Not too shabby. One round of cleaning to get up the big nasties. Tomorrow if it's nice I may take it outside and do a round of polish on it.

Kind of neat to see a playfield with a big gaping hole in the middle

Ordered parts to light up the pops and going to swap the skirts and caps.

Lamp boards out...freshly tumbled parts done...
And the switches were dropped below the playfield in preparation for playfield cleaning....

So...playfield side rails are off and this is ready for Treasure Cove....

I had to make a little tent for it though. Last time I did this I wasn't prepared for how much it really splatters so now I'm good

I don't want treasure cove splatters all over my nice purple walls

That is a great concoction, love following your threads Geck!

#55 9 years ago

Thanks...I work with what I got!

#56 9 years ago

I have found that it doesn't take much of the treasure cove polish to do the job. Saved me a bunch of cleanup when I figured that out.

#57 9 years ago

Yep. Less is MORE with this stuff. The big thing with me is that I learned that you absolutely need a good drill. The first time I used it, I used my cordless drill. I thought it was fast enough...but I guess not. I finally bought a fairly decent variable speed corded drill and it was like night and day!

Glad this worked out better for you than it did for me. I attempted doing the exact same thing 3 weeks ago. I froze the same large mylar with an air duster can and then tried peeling it up. Instead of coming off nice and clean like yours did, it left all sorts of gunk everywhere, and it also TORE OFF THE PAINT around the three orange lightning bolt inserts in the middle of the pop bumpers. At that point, I had a freakin' conniption. After various attempts to rectify it, I tried hand-painting the white bubbles around the inserts, and then put down several layers of varnish over it. So it's back to looking presentable. But what an ordeal that was.

Do you intend to replace that same mylar piece?

I ordered a replacement mylar, but ended up not using it because I went for a playfield protector instead.

#59 9 years ago

Yeah, this came up pretty well. The only reason I really pull mylar is if it's starting to come off already. I rarely pull it up just for kicks. So in my mind it's already starting to let go when I do that.

You have to take your time. And this took me a few minutes but your mention about it leaving gunk on is normal. Not sure if you read up on it beforehand, but the way the freeze technique works is separating the mylar from the adhesive. Mylar comes off and the adhesive stays. You then need to remove the adhesive which can be done either with goo gone or flour. I'm a big fan of goo gone and a plastic razor.

Not planning to replace the mylar. IMO it's not necessary on a home use machine.

#60 9 years ago

I have started using plastic razor blades + goo gone to take up the "goop" with better success than using an old credit card. These are the ones I grabbed:

In that case, ordered!
Nice find, I'm running out of old dead credit cards...

I pick mine up when I do orders from pinrestore as well...

I put one of those remote controlled RGB light strips set to purple in the back of my CFTBL. It really did a nice job of making the backboard decal look cool. Something to consider if you wanted to lighten up the back area by the lanes.

Found a bit of time and ambition tonight. Polished up the playfield and got one coat of wax down.
Tomorrow hopefully two more coats...

nice, doing mine soon but I have some slight wear at the bottom of the L and M unfortunately - was going to try and do a black touch up and then put a playfield protector on to keep costs down for the moment.

#70 9 years ago

Nice work!

#71 9 years ago

Yeah, this playfield has some wear in the normal spots, but I looked for a bit to find one that didn't have that wear by the bottom.

#72 9 years ago

Great pics. I can only think of a couple pins that would be a nightmare to be a full teardown and Creech is one. I am fearing the day of tearing down my Addams.

#73 9 years ago

Funny thing is I was a little concerned too, but in the end once the ramps were out there really wasn't much at all to take apart. In fact this was the easiest teardown I've done in a long time...

Then again my last one was TZ, so I guess maybe its all relative....

#74 9 years ago

Now that Pinfest is behind me time to dig back in...Playfield is nice and shiny now...as good as it's going to get!

Treasure cove'd, 4 coats of wax...

2014-05-08 19.56.08.jpg2014-05-08 19.56.08.jpgPut the metal playfield side supports back on. I was a little nervous to let the playfield sit in the rotisserie for a long time unsupported. And when i went to put these back on, it was sagging by probably close to 3/4" in the middle!

2014-05-08 20.54.12.jpg2014-05-08 20.54.12.jpgOh, did I mention PARTS?

Usual stuff, new star posts and stuff.
Doing the teal pop skirts, caps, and stuff.

Also not shown, I'm going to be installing lights in the pops. I'm down this far, I might as well!

#79 9 years ago

I'll be interested to see how your machine looks with the teal pop bumpers while keeping the rest of the plastics orange. I picked up all new teal lane, narrow and star posts to compliment the teal pop bumper caps and skirts. (still waiting on the return of my nice new clear coated playfield from HSA

for lighting the pop bumpers, which route are you taking? always lit with the GI? or flashing by triggering them using the coils or tieing into the lightning bolts?

#80 9 years ago

Tying them up to the GI lightens up a quite dark area there, while the flashers only gives the effect when pops are activated.

GI, my 2 cents

Hey Gecko, when you put your pop lights in why not these?get-attachment-4.aspx.jpegget-attachment-4.aspx.jpeg

I have mine lit all the time with the g.i., and after thinking and planning skirt colors to match the playfield I find you NEVER see them anyway

I like mine just because I wanted a little more light on the playfield up in that area.

#84 9 years ago

Oh, sorry.....I meant the skirts. I love the lit up bumpers With everything off the playfield, it looks like the skirt colors are gonna be sooo cool. Then you put everything on and you have to squint to see them
Love my creech and can't wait for the soon to be released speaker panel mod.

2014-04-26 08.58.11.jpg2014-04-26 08.58.11.jpg
#87 9 years ago

j_m: I went with the teal bumper caps and skirts, and orange lane guides and star posts. I also tied my lights into the coils instead of the G.I. because I have an illuminated backboard, so there's no need for me to light up that area.

Why go with the teal bumpers and orange lane guides?

Well, it comes down to the playfield artwork. That area depicts a sunset over water. The lane guides are above the water surface with an orange sunny background. The jet bumpers are underwater. So in my opinion this color combination matched the background better. But it's just a matter of preference.

Sorry about the low quality of the image, it's just a cellphone pic.

Time to work on making these nice shiny parts go back in their homes...it's starting to look like a playfield!

Some more work tonight. Playfield posts and things like that. Also did the pop bumpers. I wasn't sure about the teal pops with everything else being orange, but I kind of like it. Kind of makes it feel like it's very "aqua" right there.

More to come...!

But I think I'm making forward progress now finally....

I got the wiring done for the pops and got them back together. Bulbs in the topside of the playfield. Started swapping in new coil sleeves. Hopefully things will move ahead quickly now...can't wait to play me some creature!

Looking great Gecko. Is there a reason you went with green pops instead of teal?

#96 9 years ago

They are actually teal, but the flash from the camera tinted them. I wasn't being a good photographer yesterday when I took that shot

#97 9 years ago
Quoted from NJGecko:

Me too! ....and maybe this time I won't fry the machine!

#98 9 years ago

You didn't fry it, you just let out the smoke!

Better picture without the flash....
