I had a call to help some people get their 1978 Playboy working. This game was purchased via Julien's Auctions during the Hef estate auction late last year.

The game was brought to them in pieces and assembled by delivery guys. I came in for the last mile (connectors/testing/etc.)

Not sure what to say but I believe this game has never been played before. It is in beyond mint original condition. Even the ball and tilt bob were still wrapped in plastic. The metal rails still have their plastic on them, I'll peel it off when I return with a new display. There's no way this was the Playboy in Hef's game room, it must have been in storage or something like that.

Searching their auction book, there were six 1978 Playboys in the auction and winning bids were approx $8,000, $10,000, and $13,000. Add a hefty 25 percent buyer's fee to those prices, plus their ridiculous shipping (the winners of this auction paid $2,500 to ship the pinball and also a chair they won). I believe it was simply luck of the draw which game you got, maybe one that had been in Hef's game room for decades, or maybe this one.

https://www.julienslive.com/m/search?page=1&view=list&key=playboy%20pinball&sale=undefined&catm=any&order=timeleft&live=no&hybrid=no&timed=no&regular=no&buynow=no&makeoffer=no&xclosed=no&featured=no

Well I'm sure these guys got the best one. Don't know what they paid but it must have been one of the cheaper prices - the person I was dealing with said it was about $15,000 shipped for the game and the chair.

Anyhow, look at this thing. I believe I was the first person to ever play a game on this 1978 Playboy. Only issues were a couple light sockets needed turning, one display is completely dead (it's the display, I moved it to player 4), and of course the battery wasn't pretty and needed to be cut off (the board looked ok). The apron was also loose. Game played amazing from the first go.

As an aside this is the same auction house where I obtained Dio's couch.

Check out this game, and also Hef's chair. Which is decidedly NOT mint (wouldn't want to shine a blacklight at it):

That's a looker right there. Lucky you! Hope the battery damage wasn't bad. They can leak all over the lamp board and cause issues. Did you tell them about NVRAM in place of the battery? Cheap and should be put in place of the removed battery, if they care for such things.

Beautiful! What a find.

I just clipped it off and game works fine. They don't care. Coin mechs work of course.

The game wasn't tested or guaranteed working so they were thrilled when I fired it up.

..............after all of those beautiful pics, I was wondering when I was going to see the chair. Then...BAM, there it is. In all of its former glory.

#6 5 years ago

That's a pretty looking time capsule!!

#7 5 years ago

Looks like she's an eleven !

#8 5 years ago

So should the slingshot mylars be installed? I'm inclined to say no, why bother.

Also, what do you think this game is actually "worth?"

I believe if I came into possession of this, I'd probably ask $20K and go from there. Maybe settle for $15k? There's gotta be someone out there who would pay for a mint original 41 year old classic Bally.

I think they actually got a bargain, paying around $10,000 or $12,000 all-in for it.

It was so weird installing these connectors - all of the connectors and wires looked like they were fresh from GPE. And after messing around in the game, ZERO dirt on my hands and fingers. Just a little sawdust from the bottom of the cab!

#9 5 years ago

Very cool, Levi! Thanks for sharing.

I bet you made them feel really good about their purchase when you fired the game up! Awesome.

I would not put the mylar on it personally, and I'd say they paid about what it's worth if not a little more. Would probably take a while to find the right buyer.

#10 5 years ago

That's great and all, but c'mon man don't hold out... show us what Dio's couch looks like!

#11 5 years ago

no mylar please! beautiful piece of history!

It’s Immaculate!

#15 5 years ago

Thanks for posting. Also, thanks for the photos as they'll be useful when I restore my not-mint, well used, faded, need to do the CPR pf I have swap, machine.

#16 5 years ago

Amazing there are still games like that out there.

#17 5 years ago

If that chair could only talk...

#18 5 years ago

Wow, that’s pretty incredible.

Makes you wonder what else is hiding someplace?

Are all the cast gift STTNGs accounted for yet?

#19 5 years ago

I think the chair might be more fun than the game.

How much did those NIB BKs go for a few years back?

I sat on it. So did my girlfriend.

We'll both be dead in a week.

That chair reminds me of this.

Dang that is pretty cool! The examples that were in the game room definitely got used as much as that chair

#25 5 years ago

Amazing, think of all the hot riffs that manifested themselves on that! A big part of me hopes the pillow was his as well.

No the pillow was an aftermarket mod.

Couch was in his home studio. Imagine how many famous heavy rock asses sat on that couch!

How did I not know that this pillow existed... Going to have to find it and purchase it... Hope they have other dio ones too.
That is just too amazing.

Beautiful condition!

I have always wanted one of these since I was 12 and first played it at the arcade....ah memories!

No mylar!

How do you know Hef was always sitting while being 'serviced'?

If that was mine I would be putting a Playfield protector on that piece of beauty to preserve it from ever wearing out.

#33 5 years ago

Pretty cool game for sure. I've never seen those tubs in the coin box. I route a few Bally's with that terrible coin box, and now it makes sense why it's such a tight fit to get out of the cab... because you aren't supposed to.

#34 5 years ago

I would burn that nasty F ing chair

Hef’s Hairy balls and bare ass all over it?

Def a blowjob chair. Look at the arms and the front of it

The game is an awesome find

I’d say $14k

#35 5 years ago

Some interesting items/prices on the auction page. $1,600 for a CF backglass!
pasted_image (resized).pngpasted_image (resized).png

#36 5 years ago

Maybe Mylar on the chair.

#37 5 years ago

Wow that thing is SO nice. Hard to believe it is like brand new. I mean, come on, here you have in your hands a PLAYBOY pinball machine, and then, it is at the actual PLAYBOY mansion! How can you not get that pinball machine up and running and play it all the time? I mean, what could be better???

Oh. Wait.

#38 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

14k? For that I would buy one for 2k send it to HEP pay him 7k (give or take) and have one that is nicer then this for less money! I mean you can say you're paying extra for the story but the story is ..... the machine sat in storage for Hef's estate.

I goes to show the fu^%$ing mentality of this place sometimes, 5 downvotes for saying id put a playfield protector on it.

There are a lot of Brain dead bucket babies on this site, get a life dickheads...………...

Hmmm, I just realized that you can only really tell who downvoted a post if you yourself downvote it.

Seems that down/up vote system is a little broken the way it currently works.

That unplayed playfield was probably the only virgin at the mansion.
