Quoted from Coindork:LOL, WTF is this thread even about anymore?
Fanatical hobbyists yelling at windmills to fill the void created by an initial low res leak and subsequent lack of information
An update on that IGN comment thread:
I just want to give props to Ryan Wanger for posting this great, thoughtful reply to those poor IGN video game fans that just don’t get pinball...

They add the same few things on all games(invisiglass, speakers, shakers, numbered plaque, etc) and only real difference is the art and the trim color from game to game, is that really what justifies spending and extra $1.5K among different titles?
If one were to sell their JP LE vs Premium one year from now, I would assume that the absolute value of dollars lost on the sale of their LE would be less than on the sale of their Premium? Do you feel this assumption is valid? If so, one would have to be a fool to NOT buy an LE (at least if you’re going to buy a JP and sell it eventually). I don’t mind being wrong if there is a good counter argument here...
Quoted from wesman:But seriously, not feeling the same way as everyone else regarding any viewpoint, doesn't make a person cranky or wrong.
What does make a person cranky or wrong?
Quoted from pickleric:I want to love Wonka, the layout looks amazing.
Theme integration / mission objective wise I get more excited about trapping dinosaurs, shooting missiles, and defending against computer viruses vs. collecting chocolate bars.
This exactly. I’ve played a lot of Wonka already. Layout is great. I just wanted it to be much more of a mode based journey, and I guess that’s just a personal preference but one that seems to be shared by a sizable number of pinsiders, for whatever that’s worth. And yes I know there are some modes in it but they feel haphazard to me for a variety of reasons.
Meanwhile though none of us have played it of course, JP’s code structure makes me excited: Trap dinosaurs and get perks, move along a map to escape the island, rescue people along the way, with side missions of fighting the trex and restoring the control room. Hard to deny it tells a story that’s easily conveyed and visualized while having depth.
Plus really interesting multiball rules like hitting the car to change which side has jackpots but risk/reward of increasing jackpot amounts the fewer the shots. Loved that.
Here’s my takeaway on rules as far as I can tell
Main modes:
- hit 3 white shots to spell MAP
- then hit trex ramp which moves your virtual car to the next of two spots (AKA paddocks) on the map. The specific paddock is determined by which way the car is facing when you hit the trex ramp
- next, depending on the specific spot you are on you get to capture a specific dinosaur to add a unique perk, which is represented by a roving green shot. This is accomplished first by hitting ‘set trap’ targets, then the helicopter shot, and then the now flashing green shot. While you are trying to do all this, the green dinosaur shot moves towards the orange shots that represent humans to rescue before the dino gets there. Rescue enough and get an extra ball.
- keep moving to end of map to get one of the mini wizard modes
Side mission: trex modes
- hit truck 4x to spell trex, then hit trex ramp to start these modes that have the trex head move on the premium and le
Side mission: control room
- shoot far left scoop to start these modes when lit. Not sure how they get lit though.
- play these modes to get another mini wizard mode
Pteranodon:
- shoot the back right ramp a bunch of times, then a switch hit frenzy starts. Get a bunch of switches and then hit the back right ramp again.
I’m guessing the last mini wizard mode has you collect all the fossils but I’m not sure how to do that.
Digging the rules so far.
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:Making the shot from the lockdown button would give you more points but you could still use the flipper buttons. (Similar to using the handles in demo man)
I like this idea
