Night Moves (Gottleib 80B) No LED on Sound Board

Hi,

I got a Night Moves and I am getting no sounds at all. When I first got it I was missing music only. I reseated a few connectors and lost all sound. The LED on the sound board is not lit at all. If I press the reset button I can hear a brief sound coming through the speakers, but the light does not come on at any point. Game appears to work well except for this.

I tested and adjusted the 5 volts measured at the MPU.

This is my first Gottlieb so I am finding things a bit more complicated. (A million white wires with candy stripes!) Anything I should check to narrow down my search? I see that the sound goes to many different boards.

If there is something please be specific. I have the manual from IPDB and a multimeter, but as soon as I look into the cabinet things get complicated.

I can probably get access to a working Night Moves, to maybe test boards etc., but don't want to over play that card as I believe that machine is on location.

I am trying to not dump a bunch of money into this machine, but I have to have the sound working as the music to Night Moves is amazing.

Is there anything located on a different board that I should be checking? I would love to bring my sound board with all the ROMs to the working machine and see if I can use the process of elimination to sort this, but would feel badly not putting in a little leg work before hand, and would want to minimize the amount of part switching between the machines.

It was weird how I had sound effects, but no sound (no LED on then either) and then just lost it all.

Awesome, Thanks. And if anyone else is dealing with this type of sound board that has the auxilliary sound board be careful with that ribbon cable! Those pins get mangled if you look at them wrong.

An interesting item I just noticed. While checking voltages at the Auxiliary Power Supply (A5) from pin 9 to 8 I got 36 volts DC. The schematics says I should have 24 Volts. I can't quite figure out what this 24 volts feeds, but we do have good 12 Volts at pins 5 (-) and 10 (+). AC voltage is good too.
