Quoted from RA77:

I'm wondering if same flipper mechs are used SAM v SPIKE ?
I haven't seen a pic of mini flip mech.
Possibly cabinet acoustics. People are saying new Spike is lighter. Has Stern gone to a different ply for cabinet ?
Maybe i'm just over thinking everything again

I think components are getting smaller, metal back box, plastic aprons, LED boards and less wiring make a difference

Where. Is. The. Mother. Fhaqing. Premium?!?!

Quoted from wcbrandes:

9k US and you get cheap filler wood instead of plywood? Seriously? I guess I was out of the loop. Is this one reason why my AS feels way lighter than say my Sopranos? Why Stern why? It's 9k US!

A big reason for the lighter cabs are the use of the metal back box, no mechanical lock mech, smaller boards, plastic aprons, half the wiring, lock bar latches instead of the massive mechanical receiver and a few other thing that equate to a lighter pinball.

Quoted from vid1900:

It looks like the JJP cab is not plywood, it's Medium Density Fiberboard
It appears to have brad nails in it.
It appears to have a lap joint rather than a locking corner joint.

Medium Density Fiberboard is about 40% heavier than plywood, so that makes for a really nice and heavy cab.

I’ve had every JJP title and bought it NIB, all have been out on route and moved a few times. I don’t recall any cab issues and if I remember correctly, they were all plywood and some even had a laminate on them (WOZ). The only negative I had was on WOZ that laminate came loose in one spot. All the JJPs I’ve owned had a locking miter, not a lap joint.

Quoted from vid1900:

I had a WOZ and it was plywood and Lock Joints.
But clearly in Panzerfreak's photo, Lap Joints were used on his newer JJP.

I agree

The foil decals are pretty slick! Neat sheen to them in the right light
