Quoted from gweempose:In my opinion, you should NEVER bid on an item until moments before the auction ends. Why tip your hand until you absolutely have to? You should pick the maximum price you are willing to pay, and then bid that price a couple seconds before the auction ends. You don't even have to be in front of the computer. There are sniping services that will automatically put your bid in for you. Sniping is highly effective, as it prevents people from countering with a higher bid. As someone who sells stuff on eBay, I can't stand snipers. But as a buyer, it's the only way to go.
100% right.
All bidding in advance does is raise the final price.
That's great for the seller, and why Ebay encourages this practice in its Newbie bidding explanations.
In a perfect world, everyone would wait until there's just a few seconds left before bidding--as few as they dare.
Can't stand not knowing what the reserve is in the meantime?
Refer back to line #2.
If it doesn't meet the reserve, it'll be relisted with a lower one.
