I want to take my boys to play some pinball this weekend in the far NW suburbs, preferably out in McHenry County in Illinois.

    Any thoughts?

I want newer Sterns (AC/DC, Metallica, X-Men, Avengers, etc.) because we need to decide what NIB we're going to buy.

Don't wanna buy before playing them all. But don't wanna drive an hour or more...unless I have to.

If you find one let me know! Enchanted Castle on Lombard is a hike but you will have the line up you are looking for.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid having to go that far, but the chances of me finding anything other than a bar with a random pin out in this area are probably slim.

Didn't know if the places like Chuck E. Cheese or similar have pins, or if it's just all the redemption crap (that my boys love and I abhor).

Any idea what their current lineup of pins includes?

If you want to play all of the new Sterns, then go to Gameworks in Schaumburg. I haven't been there yet since they released X-Men and Avengers, but I've played Tron, Iron Man, Rolling Stones etc. for hours and hours. They usually have the newest 6 or 7 games from Stern set up and playing. They will usually get new games quickly too. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a Metallica pin there now, but who knows.

I think Metallica and South Park

I heard that the pins at Gameworks are poorly maintained. I guess I will have to go and see for myself.

gameworks has only like 4 upstairs, the rest are downstairs on ticket redemption (4.5 credits)

I believe chicago HQ expansion (aka beercade) in the city opens thursday night, supposedly over 20 pinball machines at launch (mostly stern), but older titles too:
