Hello, so I’ve been trying to understand these for a while and I feel like an idiot at this point.

Full disclosure but I feel like it should fit in well. I am working with an old Dixie-Narco 240M/138-6 Pepsi Machine, as well as a Rowe change machine.

I don’t understand how you figure out how to update these or which ones you update. I don’t understand any of it.
I have a USA15 and I found a few posts on the forum about them being used in pinball machines. Now the USA15 I have is pretty old, how on earth do I make sure it will accept modern bills?
In my Rowe machine I have an MEI Bill Validator and it was hooked up to a BC-25 board. All I want is for the machine to take new 1’s and 5’s.

For my USA15 in the soda machine, it doesn’t take the money at all. It buzzes but cannot pull the bill in. Probably something broke inside or the belts are bad. Who knows. I was told it’s cheaper to buy a new one.

The main thing is, if I want to get my arcade off the ground here and make some money, the change machine and soda machine have to work, but I am just clueless about these damn DBVs. Can someone give me the beginners course?
I’ve seen tons of posts on KLOV and other coin-op forums, but I don’t want to post there. Besides I figured that we use DBVs in pinball machines too, so this could help others who are probably confused as well.

    Any wisdom is greatly appreciated!

    Quoted from Coyote:

The first one you pictured is a Mars AE25xx model. It does NOT have the flashport logo, so it can NOT be updated by you. It would need to be sent in and reprogrammed. If the unit had have happened to have the "FlashPort" logo (looks something like this, best I could find in a hurry.. https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images3/1/0313/03/mei-mars-ae-2631-d5-flashport-bill_1_7a926154296301d78de8776c13919980.jpg ) if your unit had that, you would then need to buy the flash programmer which runs between $100 and $200. (In that case? I'd just look at eBay for another unit.)
The Dixie Narco I know nothing about. Given the age, it may not be able to be reprogrammed by you either, sadly.

Thanks for the help! I cannot see the picture, it comes up as 403 forbidden.
As for the AE25, all I have to do is try to find whatever the newest version of the AE25 is?

    Quoted from PinMonk:

Why do you want to update the VN2511? For the new $5 bills? It currently works with 1s and old 5s, right?
You don't have an AE2511, you have a VN2511, the one for Vending machines. AE is for Amusement Equipment.
    Personally, I'd just buy a flashport-compatible VN2511that already takes $1s and new $5s for $85 shipped here:
    ebay.com link » Mars Mei Vn 2511 U3 117v Bill Valator Accepts 1 5 Includes Harness
And sell the one you have for $65. For the $20 difference you have a validator that can take $1s and $5s and be flashed in the future.

Yes, it takes old 5’s and was rejecting new bills. I didn’t know that it was so easily updated. I’ll go that route! Thank you so much. I was under the impression the “U3” number referred to how new/old it was. I’ve seen u5 and u7.

    Quoted from ryanbrooks:

Throw the Dixie DBA in the trash as fast as you can. WPC games came from the factory with the 12 pin Dixie to 9 pin MEI harness. But chances are, the changer in the Dixie can machine will need some love also. It’s most likely running a Mars TRC-6800H changer. Your local MEI distributor can sell you a refurbed changer, DBA and harnessing for probably less than $200

Yes I’m bummed cuz I already bought a second DN USA15 and it was a hunk of junk too...
So all I have to do is find out who my local MEI distributer is and buy the goods from them.
I have 2 changers as well that happen to be the exact same and I have no clue if they work, they don’t do anything.

Do you know what model changer I’m looking at to use with my soda machine? I’ve got the DBV now and I just dunno which Mars changer you’re supposed to use on these things
I couldn’t find out who would be a local MEI vendor. The best I got was to call Automated Services.

    Quoted from PinMonk:

Soda machine you'll want a VN series. Did you get a flashport-enabled VN that takes the new $5s?

Yes, I bought this one you linked earlier. Now that I have this all I need is the changer for my soda machine.

I know this can be used with my Rowe token dispenser too, which is great! But I won’t be using that till later when I get the boards fixed.

The help has been fantastic! Thank you so much!

I went this route. It looks like it’s gonna cost more than $200 but at least I can finally make money off this 500+lb monster.
