. I will Keep you informed, Thanks

I think there is a “player unit” stepper in backbox...could be that not resetting...does ball 1 light on backbox light up when you try to start a game?

If the Bonus Unit Stepup solenoid doesn't activate when the Outhole relay does, Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires

Thank you for saving my sanity, I never thought it was a voltage problem at the coil I was just looking for the switch circuit problem, turns out I traced the circuit you outlined in red and found that the jones plug was bad at the connection from the tilt relay to the bonus step up coil, I had to change bottom half of jones plug and now all is fine, Thanks again, Bill
