Fair suggestion, but impossible. If you want to make new rules, like a lot of new stuff, and mix it with some rules/modes/special effects from the original game, you are better off building everything on a new platform. Recreating the elements from the original game as good as possible. But what you can do is nick graphics, fonts, music and even light show sequences data from the original game and reincorporate that. If you want to do that.
The other way around is doable. Run the original game code on a new platform. And then intercept command for sound, DMD, lightshow and then insert new ones, if that that is you gig. See the remakes.
