sorry as this may be stupid question but we all start somewhere. Some lamp sockets have 1 tab ,some have 2. Can they be used for same uses? Are they meant to be used at different areas? I understand some of different lengths but unclear about tabs. I am re-wiring coin door and wondering about lamp socket/holders to put at coin chutes. Any advice about those tabs is appreciated.

The socket with the single tab is used on the playfield where there is a common lamp ground braid running from socket to socket. See the socket on the right where the braid was soldered to the support where the screw hole is? That support is electrically tied to the socket base. The solder tab is connected to the socket nipple and has an individual wire that goes back to the lamp board SCR.

The other socket on the left is technically the same. This socket isn't attached to the playfield or in a location where a lighting ground braid is attached. One of those tabs is connected to the socket base and the other to the socket nipple. That one was probably used on the coin door for the coin window lights or similar.

So basically every socket has "1 wire in and 1 wire to ground/out"?

Yep. On games with a lamp matrix, the sockets will have 3 tabs. The third solder tab isn't attached to anything on the socket electrically but used only as a place to solder one leg of the diode.
