Just a heads up, Radio Shack has the Panavise on clearance. Usually over $45 now under $20.
Guessing that's not large enough to hold a WMS driver board lol.... 12" wide? Do I have any PCBs that small aside from WPC CPU's?
Panavise did make extender arms for very wide boards, but it looks like they do not make that option anymore.
Although you could probably fab up an extended support bar between the two arms.
They do still make the wider bars:
I've got the same vice but with a different, heavier base. Indispensable tool when I'm doing board work. Great price if you can find one.
The "extender" they sell for the Panavise is really just a small piece of square tube.
They sell it at Home Depot in 24" and 48" lengths.
All you need to do is cut the stock to the desired length and drill your own mounting hole for the screw.
Thanks, I bought a vise last night. Was not sure on the extender. If I had known it was just square I would have gone that route instead I bought a 30" on amzn for $6.99 shipped.
Panavise sells some nice stuff, but I don't think I'd like the one RS sells.
A board vise is one of those things that you keep putting off buying, and then once you buy one, you wonder how you ever made it without one. You can build one using new parts for $100, or if you watch eBay, you can get used vises and parts.
I built my own, using the following components:
05 - Base
308 - 5# base weight
315 - PCB vise. Comes with 12 inch bar, holds PCBs up to 10 inches long
318-22 - 22 inch extension bar, allows to hold up to 20 inch long PCB
With the 22 inch bar, I can fit a WPC power driver board, or sys11 MPU.
That be one durn purdy system 7 driver board there son...
Good boy, mos fets and 0 ohm resistors in the lamp matrix, new connectors, new resistors. What? No LED on the blanking signal?
