    Quoted from NicoVolta:

........Always check the underside of the relay ladder. Oftentimes (especially on score relays) the metal plate is worn away by the coil. If the wear is deep enough, the coil will occasionally catch in the groove and stick to the plate. “Residual magnetism” is often blamed when relays stick, but plate gouging is the more common cause. Use the sanding flapwheel to smooth the underside........

You are right about the wear causing an issue. I have however, moved away from this fix method during restores to a more simple fix?

Remove the ladder and drill out the rivet and flip the plate 180 deg. Add new rivet. Done for another 50 years and then you get your flap wheel out. I batch fix the plates during a restore so a games worth of plates are done in 10 mins. You may also need to add a brass rivet to the contact point with the relay sometimes too on many games so you need rivets and a punch on hand anyway.

I enjoy your write ups, keep going.

    Quoted from Insane:

then my unit is really messed up, because the missing teeth are near the start of the rotation. i have the sols and switches pulled off to clean.

It looks fine except needing a good clean. Apart from the coil and stops being removed it all looks to be there. Steve has a spring set but not sure that you really need that either. Put your parts in a tumbler for a day and the springs will clean up and put back together.

    Quoted from NicoVolta:

Christmas reminder: Don’t forget to tug every solder joint as you go! Especially on those late 1950’s-early 1960’s Gottliebs.
Something was definitely off in the solder assembly line. I have found... many Gottliebs... where the wires pop right off during those years...
    *pop* *pop*

Williams games from the same period have the same issue. Especially poor soldering joints on the score reels.

    Congratulations Nick.

I thank you and your special shoes for the US educational pinball inspired walk. Especially a love story with a happy ending.

With all good stories a sequel is surely around the corner.

Best of times ahead I am sure.
    Regards Steve

    Quoted from NicoVolta:

I think that only applies to q-tips with plastic segments. I concur! Let's stop making them... what's wrong with paper?
A few restaurants around here are no longer serving drinks with straws by default. “Upon request” only. Seems reasonable to me.

I am not drinking from plastic beakers washed in any restaurant. Gotta have a straw! hygiene is our own responsibility.
