Stern posted this on fb almost 3 years ago (when they acquired the licence perhaps?) plenty of development time... my money is on Stranger Things reveal at Comic-Con[quoted image]

If this is it, I'm in. Theme matters (sorry DI fans).

Although I would love stranger things it's jurrasic.

That's where I would put my money if I was a betting man

Didn't we all agree you legally have to mention you own a WWE when making a post aboot themes?

No fucking way is Stranger Things...no way the younger people at Stern have that much influence.

    #604 4 years ago
    Quoted from drfrightner:

Couple things... Jurassic World grossed 652 million vs. Fallen Kingdome $417 that is a massive drop of $235 million dollars. Keep in mind if you adjust the gross then Fallen Kingdom is actually only the 4th highest grossing JP movie out of 5.

This is not quite correct. You are only looking at domestic numbers. The worldwide market is much bigger that the US market for blockbuster type movies. JW did 1.67B and JWFK did 1.3B. Box Office Mojo does not have adjusted world wide grosses for this series.

I'll donate $25 to pinside if its Jurassic
I'll donate $35 to pinside if it's TMNT
I'll donate $100 to pinside if it's JAWS
I'll donate $200 to pinside if it's Stranger Things
I'll donate $250 to pinside if it's Bill & Ted

Coming up on my 8th anniversary so I was going to donate anyway

Stranger things would be the way to go, most watched show on netflix and pretty much everyone is talking about it. Great story, characters and music. So much content to use. Stern should capitalize on the popularity of this show right now.

    Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Hoping for Stranger Things with Brian Eddy designing the game and Lyman on code Lyman has been on Batman 66 code forever so I wouldn't be surprised if he's coding Stern's next title.

    Lyman's on Elvira3.

The numbers I posted are 110% correct and Box Office Mojo does have the adjusted numbers for JP series. I was only posting North America numbers, World wide numbers the studios don't even get half that money. As for example in China they're getting a small fraction of theatrical run and sometimes they don't get any. Many times those markets buy into the film for their market, they pay one price and they own the film in that market. When they're making a new movie most of the time they sell foreign markets in advance to raise the money to make the movie. Studios get about 80% of the gross the opening weekend in north america and it goes down to as low as 30% at some point. Studios goal is to make its money back on a theatrical run but to do that they need to gross back 3 times the budget. Many directors, actors, and producers get points on a theatrical run, the money for the studios is everything after the box office.

Theatrical runs are advertisement for the films for the next 25 years where they really make money... selling rights to cable, netflix, dvd, and licensing.

Either way here is the link to JP series adjusted and unadjusted grosses: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=jurassicpark.htm

As you will clearly see the latest JP film is second to last in gross after the adjustment. We're talking about NA only. BTW many films didn't get tracked for overseas, hence there are no numbers for much older movies.

Can you say Stranger Things??? Stranger Things pinball is coming soon!

Law I've read a few of your posts and nearly 100% of the time you're wrong. You could be right here, but I'm betting on Stranger Things.

Why take this game to comic con if its JP series pinball? No one will care! Its a cosplay comic book convention, Stranger Things fits right in!

Its the new hip thing, Netflix probably is behind the presentation, more PR for Netflix at a time they're about to go head to head with Disney.

I'm betting 110% on Stranger Things.

    We'll see who's right!

I was relieved to be out on Jurassic World - don't want to buy another game at the moment.

But Stranger Things with either Elwin or Eddy.......DAMN YOU STERN!

Well since in GoT update reveal stream Jack said it was a "most excellent game" and it was to be revealed on Comic Con this Thursday, you can draw your own conclusions and get your wallet out :p

    #622 4 years ago

    Well,

Judging on the comments in the separate thread it will be something like Elvira 3 or Jurassic World.

Personally I would like a Stranger Things theme, or maybe a reboot of The Twilight Zone. But high on my want list is a decent Back To The Future machine.

But how cool is this, we are all looking forward on a new title, so much it's worth discussing in large numbers. We are getting like 4+ new titels each year! Pinball is alive and we all love it.

Trust me, you wouldn't want a Stern reboot of TZ...

I'm probably the only person on earth who has never seen Avatar, any Lord of the Rings movie, any Harry Potter movie, a single episode of The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones, a single episode of Stanger Things, any of the Jurassic Park movies after the first one, any of the Transformers movies, any of the Iron Man movies, and I'm sure the list continues. This is by choice. I'm under 40, too.

Unfortunately, I doubt Casino, Goodfellas, Heat, Ronin, The Godfather Trilogy, any Hitchcock movie, or a plethora of others will ever be, (and probably shouldn't be) made into machines.

Very few modern licenses excite me at all. It was a breath of fresh air when BKSOR came out, and Steve Ritchie injected some machismo/balls back into the game. Give me a strong female character/femme fatale ala TNA, and that would work, too. I want a game that gets me pumped up every time I play it. I want a game that gets the blood moving!

Give me a strong, aggressive theme (fast cars, racing, combat, etc.), a kickass soundtrack, some double entendre/comical callouts that aren't cringe worthy, and I'm there! Beating the "bad guys" is an easily understood, and universal theme. As much as I love my family, culinary arts, and the mundaneness of everyday life, I don't want to play a pin about it. Pinball is at its best when it is fantasy/an escape. The Pinside top 10/20/30 agrees with that.

Of course, this is probably a day dream from a guy who was born into the last bastion of red-blooded American males.

Yeah, yeah, I'll go be an old man somewhere else

    #626 4 years ago

I suppose that makes me the second person to never see any of those movies...

Well ceratinly that and most likely another pinsider over the age of 65 I've never seen Stranger Things, never heard of it till pinside. Then again I've only seen bits of Transformers and a few episodes of TWD, no Game of Thrones at all, Lord of the Rings and Avatar not really. I enjoyed the first 2 Iron Man films very much but? Oh my god Im over 65.

Not only that, but the official rules are you can pick 3 or 4 but not 5. Choose wisely!

    1) Good Code / Rules
    2) Great Theme
    3) Excellent Art
    4) Fantastic Music & Call outs / Theme Integration
    5) Awesome Layout

    Thats easy
    Theme
    Layout
    Code

I can get past bad art, did it for the entire 90's almost
Music is important as are call outs but they tend to coincide with the theme so a great theme usually means great music/call outs

That JW theme would cause me to open a vein real fast.

Tough choices. Artwork is what attracted me to pinball in the first place and is one of my favorite things about these games. Yet, strangely enough it's the one thing you really dont need to have a great game. Pretty games arent worth a damn if they're no fun.

    Quoted from TheLaw:

Stern right now is a ship without a rudder. They might finally be letting all the negative reviews, pressure from other pinball companies, and decrease in sales impact their thought process. They're looking for home runs like Metallica, Ghostbusters and ACDC. You don't get them with a barrow black knight, Black Knight was a waste of their time because home buyers wouldn't touch that... I think maybe they overreached with Beatles thinking the #1 rated band of all-time a game based on their music will sell with little to no effort put into the game. I think what they learned is what I already knew Beatles and pinball isn't a match, especially at 8 to 25k. Deadpool is not a huge seller, nice game though, but its not based on the movie, and doesn't feature a rated R mode. If they're looking for a next home run you need a title that both the public home buyer/entertainment center and the pinball buyer can both get behind.

Music pins there is only a few that make sense... Queen, Ozzy, M Crew, I personally think Beastie Boys would ring up the sales.

On the movie side, doing a new Adams Family I think might work, or a movie based on a comedy like Caddyshack, Animal House, Blues Brothers, or even work towards Matrix. How about this wild card go back and do the Terminator series with the color screen.

They need to do something big... say what you want about JJP but their themes right now are all grand slams, Toy Story, Guns N Roses and Wonka.

Stern is falling behind and JJP is ramping up! It's getting very interesting.

PS: I took these pictures for you LAST NIGHT! Now I can't get super incredible pictures of it without pulling it out, taking off the glass, etc. I didn't have time for that. This machine is near perfect. Shopped, collector toys, color screen, powder coated, and more.

Because Law asked me to share them and also because I think that should be a theme Stern should consider now that you can incorporate movie clips.

Stranger Things would be the smart move. Strike while the irons hot and expand the demographic and business. Stern never seems to go for the smart move. Deadpool was a massive hit as the comic book world rejoiced with the brilliance of Ryan Reynolds, its sarcasm, wit and adult content. Stern went for family friendly baby Deadpool?! Jurassic World was the perfect moment to drop the pin. The nostalgia and hype were at a fever pitch. Stern decides to wait till they drop a shit sequel and the mainstream is pretty much over it. So with Stern logic now is the perfect time for a Jurassic Pin. I own the first two pins and have no excitement for a Stern iteration.

I’m still dreaming about a Tarantino pin.
