    Quoted from vid1900:

MOST people who are not pinheads, associate pinball with gambling and delinquency.
Thousands of cities made pinball illegal.

The old "I don't understand it... It must be evil" philosophy.

It's just frustrating to see that kind of narrow mindedness... If pinball machines were gambling machines, don't you think casino owners would be putting them in? Yeah, I get once upon a time they were but kids these days and anyone with kids probably was not even alive during the time that pinballs were manufactured for that purpose.

The majority of people hanging out in arcades are drifters and homosexuals:

Every time I read that article I'm shocked at the incompetence of the author.

I've read the Harry Potter books. Lots of death, killing parents, spells, evil, gambling on quiditch...
If that's the morals JKR wants to remembered by so be it, there good books.
Pinball equals gambling, so pre WWII.
By the way, who says licensing has to be $25 a pin. Contracts can be written any way a lawyer makes them. 25000 HP machines at call it $100 per unit= $2.5 million.
She's a Billionaire, there's always more money to make!

    #606 7 years ago
Quoted from merccat:The old "I don't understand it... It must be evil" philosophy.

    JKR is a smart woman.

She knows that arcades are full of "unsavory" people.

I can go into any busy arcade in any State where Pot is still illegal and within 10 minutes find the dealer who's holding.

I can always find someone who wants to try and hustle me at billiards.

    -

I give JKR credit that she does not sell out and have Harry Potter slot machines. Nothing will ruin your life quicker than getting hooked on gambling or meth.

    #607 7 years ago
    Quoted from vid1900:

that arcades are full of "unsavory" people.

There's that unsavory element everywhere, markets, beach, ball parks. When's the last time you where in London, Paris, NYNY, Vegas?

    #608 7 years ago
    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Pinball equals gambling, so pre WWII.

Although Bally quit making them around 1980, gambling bingo pinballs are still made to this day.

    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

Sure, but how long will it take you to find the Pot dealer at the ballpark?

A 14 year old kid is not going to buy a $40 ticket to a boring ball game, just to buy Pot. He's not going to get a fake ID to go to a bar. If it's summertime and there is a busy arcade in town - that's where he can always score.

    #610 7 years ago
    Quoted from vid1900:

Not in California, there's pot on every corner, just look for the green cross. Legal here.

    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

So a 14 year old kid can walk into any dispensary in California and score???????

Dodger stadium parking lot any home game, unsavory element I tell you.

Vid....pot is not the point here, it's everywhere, they probably get it from there parents. It's not the 70's, you don't need seedy sidewalk dealers anymore. You just go to high school and get it.
The point here is many stoned people have bought tickets to Harry Potter films. No , I kid.
The real point is I feel this argument isn't valid for making a pinball machine.
My vote. Harry Potter would make a great JJP pinball machine. If if JKR is worried about the world and perceptions of things all wrong, well welcome to earth. It's a better place with her stories, a moment to escape from that world we live in with war, death, drugs. But a pinball machine also offers the moment to challenge a game, a theme, escape for a buck, and just plain have fun.
    Her loss, and ours.

    #614 7 years ago

    Regular people

Quoted from Ericpinballfan:It's not the 70's, you don't need seedy sidewalk dealers anymore. You just go to high school and get it.

We never had Pot dealers in high school

    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

If if JKR is worried about the world and perceptions

Regular people hate pinball, they hate video arcade machines, they hate anything that they perceive that kids get hooked on.

There are cities where it is illegal to have pinball or arcade games in your own home.

JKR does not want to be associated with any of that stuff.

    -

You can't use your hobby as a yardstick that other people judge things by.

Bikers love loud pipes "Hey, loud pipes save lives, bitch."

But regular people hate loud pipes.

JKR does not want to license Harry Potter to any motorcycle muffler companies, no matter how much money they wave her way.

    Quoted from J85M:

If they do BOND I'll rob a bank to afford it

Agreed, a BOND machine that covers all eras of the collection rather than a single movie would be pretty damn good.

    Quoted from Psw757:

Agreed, a BOND machine that covers all eras of the collection rather than a single movie would be pretty damn good.

The "007: Legends" game for PS3/360/Wii U was criminally bad, but I could see a similar bond concept working tremendously well for pinball. Call it "Bond Legacy" or something like that. Call modes things like "Operation Grand Slam" or a "Play Poker" video mode. Keep things classy and timeless. As long as they keep making movies, the theme will always be relevant--good business for both operators and the manufacturer.

Anytime I go to a pinball arcade nowadays I see the same thing I did years ago; it's a great place to score some pot, see a homeless guy check every coin return for change, hit the restroom to pack some brown and shoot some glue.

That's why Dave&Busters does not want pinball or the bad element that comes along with it.

    #621 7 years ago

What?! LOL. Ok I suspected but now i know this is a just a put-on because that is just way over the top too ridiculous.

Also D&B doesn't not place pinballs because of any rif-raf it might attract (their bar handles that for them)... Its earnings for the floor space thing. The reality is that most people don't understand how to play so in the same square footage they can make 10-50 times more from a giant app like redemption game that also serves to feed their merch.

Honestly, if there is a perception that needs to be changed with pinball, it is that they are poor performers for the space. As its been said elsewhere that perception is up to us to change by going out and playing on site.

I think do think that is something that is posed to turn around though. With the new app economy, locations are turning away from video to redemption games to keep interest but I think physical pinball can also capture that.

I blame Californication for its' popular use, so sometime around 2009-2014.

    Pretend I'm paralyzed.
    What? - Come on....
This will be fun - You need to shoot some glue.
I'll just lay here. Do what you got to do. I'll be your vessel.

Seriously, you need to get out more

Pinball Petes, Yestercades, The Arcade, Richie Knucklez, Bangbacks, Pin-a-lot, Arcade Legacy, Flipperspiel Wunderland, Boardwalk Arcade, Pintacular, Timeline Arcade, Marvin's Mechanical, Funspot, Starbase, SS Billiards, just off the top of my head.

Turkey ? I go to Turkey every couple of years. Only saw 1 pin there years ago. Where are the arcades you go to ?
I've been to Yemen too. Not sure I want to go anywhere outside of the hotel.

Sansalar in Mersin is really good, Gebze has 2 nice pin arcades about a block from each other. I can always stumble on one, then find the other.

Another cool pin theme for JJP would be Guardians of the Galaxy.

    Like it!

How about a video game theme? I know it's been done with pac man and mario...
    Halo
    Doom
    Borderlands
    Far Cry
    Call of Duty
    Gears of War
....oh more movies and why didn't I think of this earlier:
Evil Dead!!!!! Yaaaaas! Did someone already say that?

    Alien!!!!

    #633 7 years ago

Masters of the Universe would be a dream for me.
    GI Joe
    Thundercats
    Friday the 13th
I assume someone said Breaking Bad
    Twin Peaks (another fantasy land)
    Superfriends
    Lego
    Rambo
    Hellraiser
    Black Sabbath or Ozzy

I like this idea a lot. While not as much of a household name as the other Marvel characters the movie made tons and the second is likely to do the same. A great balance of appeal for young and old. Plus lots of humor, the space elements make for great visuals, and a great soundtrack.

How about a "Ramble on" multi ball, ???
Hangman, Hangman, wait a little while...
    Stairway to heaven skill shot????
Led Zepplin theme , coolest band that ever was....this would make a great table!!!

Well Black Sabbath is the coolest with Slayer almost tied, as much as I enjoy LZ music isn't right for me with pinball, need speed, speed is what we need. Actually I change my mind Slayer is the coolest, lets make it happen.

    #638 7 years ago

I still say the 4th title should be one of the following:

    The Munster's
    Harry Potter
Quantum Leap - a time travel pin.
    War of the Worlds
    Outer Limits
    Invasion - like AFM

    #639 7 years ago

Because of the popularity of MB, .... I would think "The Munsters" would be a good choice, but alas, it's somewhat 'dated', my own personal choice would be to see a "Deadpool". #2 would be Antman! Whatever it is, it must have instant name recognition for the 18-25 group! Warcraft is another one that comes to mind.

    Allen

    #640 7 years ago

Once again, please JJP no band themes. Had enough of those from Stern already!

Would love to see Harry Potter if they can obtain the license, science fiction or something really cool that's also decently family friendly.

    #641 7 years ago
    Quoted from Ericpinballfan:

    She's a selfish fool then!
Shame for JJP, because I would send the 3-4k deposit today.
It would also top 25,000 units easily.
But Vid, if I may. There's always Hope.

She is a billionaire already. Why would she actually care about the little bit of money that a HP pinball machine would make her?

    #642 7 years ago
    Quoted from Skyemont:

Quantum Leap - a time travel pin.

How about a Time Travel pin that flips over to an EM during game play?? Rotating playfield, don't think That's been done yet? (VID?)
But if we are going time travel, then its Back to the Future..(just drop the tag "the pinball machine").
But-Data East/Stern/Jersey Jack...don't know if that would ever pan out with rights/Lic/copyrights/movie etc...

    #643 7 years ago
    Quoted from zr11990:

Because it's the right thing to do for all of us Fans! Its pinball people, were not changing the world or solving world hunger or drought.
Just trying to have some fun while were on this marble for such a blip of time.

Breakshot kind of did that, kinda sorta.

Rotation VIII by Midway did that:

Well Black Sabbath is the coolest with Slayer almost tied,

The clown of rock, Ozzy, almost singlehandedly ruined the legacy of Black Sabbath.

The only unsoiled Sabbath would be with Ronnie James Dio at the helm.

Thus the only choice is Slayer!!!!!!!!!!!

Now "Sana'a" clicks; I had assumed it was laid back Californian-speak for Santa Ana. Years ago I was stopped by heavily armed "security forces" close to the Yemen border in Oman; that was close enough to Yemen for me. I can't possibly imagine a Pinball arcade there.

Keeping on topic that brings up a great theme idea though - "Travels of Vid1900; the Pinball Adventure"

Yes, but if she were only as smart as some pinsiders here, she could turn that $1,000,000,000 into $1,000,050,000 !

    Seems like a no brainer.

Note: I would LOVE a HP pin, but suggesting JKR is lacking business sense is asinine. She'd net as much from 1 speaking engagement as she'd ever make off pinball... and not have to worry about her IP.

    #648 7 years ago

    NO Band pins please.
