Hey Pinside,
This may just be a case of correlation but wanted to pick some of the brains around here just in case...
I had made a previous post about phantom scoring on this game and frunch and I got it nailed down to shorted IC (Z11, 7404). During our diagnosis I looked at Z13 since it was the return for the circuit in question. Z13 passed the DVOM test without issue (and had actually been replaced one before by my dad, although I don't know why). Once I replaced Z11 all scoring worked normal! Well at least did for a few hours of game play.....
I then had a "no score" condition on the right rollovers and the right kick bumper. Reviewed the switch matrix print and found that all of the switches shared a return into Z13 and sure enough pin 5 was shorted to ground! (Try not to polish my own apple to frequently but from lifting the glass off to fixed was ~5 min! Over course it helped my dad socketed the IC but I digress)
So what I am asking: Is there something else I should be looking at? What are the chances these failures just correlated or is there some other fault that is over driving these ICs??
I did also experience a couple random resets during game play, has happened twice since I repaired the phantom scoring. Any additonal guidance on where to look for that would be greatly appreciated as well!
