The playfield artwork and sculpts are lagging and less than stellar. But if trex eats the ball, all is forgiven ...

Quoted from seenev:

Word is coming in that's its an original theme called "License Free Generic Dinosaur Island Featuring Wayne Knight"

If only Stern were that smart with Jaws license we could get a jowls pin made.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Yup! Good eye.
Premium has at least 2 magnets (inlane and raptor cage).
Or it could be an up-post. There looks to be a little space around the metal/.

I count three up posts, all on left side.

I think people are finally burned out from so many new machines in a short time. The most enthusiastic fans for every theme will hype the game coming and going. And if many of those JP fans (who would be the most likely buyers) aren’t buying LE’s, but instead were settling for premium, does that signal demand for LE’s is shrinking? I realize sales have only been open for 1/2 a day, but will the LE’s sell out at distributors quickly or will they still be available at Christmas?

I am guessing LE’s sit for awhile just like for DP and BKSoR. Manufacturers should consider lowering the number of LE’s they make in the future. Capping production at 250, keeps them feeling limited. Today distributors started with 500 JP LE’s and we will see what happens.

Story of the day - A man with 25 pinball machines asks his wife if she thinks they should buy a new pinball, because it’s not like all the rest. And btw, it is an LE with all the bells and it costs $9k .... He wakes up in the hospital and can’t remember a thing. His face is bloody and and his body is heavily bandaged. When they get home he sees the 25 pins and becomes overjoyed knowing they are his. He is dancing around like a kid and life is great. His wife answers him,” no, I don’t think it would be such a good idea, do you?”

Quoted from TimeBandit:

I have been pin-bored for the best part of a year. Sold down to just a few keepers and feeling pretty sleepy on the whole thing.
I'm awake now I'll tell you! This is a top shelf effort from Stern. Go Keith! Premium all the way!

Other than 2 trailers and hi Rez pics, we haven’t seen any gameplay, right? I don’t want to miss it

We don’t have any idea what the graphics will look like or what sounds and callouts will be. There have been no reveals or leaks of either because ..... they are far from being done. I get the feeling JP2 might only have v.2 software and that the amount of work to “finish” the game might take until end of 2019. Plenty of time to find and play the game before making a decision on whether to buy it (for anyone other the blokes in AU).

Watched all three JP movies on syfy channel this weekend. Dino eats balls. Anybody else starting to want this pin?

#2180 4 years ago

JW3 on FX3 has better art and graphics and looks incredibly fun to shoot. But it isn’t real.

Quoted from TheCapn:

I'm curious as to how much art style can really change someones mind on a buy or pass. Would art like this help or hinder your interest in the new JP?[quoted image]

Make it happen.

#2488 4 years ago

Way cooler than what I was expecting. JP looks fun to shoot and I appreciate Stern taking the risk to create custom video content vs using movie scenes. I don’t want all the games I play to be the same and this feels so different from a standard 2-flipper Stern. Will be playing this when available but it is way too early to rate the game.

#2492 4 years ago
Quoted from PanzerFreak:

Yeah. The game comes across as very unique versus being a modified copy of another layout. Both of Keith's first two pins don't really look like anything else out there.

Judging how seamless the objectives and gameplay are implemented, one notices Keith had a unique vision and his team implemented it. Everyone playing JP appeared natural and effortless, so while I may need to brush up my game skills to do well, I’ll be having fun rounding up dinosaurs too.

#2700 4 years ago

I'd like to buy a JP2 LE, but need a sugar daddy to make that dream come true. I'd settle for a JP2 premium, pending flesh on plastic testing. I'm not ruling out JP2 pro either, especially if Dino is caught mouthing balls when all I want him to do is spit them out. All models of JP pinball are stone-cold winners!! and everyone planning to buy one is smart!!

Watching the new feature videos show lots of kinetic activity whether playing pro or premium JP. Leaning towards a premium, unless a few mods like copter blades and a tipping teradactyl are developed for the pro. That would be enough to go pro. Of course swapping trex for a ball gobbler would be the ultimate mod for pro.

Stern will be running these for three years. Plenty of time to play game on location and watch the code become 100% before buying.

#2788 4 years ago

Hillbilly announcer is a placeholder, right? Really needs to be replaced with sound actor with Richard Attenborough voice. Sadly missing sound actor callouts from Goldbloom too. The sound alikes would record new script in familiar voices.

#2793 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

Hope so, but its not TWD bad....is it??

Not that bad, but in some ways like LOTRLE hairdick! In this case, once you hear it you can’t unhear it. TWD callouts were bad and XMen had a few hated characters. So when you hear anything resembling hillbilly on a Stern, you tend to be gun-shy. Fool me three times ......

#2801 4 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Yep it was quick

Following that, Deadpool was quick too. It came out with code around v .80 and within three months it was complete. Rules and objectives were then adjusted further until DP code was fully baked. Stern displayed a great openness to receiving feedback and a commitment to finishing code. Stern integrated cool new video assets in a way not seen before. And this effort continued from release until code completion, in one-final-push fashion, which was only previously seen with Maiden. The progression of video development was Aerosmith, BM66 (only one featuring synch’d video clips from source), Maiden, DP and BKSOR.

This is Keith’s second rodeo and from the teaser videos, expect code to follow a similar trajectory this time. Meaning an evolved video style and almost finished code at launch, continued effort to complete game within a few months and whip creme, deez nuts and cherries over the last months. Done! Also this games appears to has a shallower rule set than Maiden. It is an interactive map, four mb’s and a wizard mode - EZPZ. PLUS players are interactively competing against each other! No mention of this new aspect to rules was uncovered by the pinball media, either. Sheesh we all saw numbers on the map representing the players, but then what ??? maybe it’s best to leave that stone unturned for another day.

Was in Walmart today and saw all kinds of Jurassic World toys, including a trex with a swinging head, opening mouth and a swinging tail. The head looked similar in size and shape to one on JP2. JW edged most of the JP stuff off the shelf.

There were Toy Story branded toys all over the place and I am sure it was on account of Toy Story 4 release this year. One toy I did not see anywhere though was a Toy Story pinball machine, poor Toy Story pinball (ok so Walmart doesn’t make such a good outlet for selling pinball machines).

I looked for the Willy Wonka toy section and came up empty handed too.

There was an assortment of Deadpool products that included video games, action figures, toys, costumes, clothes and bed sheets. For same reason as Toy Story, no DP pinball machines were seen either.

Quoted from Hazoff:

R u serious? theres a ton of fun and dare I say much much better pins in the recent times than anything from the 90's. I love the 90's stuff as well but I don't think the pins in the last 2 decades lack fun factor.

I can count the # of UNFUN games released in the last two decades on one hand and without removing my mittens first. Let’s see - Avengers, Jetsons, Thunderbirds.

#2950 4 years ago
Quoted from cooked71:

Sure, all pinball is fun to a certain extent.

.. and fun enough to spend 4 quarters on to play a few times. Most games aren’t fun enough to buy, but that would be impractical.

Nice, thanks. I noticed that artwork is different on both sides of premium and LE models. Pro looks like it uses same image inverted. Unique artwork on both sides is a huge selling point because Stern rarely strays from using the same on left as right sides. So am shocked Stern didn’t highlight that as a feature.

Stern can’t build JP pins fast enough. Everybody wants to play one one. A lot of people are ready to buy one. Maximum hype and minimum supply. We know Stern can quickly scale to build 50 games a day or 250 pins a week or 1,000 pins a month. Technically Stern can build 3k games in a quarter. What if Stern ran nothing but JP2 for rest of this year? They could satisfy the urgent demand and make bank. Then they can run Elvira and whatever. Think about it - boom to bust in three months - and then Stern moves on. Maybe come back in six months and run another 1k machines and repeat for balance of license. Stern is King of Pinba!! and it’s a good time to feel the Stern!

Just got my fill of JP2 ..... for the day. Three, uninterrupted, blissful hours on a pro. I will be getting JP2 for sure, now. Had planned on buying a premium, but was so impressed with the pro, that it has become my choice. Still need to play the JP2 premium to confirm, but I’ve mentally downshifted to a pro after having so much fun on a pin I know can be found for $5.5k.

#3458 4 years ago

Curious if those with pooling issue have tried to remedy? On JJPOTC thread, one person explained you could remove star post and use a heatgun to warm and smooth the clear. He reported good results and that it was drying hard. Star post could then be returned with a washer underneath. Did that fix his problems for good??? Anybody tried anything like that on their Stern playfield?

#3511 4 years ago

JP2 unboxing video brought a tear of joy down my cheek. Goldbloom’s character should be featured more prominently in Stern’s game. He’s sooo sexy.

Really looking forward to seeing the premium. Looks good in flyer and I’ll bet it really pops (that seems to be important). Plus it has the angry Dino head.

JP2 is going to be “ a winner” for Stern.

Everybody ready for the weekly update of Pinside 100? Expect to see a new #1 and for it to maintain that position into the foreseeable future. For 15 years we’ve had the same top five, minus a few brief periods of lust for new releases. This week’s contestant is the real deal. The world has changed and you were there!

Spinners are great and look pretty cool in reflective metal. Adding some scenery to them might be even better.
