My buddy just got a new WOZ and after a couple dozen games or less, the LCD went out and won't come back on. Beyond turning the machine off/on, and reseating cables, what are my troubleshooting steps before just telling him to submit a ticket? I'll be going over there in a little bit to help him out.

I worked on a game that had a bad LCD out of box.
It took awhile to realize that it was the monitor as it affected other areas of the game. Rare but this could be # 2.
JJP promptly replaced it.

The cable on the monitor end can be flakey. Check that first. Can't easily see it so you have to go by feel.
Check it with the game on and see if it is the monitor connection.

Its probably the cable going to the monitor. very touchy

#5 10 years ago

You're both right. It was the cable at the monitor. Thanks.

Next problem! The winkie guard switch just about fell off from the bracket. I found both screws, but are there supposed to be nuts to hold it on or what?
And where is the switch arm supposed to be? Above or below the solenoid arm?

And I can't figure out how to edit the thread title on my phone.

In theory and referencing bally /williams games, you would think the bolts go through the switch first, then screws right into the bracket. I'll look at my game

#9 10 years ago

There are two nuts on the end of the screws. Yours must have come off

Actually, I found a nut plate and plastic shield in the cabinet. Stuck to the speaker of course. Did I put it back together properly?

Somone on the JJP google group (i would highly suggest you email JJP to join or at least have your friend join) had an issue with the winkie drop target and Lloyd posted a couple of completed assembly pics. Maybe these will help.

good luck! if you get stuck, just open up a ticket with JJP, their support is A+

Awesome, thank you! I need to swap the plastic guard.

This might sound a bit odd or overkill, but put a few dabs of hot glue on the back and or front of the screws after getting everything setup correct. The hot glue will help keep the screws from working their way loose over time form the vibrations of the game. Hot glue is easy to peel off at a later date if you need to remove the screws.

You would think think that dam dist. that sold it to him would have helped him out. But i did hear he was tied up with his sons rehersal dinner and wedding this weekend. LOL
I also heard he received 5 new standards @ 3 pm on thursday and had that one to him by 5 pm, and two others two hours away before midnight!!!!! thats sevice. LOL

Enjoy the game

You could also just put crazy glue on the end of the screw before tightening it.

This is a great idea.

There isn't a WOZ that I've had my hands in that didn't have this switch assembly loose or missing screws and/or plate. The problem is if you tighten it too much, it hangs up the switch.

I can't believe something isn't being done at the factory to rectify this.

Thanks for the edit tip Chad!

I would not use crazy glue. Sometimes more is not better. Crazy glue might be hard to get off at a later date, you might get it on other things, and it might not work as well anyway because it does not give like hot glue. Hot glue has a rubber like consistency, so it absorbs the vibrations of the mech, and it is not all that difficult to remove later without a trace.

I had the same issue. You definitely can over tighten the switch to the point that it does not work. I had to find a happy medium. I am confident in the hot glue method. In fact I only have one of the screws holding the switch on right now, because I was unable to find it and have not had a chance to make it to the hardware store.

I used the same hot glue method for my XMENLE to keep the screws in the center ball lock up posts. One of the up posts would shoot straight at the glass every time the screw would loosen and fall out. A little dab of hot glue cured that as well.
