In an interview I read a long time ago Michael J Fox didn't oppose the pin and having his likeness on it. At the time he was so young that his advisors just said yes or no to projects. Since he was so busy with Family Ties it wasn't a priority. I don't think he would be opposed. If Stern got Bob Gale involved it would be a done deal. He would be all about it.

This proposal of a a BTTF pin sounds familiar as a remake / VE release..., so let me go back in time...

    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/would-data-east-back-to-the-future-vault-edition-come-out-oct-21st-2015

I thought for SURE they would surprise us with an updated BTTF in time for 10-21-2015.. to no avail.

Back To The Future would likely have 3 levels of the playfield.. the main (present), the bottom, (past), and top (future).

I think they missed the window of releasing it at the perfect time, however they would still sell them all through pro / prem / le models I'm sure still a huge following. The franchisee deserves a better pin without a doubt.

So many 60's ,70's, 80's, 90's, 00' movies / music to rehash / create as pinball themes they have an endless supply of them really. I prey for Jaws... but certainly wouldn't mind an updated BTTF.

I'd totally be in with that theme...

Despite their licensing expertise, find it hard to believe the Stern Pulp Fiction rumours. Would be instabuy for me, but doesn't seem like Stern. Dutch, Spooky, Heighway, maybe. Stern are like the Disney of pinball.
But imagine Elwin on Pulp Fiction.

The same Disney that has released 2 Playboy games and Sopranos?

    #106 7 years ago

And look what they did to TWD! They Disneyfied it!

    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I figured he'd cost too much.

I'm not sure how much voice work he would be up for these days at pretty much any reasonable price. I did see he was active at a short speaking engagement back in January, good to see he's able to do functions still.

The LE for back to the future should have the delorean on the cabinet.

Please Gary, please make this pin happen.

I was positive Stern could do this, but a number of people in the past have said that Stern definitely do not have the license for this game. I can't see a new Back to the Future pinball seeing the light of day anytime soon. What a complete disappointment. License to print money for any manufacturer and milk that license hard.

No word on Star Wars artist or code at this stage.

As for Stern being the Disney of pinball....swearing in Metallica....gore in the Walking Dead....swearing in The Sopranos...soft porn in Playboy....swearing and adult humour in South Park....Ghostbusters and the Bill Murray quote at the start of the mode "this man has no dick". Stern can turn on the adult fun!

    #110 7 years ago

Dream theme for me would be "The Blues Brothers" - Imagine the music, call outs, modes and toys that you could have with this theme .... instant classic.

I am sure they could pick up the licence quick enough if they wanted, the BM66 licence deal was supposedly done pretty quick out of no where, fingers crossed someone does a new BTTF pin the soundtrack alone would be phenomenal!

I thought someone had said Dwight will be coding Star Wars as Lyman and Steve have had a falling out??

    #112 7 years ago

Regarding the Disney statements, I think people feel that games like GoT could have been a bit more adult since the content on the show is so adult.

Stern seems to prefer more family friendly product like super hero pins than going all out with adult focused content (TWD and Metallica are recent exceptions).

Too busy with Family Ties? I'm not so sure about that. The final episode of Family Ties aired on May 14, 1989, and the BTTF pinball was released over a year later in June of 1990. Now he might have been too busy with some other project, but I just doubt it was Family Ties.

I saw this thread, and,I just wanted to interject here,I own a new Star wars,Darth Vader pin. This is made by Disney, under their new license !It is sold by Walmart! Its a toy, sells for $79.95! So i don't think Stern is gonna do this theme any more!!

    Quoted from Trekkie1978:

If it's Darth Vader in Rogue One...basically, Rogue One doesn't exist to me. I downright hated the movie.

I think Stern should do a battle of the bands style machine with a few different bands featured:
    Queen, Bon Jovi, Rush
Either that or a mixed theme game that has the features band doing something other than just having a concert:
Nirvana saves the world from Aliens. Pearl Jam lost in time. Etc.

How about a Van Halen pin and do it as David Lee Roth VS Sammy Hagar. I don't care for Stern nor do I care for music pins but that could have the potential to be epic.

    #119 7 years ago

I would totally buy a van halen pin. IF it was the original band. Sammy is horrible.

I think you're missing the advantage of the pin having both lead singers. Not only does it double the size of the pool of hit songs to choose from, it will have broader appeal to the Sammy fans, and sets up some unique and different modes depending on who you choose to play as.

    Guns N' Roses VE.

Though the likelihood of this is similar to their current tour - Not in this lifetime.

100%. I stole the idea from that, but it could go so much further. You could basically have an attack from mars type theme but have the band as the heros. So much could be done with a Bill and Ted type of idea applied to a band.

Yeah, HBO ruined that game and opportunity. You have your hands tied when you pull licenses :/

EDIT: referring to art and voice work

    #131 7 years ago
    Quoted from Cybergoonie:

I sure you mean The Phantom Menace.....right?...right? I've seen Rogue One 9 times.....

I mean Rogue One. The whole premise, is Jalen (sp?) designed a fault in the Death Star that required the Rebels to:

    - break in
    - steal the plans
    - analyze the plans
    - lead an assault against the Death Star
    - aim manually at a target that the targeting computer can't hit
    - find a Jedi or someone unusually strong with the force in order to hit the shot

Then there's the beginning of Star Wars:

Vader - where are the plans they sent you?
    Leia - I don't know what you're talking about.
Vader - what do you mean you don't know what I'm talking about? I saw you fly away about 15 minutes ago...you can't fool me.

Then Vader slaughtering the rebels is out of character. He always sends in the storm troopers to do the dirty work and only used his light saber against Jedi. Now, that scene should've been in episode 3.

What if DP has the license for BTTF? I think that was a rumor at one point, as the follow up game behind TBL.

    Quoted from taz:

What if DP has the license for BTTF? I think that was a rumor at one point, as the follow up game behind TBL.

This was my worst case scenario and why I said we'd never see a new Back to the Future pinball anytime soon. They've taken so long to get out The Big Lebowski and with the current manufacturing issues, I can't see them doing game number two at this stage. So what if they have the BTTF license? It just sits in limbo til expiration?

Always been a big Star Wars fan, but I have a DE Star Wars and think there are more than enough Star Wars pins. I'm hoping I'm pleasantly surprised when it drops, but I'd much prefer Back to the Future.

Going by the 2015 release schedule, Wrestlemania was announced in January and KISS announced in May. Will Stern be back to this release schedule and announce their next game in May 2017?

Jaws. Where is that pic on here showing Jaws rehashed from Kiss

Still we are overdue for Marvel release or perhaps Justice League on the other end.

Same. Sadly I think Stern releasing games more code complete at launch (GOT, GB, AS) means that the games won't be as deep and unique rules wise as many of their past games.

Basically this would be another form of price cutting, kinda like how the cereal and ice cream companies continue to charge the same price but you get less in the box.

I hope I'm wrong and that GOT, AS and GB continue to receive updates that expand on gameplay.

    #144 7 years ago

I would love to see Stern make The Goonies...with call outs from Sean Astin and/or Corey Feldman.

Sadly? I would argue that GOT rules are both deep and unique. Rules for GB are solid. Really the only game lately that has been deficient in rules is Batman 66. We all know Lyman will eventually make that one great also. But it sometimes takes him a long time!

I think the "where's the code?" movement is blown out of proportion.
