Two things might have happened
1.) Flakey flash drive. This same thing happened to me updating a friend's Tron Pro. Used another drive, back in business
2.) You might have selected the wrong "file" ...when you update a game and it asks you to select a file, for some reason you can toggle between two file names, even if you just have that one update file on the stick. I have no idea why it allows you to do this...but, it does. If you pick the "other" file, your update will result in a 'brick' like this. I did this once. If you re-do it with the "right" file (the default one that shows up, don't toggle), then it should work fine.
I think that's what I did. This was my first Stern update (such a noob), plus I was using a Mac and a crappy usb. Three strikes.
Anywho, just played my first game. The game seems easier for some reason. I dig the animations, and I really dig the Rinzler 'growl' on disc multiball. I got to SOS and was two shots away from Portal. I've been to Portal twice in the past, so either I'm amazing or the game is easier to finish the modes.
