Hello all
I’m new to the pinball world and I have a beautiful pharaoh that just died on me. All the light work and sound but won’t load games.
I was able to get a 7 on the diagnostic board which leaded me to believe I needed new roms. I ordered a set from Dave when checking my manual it showed that the IC20 and IC17 were originally backwards in the game. I tried switching them both ways and now I have no under the playfield lights and I’m getting a error code 9

Hopefully you meant swapped u17/u20 and not plugged in the wrong way that sometimes blows eproms.

9 is probable cmos ram bad... the original issue with the 7 may have been sockets and not roms. You can tell that sockets need to be replaced if you can rock or pull the eproms in them out without a tool, the retention is bad and they need to be replaced. (The sockets)

If you don't know how to solder on boards sent the mpu board to someone to have the sockets and chips replaced. The ram in question would be the one right next to U17.

I learned this recently.
The little notch in the top refers to the correct placement of the chip. So if the notch on top of the chip lines up with the notch in the socket then it’s lined up properly.

In the picture all your chips were seated correctly and someone just put the labels on facing the other directly, but the chips were inserted properly.

If you swapped them around and didn’t ensure the notches are on top, you blew them up.

If that’s the case, you may want to send the board out as slochar said. There are many professional who can fix them.

Yes I definitely put the chips in the right way. Just swapped them because they the manual said they were different then how they were in already in the game.

Coin op Cauldron comes to mind

I have the same question regarding system 7 EPROM numbering. Are the manuals wrongs regarding the placement? I have looked at 3 different boards and according to the manual U17 and U20 are in the wrong places based on the stickers on the EPROMs (which are original) but one of the boards boots.
