I have a Batman forever that was cutting out when multiball was activated and the guy I bought it from said I needed to replace the ribbon cables. I got the cables in today and changed them but now no music plays when I cut it on and try to play. The phrase “suppose you flip for it” constantly repeats anytime a sound is suppose to activate. I double checked and made sure they were seated right and also went back to the old ribbon cables. Any ideas on what I need to look at? Everything works except the sound

Bump. Any ideas on where to start?

#3 5 years ago

So does it do the same thing with the old cables now too?

#4 5 years ago

Yes it does the same thing with the old cables now. I’m at a loss on what to check. I’ve looked over the boards and don’t see anything loose

Do you know how to put it in test mode? Not familiar with this game, but put in sound test, and try wiggling cables and connections to see if you have cold solder joints on the connector. Maybe the guy wiggled the one with the ribbon cable and it made a change.

#6 5 years ago

Ok thanks I’ll try to figure out how to do that

The only ribbon cable that would make a difference would be the one going from the MPU to the sound board. The other 2 are for the DMD display.

Can you post a picture of the MPU?

#8 5 years ago

Yes that’s one I changed the cable from mpu to sound board and it started doing this.

The current cable is definitely damaged. Can you also post a picture of the ribbon cable plugged into the sound board?

#10 5 years ago

Just curious, where are you seeing damage in the current cable? The sound cable not shown is brand new but I can post a picture if needed

#11 5 years ago

Yes, picture of the ribbon cable plugged into the sound board is needed.

Looks like damage there in the middle of the cable. The original ones usually get damaged from trying to pull the ribbon cable behind a board that is partially or fully screwed down and rips across sharp edges of leads on the back of the board.

The red is paint the spilled from the previous owner on the cable if the red is what you are talking about

Personally, it does not look like red paint to me.

I misread your statement. I did not need to see a picture of the new ribbon cable by itself. I need to see a picture of the ribbon cable plugged into the sound board.

Here’s the photo of it plugged into sound board

Though, you can swap the end at the MPU board if it is easier. As long as both ends match up with the red wire to the left or to the right, you should be good. See how the board is labeled pin 20?

Swap one end of the ribbon cable and see how that works out.

That was it! Thank you so much. I feel like a complete idiot right now

#17 5 years ago

Nah only dumb not to ask for help when you need it. Congrats on an easy fix!

#18 5 years ago

Just always supply pictures when asked. It is easy ro overlook things like this.

The next possibiity wpuld have been a bad PIA on the Rottendog MPU. Yes, there have been failures on new boards too.
